  1. Sungodess, we're having our ceremony at 5pm as well. I wanted it later so the evening could all flow together nicely without breaks in between events. We're having dinner at 8pm, so we will have a cocktail hour at the gazebo after the ceremony where we'll do the cake cutting and get more pictures done, then head to dinner. By having dinner at 8, we should be done around 10 and we will be heading to the Disco at the resort. We're having about 35 people at the wedding, and I didn't want to pay the extra for a private reception, but also, I think it will be a lot of fun to go to the disco with my group. This way too, the dinner is late enough that the older folks like my grandma won't feel so bad calling it a night after the dinner. She's 80, so it would be a lot on her to try and make it the whole night.

  2. Tracy, I'm so sorry to hear about your guests issues with no rooms. I'm have the opposite problem which I'm freaking out about now. We Put deposits down for a particular amount of guests, and now a couple of them have backed out leaving us with extra seats that we may lose our deposits on and our free seat insentive.

It was a gamble to trust these people and I guess we made the wrong choice. Now I suppose we will need to scrape up some more money in our budget! The bigges stress of this whole thing has been coordinating guests, for sure.

  3. We are using Pastor Rick York as well. It was the one thing my mother requested for the whole wedding thing. I'm glad we are though, as he does a more intimate ceremony. He sent us 2 ceremony options and we can tailor them and change them as we like, so I'm looking forward to that. And our ceremony will be in English. We're doing the thing with the judge earlier in the day when we sign the papers, but no one will be there, except our witnesses.

I got the "Wedding Agreement" form when I confirmed my date with Carolina. In all Honesty there wasn't really much to it. It had names, no. of guests, time requested, time of arrival. There wasn't even an place where you typed your name or anything to confirm the agreement. It seemed more like a form where she just had all the basic info. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as it seems like not a lot of people even got it.

hahaha well it's my FI family that lives in Sherbrooke -- so I take no offence to that!! It was very cold when we were there! His sisters actually live on the west island, so I went shopping there at the Mall in Pointe-Claire!! And I love the St. Hubert there haha!
I went to School in Lennoxville outside of Sherbrooke - I remember how cold it got there!
  5. I think the thing to remember about Carolina is that she's a pro! She does up to 3 weddings everyday, and her timelines aren't the same as ours. Things that we think are complicated to figure out, she's dealt with before and will have an easy solution for us i bet. I'm usually so tense and stressed about organizing things, but there's something about this, that I just feel confident it will be great - or it hasn't kicked in yet, which is a very good possibility!

As for not signing paperwork - i think it's all the same kind of story as above. I did fill out a Word document with info on it. I think that is sort of like the contract. i am going to be taking every email correspondence I've made with the resort regarding anything - i.e. time, venue, restaurant, price, etc. with me so in case of any issues.

  6. Hi Ladies,

I've been kind of MIA for a while. I've lost my "groove" when it comes to this wedding planning...I can't imagine how people spend so much time planning a more "complicated" wedding. And I love planning things too! But I'm really struggling with this one for some reason. I keep telling my FI that I can't wait for it to be April 22nd - the day after our wedding!

Anyhow, I'm back on the planning train since there really isn't much of an option! I'm not sure if it was mentioned here but Fiesta Hotels has a new wedding website:

    Sceneries - Palladium Weddings

It's got most of the basic info we've all asked each other in one spot and the pictures of the ceremony locations - the new gazebo is so beautiful!!!

So happy planning all, you guys keep me motivated!

  7. Oh Danielle, hang in there! Weddings can get so complicated, and it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's got to be difficult hearing that people who said they were coming aren't - I know it's a fear of mine. Try and remember that in the end what really matters is the 2 of you and making sure you guys enjoy your wedding and doing what you want for that day/week. My Fiancé and I started off the process fighting a lot about all the little stuff, even though we said the reason we were having a DW was so we wouldn't hate each other when we tied the knot. We both had to step back and evaluate the whole thing. So I am trying not to let the little things bug me, but it's hard! It's your one day and you want it to be special!

With regards to the AHR, I have no idea what's happening for us. My future in-laws want to host something for us, but they haven't really planned anything yet, and being a planner - it's annoying! They tossed around the idea of a BBQ but then said something about a "fancy thing" at Luxe heritage hotel. I know they're paying for it and I am greatful (although we didn't want any reception at home), but it's our wedding! So We are having them over for dinner this weekend so we can nail them down on something. We're hoping for a fun and casual Backyard BBQ at their home for family and friends that can't make the trip. It's much more "us" than a fancy hotel thing. Give me a hamburger and a beer keg anyday!

We just sent our invites out with a RSVP date of February 1st. I think the invite was more of a technicality (and i wanted to make something pretty!). I think we pretty much have the number of guests already booked. 33 booked after the STD went out. I imagine we will have some stragglers though. What we did which has helped is do our RSVPs through our wedding website. People seem to find that easier. I was frustrated giving such a late RSVP date, but I think some people find it hard to commit to something like this so far in advance, but it is frustrating for sure!

