  1. We booked through them and let them know that we'd be paying for our guests arrivals, but not their return transfers.  Not only did they not arrive to pick up 2 of my guests, but then they never returned to pick any one up to be taken back to the airport!!

They got everyone's return flight information then just didn't show up! My guests sat outside of hotel wondering who was picking them up and then at the last minute just ended up having to grab a cab.  Now I have to explain to them that it was the company's fault and not ours....soooo embarrassing!!!

Also they informed a group of my guests that "it's customary to tip $5 per person"....there was 13 people in shuttle that had already been paid for.  Just awful.

  2. Where on the property did you have your reception?? How many guests did you have?  I keep going back between Villa La Estancia and Villa del Arco for both accomodations and our reception!  I will probably offer/suggest both to my guests.  Any advice?

We are going with the mexican alcatraz which looks a lot like callas and can be sprayed to any color you wish! Our flower were only $501, minus $300 paid by villa la estancia, so $201 out of pocket.

Our wedding is only $795 on the beach in front of Villa La Estancia for a civil non-legal ceremony. Our wedding planner is included in our $795 fee, and she is amazing, her name is Mina Fano. We are also going a reception after with unlimited cocktails and appetizers for only $940. Not a bad deal all together.

DJ's - DJ Morales charges $200/hr. He will set up for the ceremony and then move to the reception after.

Photos- EM Weddings, Gilda Badilo or Manuel Bourgoin would be my top 3 suggestions.

    Good luck with your planning!

  3. El Faro is one of the outdoor settings right?? Can't wait to see pictures!!  Are you just using Gretel and her assistants to do everything or do you also have an outside coordinator??

I just got my dress last weekend and think that a year is going to come up really quickly!

  4. So I'm getting married at Villa La Estancia and the hotel provides a coordinator for free.  I am debating using an outside coordinator, but when I asked she says that most brides do not do this...

Thoughts?? I'm a little nervous to trust the ladies at the hotel do everything since the communication has kind of lagged when I contact them, but I don't know if $3000 is too much if I don't need it!

  5. Where did you end up having your reception??

I highly recommend having your own wedding coordinator in addition to Gretel, as she really is swamped all the time and travels a lot. She also tends to only answer some of the questions you ask. It helps when I list out my questions and number them. I also call when I feel like its been too long since I have gotten a reply.
Overall, they have a reputation of not being that easy to work with (I have heard this from multiple coordinators, my hair and makeup person, and other vendors LOL), but things do get done, so don't dispair!
I've planning on getting married at the Villa Group Resort, April 16th, 2009. Gretel has been great with inital information, now I'm just waiting for the contract, which I hope doesn't take too long. We're having the beach ceremony by Villa Del Palmar, and then the reception either at California Terrace or the terrace at La Perla or El Faro (del Arco). LOL can you tell we're still in the decision mode?

Thanks for the info about Gretel's schedule. Helps to understand what's going on ..on their side of things, so I can be a bit more patient.

I know I'm way behind compared to other brides getting married. But this forum really helps a lot!

Can anyone recommend a good outside wedding coordinator to help?

  6. Why the reception at the golf course?  Did you get a chance to check out some of the reception sites at the hotels??  Its SOOO hard to tell how it looks from the pictures that they sent me.  I really want to take a trip down to check it out first, but I don't know if I will be able to!
