  1. Congrats! I haven't been to Gran Bahia but I did ride past the resort on the way to my resort and it looked massively huge and just beautiful like something out of a magazine couldn't believe it. I got married at the Riu Ocho Rios last year in December, there is alot of helpful info in the Jamaica section of this forum, I think you will be impressed, relieved, and pleased to have found such a great site .

  2. You picked a beautiful venue. I got married there last year in December. The WC's are great and take care of everything. You have nothing to worry about. There is a wealth of information on this website. I was so glad to find this site, if it weren't for this site I wouldn't have found my venue. ROR is a very popular venue in this forum you will definitely have no problems. A search on OOT (Out Of Town) bags will help you get ideas on gift bags for your guests.

  3. I'm so worried. I've been lurking on weather forecast sites and there is a threat of showers on my big day. I'm not familiar w/ weather patterns in Jamaica like whether a day can be a total wash out or if the rain showers are short and sweet. Anyways, what does ROR do to accommodate your wedding if it rains? And also anyone else have a wedding at ROR and have to deal w/ showers or threats of rain? Really worried, disappointed, and freaking out sad.gif(

  4. Congrats and Welcome to the BDW forum. I also agree that finding a country is the hardest part but once you find the country everything will fall into place. The best thing to do right now is to research and "window shop". This website forum is definitely a good place to start. Just look around to see what places catch your eye. Then also consider what you want out of your destination wedding experience and which locations match up with that.

  5. I finally finished them. As promised here are pictures of my DIY flowers. I think they turned out okay. I used blue lilies, mums, and white jasmine and indigo I think they are called hydrangea sprays to pop the colors in the bouquet. For the bouts I my FI wanted a mum instead of the lily so I used those and individual flowers from the sprays. I Hope this helps.

  6. We had been together 1 year and 8 months when he had proposed. We had been dating since March '07, on our first date he joked but was serious that I was going to be his wife one day....fast forward 3 mos in June '07 he took me to a jeweler to get sized for a ring said he just wanted to know my size/had to know my size, I went thru 2 "false alarms" one on my birthday September '07 and another when we went to Barbados March '08 when I just knew he was going to propose but he didn't. We found out we were pregnant 1 1/2 mos after my father passed in August '08 and he told me he was going to propose on that following Christmas 08 but ended up surprising me in November. We will be 2 1/2 mos shy of 3 year anniversary on the day that we are married.

  7. I am in the process of DIY All of my flowers. I believe it is more cost effective. I also worry b/c although I'm creative and have taken on many artistic projects including but not limited to knitting and photoshop. I don't have alot of experience w/ flowers like none but figure how difficult can it be. I haven't got an estimate from anyone online but I've browsed the forum and seen a few ball park figures thrown out incl the one above to know that at this late in my planning process its not going to be within my budget at all. On the other hand, most of my flowers from Michael's did not cost more than $1.59 per stem. I only have two people standing in the ceremony (my FI and his BM and my MOH). I don't intend on incorporating flowers into the ceremony set up and will only use a few sprays in my centerpieces, and I kind of waited 'til the last minute and just don't have the time to place an order so its more practical for me.

I think it all depends on your budget, the look you are trying to achieve, as well as the number of arrangements you will need. As of now I'm browsing DIY flowers in this forum to get some inspiration but I will definitely post pictures of my bouquets and boutonnieres when I finish them all.

  8. Who are you engaged to?

    Randal

Will this be your first marriage?

    yes

Will this be your fiance's first marriage?

    yes

Will you or your fiance want a pre-nuptial agreement?

    nope

Are you going to have a Wedding Shower?

I don't know. My oldest sister and MOH said she had anticipated on doing one 12/4 but since most if not ALL of the ladies even my supposed friends have flaked out on the wedding she just doesn't know or feel confident about doing it anymore...she'll see but doesn't know who to invite.

Will You Have A Bachelor/Bachelorette Party?

