Hello Brides!

We are getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace in July and we are deciding between Secrets Silversands, El Dorado Royale, or Excellence Riviera for our honeymoon after the Barcelo. Can anyone provide some insight if you have been to any of these resorts?

Thanks!

I have been to the El Dorado Royale, and it is AMAZING.  Hands down the best food and service I have EVER had at an all inclusive.  There are tons of restaurants to choose from, you can eat somewhere different almost every night.  There is also a Martini bar!  All of the indoor restaurants are air conditioned too, which is awesome.  The service everywhere at the resort is wonderful.  The pools are wonderful and many rooms have swim-up suites.  The resort offers bike tours, or bikes that you can take out and ride around the resort.  The resort is quite long, so there's lots of area to bike or walk.  There is a big green house behind the resort that you can bike to also.  EDR grows many of it's own vegetables and herbs right on site!  The only downside is that the ocean is a bit rocky, and there are huge sand bags in the ocean.  The sand bags are placed to help the environment. (I have noticed these sand bags at other resorts in the Riviera Maya also)  There are areas that are fine for swimming, but not as nice as the beach in Playacar/Playa Del Carmen, or Punta Cana, for example.  I guess it all depends on what you are used to.  If you are not a "swim in the ocean" type of person it doesn't matter to you!  If you really want to splurge, book a room in the Casitas - so amazing, much more private and super romantic!

My husband and I went to the El Dorado Maroma for our honeymoon (a sister resort) and we were given a few perks (for free) for our HM.  We had a wonderful breakfast in bed, dinner on the beach, discount at the spa.  I think there were other perks, but I honestly can't remember.  We felt very spoiled at the EDM, the most romantic honeymoon we could have asked for!  Wish I could go back to either resort!

We were married at the Now Sapphire, just down the beach from the Excellence.  I walked by the resort on the beach and it looked amazing.  The beach there is very nice sand.  Lots of lounge chairs!

Hope I was of some help!  I don't think you can go wrong with any of those three resorts!

I'm super biased for EDR - we are going back for our 3rd stay this June. I'll echo everything Dina said. They do have a honeymoon package that includes 2 for 1 massages, deluxe breakfast in bed (they have 24 hour room service included too), candle light dinner on the beach, and a romantic suite decoration.

I don't know anything about the other two resorts. All I can say is we keep going back to EDR because it's the best we've found.

feel free to DM me with any questions!

we stayed for 10 days for our wedding-moon, 5 nights for our 1st anniversary, and we're going back for 5 more nights for my birthday. all within about 19 months... so yes, we LOVE it there.

seriously romantic, fantastic for couples, amazing food, service is out of this world. like Dina said, the beach isn't the best, but that's honestly the only negative.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