Do any of you ladies already have people booked as well, or is the RSVP the first attempt?
  9. Dawn, I didn't go to Moose Creek, but I have a few friends who did. A couple of them went to Alliance there, and bought their dresses there. One had a decent experience and the other not so much. The one who didn't only bought her dress there because it was much cheaper than at other stores, and alterations were included, however, she was not very happy with the alterations (She had to have a lot done to the dress). The friend who had an okay experience told me she thinks it was because she spoke french...I guess she was taken care of before some other ladies who were there before her... This place I hear is great on price though; they both got their dresses a couple hundred dollars less there. And although neither of them were crazy about the service, they both had beautiful dresses - they just had to work a little harder with the staff to get them.

I debated getting my dress there since the alterations are included in the price, but ended up going to Sinders in Carleton Place, since we travel out there to see FH's family frequently.

  10. I got a confirmed time for our ceremony of 5pm, but Carolina didn't want to give it to me in the beginning. There are 2 other weddings going on the same day as me. We are being married by the judge at 1:30 (subject to change as per Carolina), and having our ceremony with Pastor Rick at 5pm. I told Carolina that I needed to know the time of the ceremony so Pastor Rick could schedule to be there, so she gave it to me.

I think she's more aprehensive to give times for the ceremony when she's relying on the judge to be there, but it also helped that we wanted to be married later in the evening than most want. We were also able to confirm a time for La Uva terrace, but once again it's because we want to eat later than most (8pm).

  11. I emailed Carolina today asking about the new colour sashes and she actually emailed me back within a few minutes! They now have these colours:

    Orange

    Gold

    Emerald Green

    Lime Green

    Fuscia

    Blue

I'm curious to know what the blue looks like. if it's even remotely close to turquoise, i would be stoked! I think though no matter what, I will just pick one of the colours they offer, it just seems so much easier that way than me carting them down. I already have 40 bubba kegs, and like someone else said - those things are huge!

i'm still not sure if we're going to bring and decor stuffs. i think when I get closer to the time, if i have some time to think about it i might round up some things to accent the decor already there, but I really don't want to have to lug a lot of stuff around with me.

We're doing the sand ceremony as well. I keep meaning to go to Michael's to get the sand, since they have it in my wedding colours (turquoise and aubergine). I want to use a picture frame though instead of the vases, so I'm still looking into that.

Isy Beau - did you change your colours or did they add a chair sash colour? I can't quite remember what your colours were...

As for the transfers for the mugs - they aren't any type of spray thing. They work just like stickers. They're made of a waterproof vinal and are pre-cut (the ones from Etsy). all you do is stick them on. I'm ordering mine this week, so when I get them I will show you guys what they look like on the mugs.
  13. I'm so excited because i finally got Carolina to confirm on times for our wedding day! We had known all along that we would have the judge at 1pm but since we are having our real ceremony after with a minister, i asked if she could give us a better idea of time since we need to let him know. So she confirmed 5pm for us, which is perfect for us, as we wanted a late dinner so we could role into dancing without a lull in between. She then confirmed our dinner at 8pm at the terrace on La Uva. very excited to have some things nailed down!

shankd - did you find any BM dresses?

  14. ShankD

We are flying out on the 17th as well, but a different airline I guess! it would have been so much easier for us if we could have gotten out from ottawa, but we have guests flying from TO as well, so we'll have company (My family is actually from Oshawa).

I am making FI do the same thing, except we will have shirts. He was not happy about it! So i told him to wear a hoodie, and he can zip it up when it's not needed! I guess they think we're crazy!

Unfortunately, I don't hve any pictures in the dress. My mom took photos on her phone, but she deleted them somehow...I think the Caprice is easier for most people to pull off than the Reese, because the detailing isn't quite the same in the front. But of course, I'm partial!!
  17. I fell in love with Reese the first time I saw it in a magazine. I wanted to try it on, but the salons I went to didn't have it. But in Maggie's new line this year, they had the "new" version of Reese. It's called Caprice, and I loved it the moment I tried it on! I ordered it and should get in January. I'm so happy with my choice.

    Caprice - by Maggie Sottero

The picture doesn't do it justice because of the way the model is standing. It flows in a slim a-line shape beautifully.

And for the short ladies, the Caprice may work better because the front does not have the samke detailing that the Reese has that might cut you off. I'm 5"4 and I think it suits my height quite well.

  18. I love them both! It sounds like we're going for the same thing. I also have an asymmetrical short bob, and i've ordered my birdcage veil from Velvetowl on Etsy.com (the maker of the first piece you have there).

Mine has been custom made, and she's been great to work with. Here's a link to what it looks like, without the veil. The veil is detachable and is a small one that will brush just over one eye. Mine's in the mail - I can't wait to receive it!!

I love the birdcage for short hair lengths. It's so glam!