I don't know, anything is possible w/ my sisters though lol.

    Who did you tell first?

I told my mother since it happened outside right in front of her house.

    Big or small wedding?

    Small

How many people are you inviting?

It was not alot at all but enough for me to lose count I just invited the ones that we "thought" would attend, boy were we so pleasantly surprised.

How many do you think will attend?

Possibly 15 but even that will take a miracle in regards to one of the possible 15.

    Date to get married?

    December 10, 2009

Any people you will not allow to attend?

Yes, we were firm and mostly all of our family was in agreement in regards to not including him in the nuptials for very obvious reasons that it was for the best and they are what/who they are right now, UNSTABLE.

Song played walking down the aisle?

I'm seriously considering "She's Royal" by Tarrus Riley (I really like the lyrics and the way the song sounds and since we will be in Jamaica after all).

What time will your wedding be?

    4:00 PM

    Where are you getting married?

    Riu Ochos Rios, Jamaica

    Where will reception be?

Most likely Mammee Bay Steakhouse at the Riu

    What food will be served?

I do not know since I can't open the menu on this site yet and didn't get word from or ask Chandlyn

    What flavor cake and frosting?

It was going to be the Traditional/ Free cake but now I don't know as I'm really not feeling that one anymore. I'm hoping I can get a rum cake or a red velvet cake at low cost...hoping/wishing lol.

    What type of cake topper?

I dunno, I think maybe some blue butterflies, and flowers from one of the bouquets (blue tiger lilies)

    What are your Wedding Favors?

I'm struggling to finish my sand bottle favors, we need another beach themed favor I need ideas, oh and I really want to do OOT bags.

    Songs for dancing with parents?

we haven't decided yet and I don't even know that we will be dancing

Are you having an open bar?

Probably not b/c unfortunately there are people in my party who do NOT know how to act when too much alcohol or liquor gets in their system. Don't want the added stress let alone expense.

What is your first dance song?

Probably "Until The End Of Time" or "Waiting In Vain" unless Randal makes a song for us he says he just may surprise me and do so, I hope he does, I think it would be the sweetest and most unique thing.

    Describe your dress?

White strapless gown, corset beaded bodice, small ball gown skirt, w/ organza pick ups and floral appliques w/ beading. It's a DB gown.

    Wedding Colors?

Cornflower blue and indigo. The flowers are close to those 2 colors.

    Describe your bridesmaids dresses?

I am only having one, my MOH and I have allowed her to choose her own dress but I gave her a swatch and she must get it in cornflower blue.

Do you plan on having any children?

Yes, we currently have a beautiful 5 month old daughter, and we want some more : )

What if your ex came running in and tried to stop the wedding?

Damn, he's always been random but me and my sister/MOH would both look at each other then the sky and roll our eyes and say "Aw Lawd"...My younger sis would let out her high pitched hysterical laugh and say "HA! Are you SERIOUS?!" and continue laughing hysterically, my fiance would mug him and say WTF is this, my FFIL would say "I dunno who that boy is but that's the wrong answer, that's the wrong answer!" and then my God Father, my FFIL and the Best Man would quickly catch on and probably all jump him and drag him out. *end scene

What if the groom's mom came running in and tried to stop the wedding?

I doubt it, seems she really likes me accepts me and even if not she's too meek/ soft spoken and easygoing.

  9. Here is Chandlyn's email [email protected].

I have read that the ceremony is very short. And I have only emailed her once, it took her almost 2 weeks later to get back to me. I was expecting as much, since I never received anything at the "one month before mark" of my ceremony nor after browsing this forum to find out that its not uncommon to get a late response and after seeing how many brides contact her, she must be really swamped and inundated w/ tons of emails. I didn't even know phone calls were a definite option/ guaranteed line of communication w/ her. I pretty much browse the resort to find what info I can, DIY what I can, and I don't intend on doing anything private or too many other upgrades so I will just settle for consulting w/ her on anything further when we get there.
