Hi! Okay, so I am not going with a travel agency so I have been making contacts directly with the staff at Riu. Sometimes, TA's are more insistent on booking immediately so they are guaranteed a commission from the resort. Otherwise, they spend time communicating with the Resorts, vendors, etc. and if plans don't work out, TA's loss out on their time. Well that's what my friend who works with a TA said So with all that being said, I think you may have more flex with the resort. In my case, we emailed them last week in December and they wrote back within days with room rates (giving us close to a month until the quote is no longer valid! We actually have until Jan. 25th to be exact!) I would email them yourself and just double-check. That's really a short amount of time considering its a group of you going. The other thing that I did was email the wedding dept. first (Paola Flores is the contact person) and requested my ceremony date and time. They reserved the date with a confirmation number. Then she was the one who referred me to the Booking Dept. (Cesar Cervantes is the contact person) who gave us the group quote. So most definitely make sure the date you are wanting is available before committing to the rooms. Not sure what your TA said about deposits, but the resort wants 10% of the total cost as a deposit (TA might want more of a percentage). In my case, we have 30 of us going so I collected $100.00 from each person and will pay the resort deposit with that. As far as the wedding planning part of it, I will attach the packages. They are NOT specific at all with what types of decor they provide so I emailed them asking more specifics. Once I get a response, I will let you know. I have not stayed at this resort as it's fairly new. It's only been open since May of 2012 so I am hoping it will be awesome! Other resorts can get runned down fairly quickly. I was going to book with Moon Palace Resorts but this resort came out to be way cheaper... and it's brand new! Okay, so check out the attachments and let me know if you hear anything from them. Hi Everyone I guess I am just wanting to start a thread for any Brides that will be having their weddings at the Riu Peninsula in Cancun, Mexico like myself. Unlike the many other resorts that have been around for a while, brides are able to post their experiences, recommendations, etc. BUT since this resort was just recently opened, we have almost no posts to reference to. Errr. So, with that being said, I will periodically post any updates on information I gather as I am planning my wedding with the resort. So please feel free to also share any info you might have that can also help other brides-to-be As of right now, we are waiting for our official contract from the resort. We got a group quote from them last week. I have an email with wedding packages, etc if anyone is interested, email me and I can forward you all the info they have sent me. Thanks, Noel

Hi there, I am also an October bride (Oct. 5th to be exact)! I really can't answer to your post since I have yet to know what it will be like but I thought we can exchange information with one another as we move forward with our weddings I am not sure if you have already made contact with the resort but I have contacts and email addresses to the sales person (for booking BLOCKED rooms) as well as the Wedding Dept. Let me know if you need either. I did email with specific questions on the wedding. For example the decor they provide. They really didn't put much info on the email they sent me with wedding packages So if you have any info on that, would you mind sending it to me?! Once I get a response, I can send you the info too. I am STILL waiting for an official contract so hopefully they will send it quick. Have you already received your contract? If so, how long did it take from the time you initially inquired with them to receive the contract? Sorry, I am probably overwheming you. ha. Okay, happy planning! Noel
