  1. I have four months to go and am starting to get into panic mode so these random questions are just popping up now.  I am just beginning to realize how much I have to do still!

  2. Question for Barcelo brides who have already been married there:  How did your receptions wind down?  Was it graceful and there was a plan to head to another area of the complex or did the Barcelo staff start cleaning up around you so you felt that you needed to get the heck out of dodge?  Also, if you brought your own decorations, did the Barcelo staff take care of putting them together and getting them to you at a later date or did you have to assign friends/family to assist with getting them cleaned up after the reception?  Thanks in advance!

  3. Beautiful!  Love the details on the bodice!

Yes, I purchased a dress I never tried on!! But I just had to have it! I have searched everywhere and since it is part of the Maggie Sottero Fall 2011 line, if I waited until bridal shops received a sample it would be too late to order. I probably tried on like 40 dresses and some that were very similar so I am confident in my decision! Can't wait till December when it comes in! I will make sure to post pics after my first fitting. YAY!!

  4. Kellygrrrl have you looked online to see if they are available there?  Stupid question I know but thought I would ask.  Also, have you been to an Archivers or other scrapbooking store to see if they have them?

I looked all over the scrapbooking section. they have others, but nothing exactly the same. but I think the blue ones from etsy will be a good substitute. thanks again for writing!

  5. Lol.  My fiance occasionally logs on to get some ideas for our wedding so I can't post any photos until after the wedding!  cheesy.gif

Mine is shipping this week and I should be able to try it on next week.  I CAN'T WAIT!!  I forgot to take pictures in it when I made my decision so I am dying to go try it on again and get some photos. :)

  6. Not sure which of the many threads I found this tip, but I ordered online from Bath and Body Works their clearance travel sized antibacterial gel in various tropical scents.  Finally arrived in the mail today and so happy with my purchase!  Great tropical scents and an inexpensive addition to our OOT bags.  Now to only steal ideas from some smart brides for the remainder of our OOT bag components!  rolleyes.gif

  7. Thank you everyone.  I almost started my own thread before stumbling across this one.  This is down a bit on the list of priorities but it is a task that I am actually looking forward to!  We have an event page on FB for our wedding and we are taking song requests on there.  I would like to include a compilation CD in our OOT bags as a reminder of the trip for our guests.  Plus that is a cheap item to add to our OOT bags!

  8. I agree that I find it challenging to stay motivated and energetic about what is supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life.  I have especially lost interest in planning the AHR.  I struggled with that item to begin with (trying to make it cost-effective yet also make our guests feel special and appreciated) and now I have no desire to entertain or host some people who have become nothing short of nasty.  I am trying to find a way to stay positive, focus on the joy and think of only my fiance's and mine happiness.  I am so grateful for this thread because I truly find it comforting not to be alone in this drama and mess.

Can I just say I am so glad that I found this section of the forum. I knew others have dealt with/or were going through what I am dealing with. I like many of you have said from the beginning knew that by having a DW that many of the people we would be inviting would not be able to attend, but I figured that we could do a little BBQ a couple of weeks after we get back. I am truly OK with someone telling me that they can not come due to cost. But I do a problem when you tell me you can not come, then turn around and make me feel like I am terrible person for wanting to have my wedding somewhere other then then the state we live in. We chose destination mainly for cost and also because we had not gone on vacation in sometime.  I was super, super excited about having a DW in Turks and Caicos but after the craziness started ramping up I have lost a little bit of my zing. For us it is my FI family, my FI mood was changing so I knew the family was on his case about something but didn't know what. I was also getting the little hints with comments such as " is this place expensive?" Then last week it finally came out that they would not be coming. Soo like others WE got into it because I was immediately asked with allot of attitude " why did you pick a place so expensive?" and " is it too late to change now?" Now on the defensive I wasn't really sure how to fire back on these allegations with out being super angry and nasty.  I told everyone from the get go we would be paying for his mom to come so please do not worry about her cost, but now I feel like there is this extremely weird vibe between them and me.  They were originally talking to me about it then switched to just talking to him. I guess I should have said from the beginning every since we moved into our house there has been non-stop comments about what I don't have, this isn't good enough, why don't I do this, you paid too much for that so in some ways I should have expected this from them but is still doesn't make me feel any better and my FI really doesn't stand up to them either.  I am at the stage now where I do not want to even do the BBQ afterward, I am just so angry more with myself that I have allowed them to make me feel so bad to the point where I was starting to think maybe I should see if I could move it to a different location.

BTW, so true that many people who don't come are just saying that your wedding isn't nearly as important as _______ (fill in the blank with my trip to crapville or my new dining room table or...well, you know). So, if that's how you feel I really don't want you there then!

Good luck fellow brides...I'll be thinking good thoughts for all of us!

