Hi all, I have good news and bad news about our wedding at the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda which was to take place yesterday Sunday May 3rd. The bad news is we had to cancel the wedding due to the fact that when we flew down there early last week Monday April 27th we realized the swine flu craze was scaring our guests who were supposed to fly down for the wedding. With a heavy heart we canceled it last Monday and Blue Bay was amazing in refunding our guests and our wedding package. My fiance and I decided to stay for the week and the good news is I cannot express enough how WONDERFUL the resort is. We kept walking around looking at the places where our 100 plus guests would have been playing and looking at the locations we picked for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception realizing how perfect our wedding day would have been. That said- I wanted to write this because even though we are heartbroken about not getting married there, we would wholeheartedly recommend the resort for anyone's wedding day. Hey ladies! I'm getting married at the BBGE May 3 2009 and had a few questions. -Are any of you having a band? I can't decide between a band or a DJ. -Also, where will you have your reception? Right now we have about 85 people coming so I've gone with the Affair to Remember package with a private reception in the Steakhouse. -Where will you have your rehearsal dinner? I'm hoping to do an outdoor buffet style rehearsal dinner but I'm worried about the mosquitoes in the evening. Another bride who had her reception outside said the mosquitoes at sunset are problematic. Anyway- would love to share my experiences as well. Some of my wedding guests are getting nervous about all the news in Mexico and a few people aren't coming just for this reason! It's such bad timing but I've heard it's primarily in the news now that Spring Break is coming up. And we've had the same issue with signing a contract for one 'discounted' room rate and then guests discovering the online rate is cheaper which is rather embarrassing. I've just told people to book whichever way is cheaper! Thanks! Heather
