Wedding Planning - Where On Earth Do I Start?

Hey everyone, my name is Jas. I've just recently been engaged and am trying to organize some wedding ideas problem is, I have no idea where to start.

I was hoping to get some information from anyone that would have some, all I know right now is that the wedding will be 2016 in the summer. I live in Alberta, Canada (the coldest place on earth I think) :P

My fiancé and I had decided on Mexico, I've been researching and it seems that Cancun Or Playa Del Carmen would be the best from the reviews. He and I have never been to Mexico and no one in my family has ever planned a destination wedding so this all seems like a very daunting task at the moment.

We'd need to have 2 separate ceremonies - a traditional Sikh ceremony and a traditional Christian ceremony - and then of course the reception and what have you.

If there's anyone that has any pointers, tips, websites or anything that would help I'd be so appreciative!!

Thanks all for reading!

- Jas

Canadian brides represent! Good luck with your planning, we’re doing two ceremonies too (Catholic and Hindu).

I’ve been to Playa del Carmen once before and it was honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen on earth!

I am planning my own wedding for Jan 2015 at the Gran Porto Real in Playa Del Carmen... And Also have been to a wedding 2 years ago in the Riveria Maya area.. It is absolutely beautiful there... She was married at the Barcelo Tropical Resort and the wedding was beautiful and we had a fantastic time!

My bit of advice would be to start the planning early... Our wedding isn't until 01/2015 and I've got the resort, photographer, videographer, and DJ all booked!  It's NEVER too early!!

Also, don't be afraid to look up outside vendors for services--but DO check with your resort and ask what the vendor fee is for bringing outside services... Our resort is 350.00 per vendor... With that said, some of the outside vendors WILL be worth it!! Just check all the prices and compare the services to what is offered at your resort... For example... We have booked outside vendors for ALL (photographer/videographer and DJ)... First I booked my photographer simply because I fell in LOVE with his photography style... And yes, I am paying more than the resort photograher... BUT the pictures are worth it!!! Also, I asked him if he preferred a videographer and he did have one that he did work with and because they know each other they go in as one company saving me a $350 vendor fee!!

Ask your vendors for referrals!! They work a LOT of weddings and know who you should look into and who you should stay away from!!

Hope this helps!!!

Good Luck with the wedding!!!

Hi Jas, Congratulations!

In terms of resort, Moon Palace (Cancun) is quite popular with Indian Weddings as it is All Inclusive and family friendly too. http://www.moonpalacecancun.com/

As well as Mexico, other popular destinations are Hawaii & Fijji.

As for Indian destination wedding cinematography, please feel free to check out: www.filmartpictures.com

Best wishes for the planning