Mdcoug - so sorry about your situation also. I truly sympathize. What I hate is that these families don't seem to care

that they're $hitting on your wedding vibe/mojo! I started to become very deflated and unmotivated to continue planning my wedding with all the negativity.
But somehow you just have to try and look past it all and remind yourself that you're getting married for YOU and no one else.
And while you'd like to have them all be there - the most important people WILL be..and thats you and your fiance.

We're having an 'open house' deal after the wedding too - and I can already tell you there's some people I hope won't come to that either.
Unfortunately you can't pick your family - and you just have to find a way to keep your chin up and find your tougher skin to get through it all.

  9. I think the belt is lovely, however, I think it detracts from the gown.  With the flare at the bottom of the gown, it makes the gown look like it is cut into three pieces and doesn't make it flow as well.  I think the gown is gorgeous as is and doesn't need any extra bling.  Have you thought about bling on the headpiece to add a little extra sparkle?

The colour of the one in the picture is "gold" (yuck!) so I ordered white without even seeing it. I am a bit nervous about that, but they assured me that it would look good in white. The belt comes with the dress but I'm not sure if I'm going to wear it, any opinions?

I like the way it looks with the belt! However, you can't go wrong either way

  10. Oh my gosh! We did our site visit in February and watched a wedding on Coral Beach from afar. Then we got to see their reception set up since the ceremony was still going on. It was great to see in real life to get ideas for our wedding!

Ah thank you. Yup, gotta love Vistaprint. Just noticed your wedding date - so soon!

We are getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace as well, and arrive November 6th. I think I am going to be a "wedding stalker" on the run up to my own wedding, can't wait to view some others, LOL!

  12. These are done so beautifully!  I have ideas of what I want but no clue on how to put it together.  I appreciate the details and how you put it all together to make look like a cohesive and truly thoughtful gift to guests.  Thank you so much as I will be going back to your pictures to help organize my items!

After convincing FI about OOTs and reading what feels like every OOT thread on this forum I finally was able to narrow down my list of what I wanted to put in them.  When I came across the dollar tree totes on here I knew I HAD to have them and of course the Bubba Kegs for all our guests.  As a Canadian bride a cross boarder shopping trip was needed to hunt down the infamous dollar tree totes and I was sure I was out of luck because they were sold out online and I had hear many brides tell me on here that their stores were sold out as well.  Five dollar trees, asking 1 stranger, no lunch and a lot of persistence (thanks Mom!) I was able to track down 36 tote bags!!!!!

ID Cases - was going to do the resealable badge holders with key coils but found these in the $1 bin at target.  I just noticed the personalized insert isn't in this photo, I will post the template for it.

    Bubba Mug 18oz Tumbler  --  Walmart (US)  --  $4.98

    Bubba Mug 32oz Mug  --  Walmart (US)  --  $6.22

I originally planned to do everything in our colours but when I found some great items in the US I decided that bright and tropical colours mixed would work just fine, also that way everyone wouldn't have the same colour bags, mugs etc. and there would be less confusion.

Notebooks - mix of red, yellow, green and blue

ID Cases - Mix of grey, pink, green and blue

Altoids - Red (peppermint) Turquoise (wintermint)

Tums - Mixed Berry, Citrus, Original Mint

Sewing Kits - Pink, Green, Blue

    Blistex - Turquoise and Green

Bubbas - Green, Turquoise and Black

Tote Bags - Red, Yellow, Light Blue, Green, Pink

We will be giving the large Bubba Mugs to our Wedding Party, BM and GM, Parents and ourselves!  We were going to do the whole group in the large ones but they would be a lot harder to pack, the smaller ones will all fit in one suitcase easily and also will be able to be used at home for coffee etc.

I added a few extra bandaids to each First Aid kit that I purchased at Big Lots Bandaid Brand 20 for $1.00!  I like the Johnson and Johnson brand name kits but Dollarama here in Canada has great kits with a lot more pieces, alcohol wipes, gauze roll, tape roll etc that these do not have.  We will be doing up a master first aid kit with other medications, and first aid supplies and I will be putting a small note in every kit that will let our guests know this so they can use anything should they need it.

I will be purchasing plastic test tubes with lids that I will put some dish soap in and place inside every mug so our guests can wash them once we arrive in Punta Cana.

Overview of some of our LOOT when I arrived home from Buffalo!!

    IMG_3218.JPG

I think that is everything, if anyone has any questions let me know!!! I will post images of my tags and my templates in the next post!!!!!!

  13. I have been contemplating that as well, however, I ran across a pic of a recent DW bride who had a brightly colored bouquet and she had small white flowers in her hair.  I thought it looked lovely so that is what I am doing.

Since I am DIYing my hair flower, another option is to have a white flower with a splash of colour in the centre... would that be weird?
