  1. We had our rehearsal dinner at Mammee Bay Steakhouse. I just emailed Chandlyn in advance to set aside an area for 30 people, and they did it with no problems. I wouldn't recommend St. Ann's because the guests get to eat there all the time. It is hard to get reservations at Mammee Bay, and the food is good, so I would suggest having it there.

I had a welcome mixer at the Dunn's River Bar. I had Chandlyn set reserve some tables, we put a banner up and just partied in a corner of the bar area. (And I had 94 guests).

  2. Hey Ladies,

I have a dilemma. I am leaving next Wednesday for ROR. We're flying on UsAir and I am dead set against packing my gown. I want to bring it on the plane, but we're not flying first class and I don't know if the flight attendant will be willing to hang it up somewhere. I contacted customer service at USAir and they gave me their line "you can bring it on the plane as long as it fits in the overhead cabin or slides under your seat." Has anyone figured out what they're going to do about their dress? And for those of you that have already been, what did you do? Does ROR have somewhere on the Resort where it can get pressed?

  3. Okay, notarized copies of birth certificates and passports must be received by Chandlyn 30 days before the wedding. I mailed off the paperwork on June 23 and it has been 11 days and she still hasn't received it. I'm getting frantic. It was supposed to reach her on July 3rd to be 30 days in advance. Does anyone know if they are that strict about the 30 days? Does it usually take that long for mail to reach Jamaica?

  4. Oh, and ROR seems to be getting very popular. There are hardly any dates available until you get to August 08. I think that is because they only have 2 or 3 weddings at ROR a day. I had to change my date a few times just to get a date at ROR. I know that most of the dates are available at RIU Negril.

And if you request a date and change your mind about it, they will not release the date for a long time unless you email them to cancel the request. I did that (had them cancel the requests) because I realized that I was holding like 3 different dates (which was keeping others from booking them).

  5. I was originally having my wedding at RIU Negril. I looked into both the Club Hotel and Tropical Bay. A friend of mine went to Negril ClubHotel in August 07 and had a great time. She sent me pictures and it seemed really nice. But - when I got on this forum, I wondered why everyone was getting married at ROR. So, when I compared the two:

ROR was larger, newer and a lot more luxurious. Looks like a palace. Got better reviews on Travel Advisor. Wedding locations were gorgeous -nicer than Negril's choice to me. Seems to be cheaper. I also heard a few times that the WC is hard to get in contact with at Negril and they don't keep their word on a lot of things, unlike ROR. Also, they don't offer the Free Wedding Package. I have a 4 year old son and more kids will be going around his age. I think either resort would be fine for kids - they are all kid friendly. I heard Tropical Bay was old and not so nice. Club Hotel Negril is newer, but not as nice as ROR.

  6. Thanks for the information! This is the best forum ever. I think I figured the ticker out! I was originally a RIU Negril bride, but when I saw so many brides getting married at ROR, I had to wonder why. So, I checked it out, seemed much larger and luxurious, and had to change my plans.

  7. Hello, my name is Asha. We are getting married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on August 2, 2008. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. Question, does anyone know how to put the timeline on the bottom of a post or in profile that displays how many months and days the wedding is away? I can't figure it out.
