  1. Hi Ladies, I was wondering if any of you are doing your Doli in Mexico, and how are you doing it? Are you booking any special area for it, or just doing it in one of the rooms?
  2. Hi Ladies! My wedding is in about 5 weeks at the Moon Palace as well. We booked Blue Petal Destination Weddings in Vancouver to help us with the preparations. The company was perfect for our needs, because they assigned us to a travel agent who got us a great rate and took care of all the bookings (over 160 people!!) and they also assigned us to a wedding planner who has been communicating with the MP resort planner to arrange all the details for us. In terms of the baba ji, I heard the Mexico City people were really reliable etc and know a few people who have booked them, but when we tried to book them we couldn't get a hold of them (I think they went to India or something). We ended up booking someone we know from Vancouver, and are flying down the Granthi, Kirtan person and tabla player. The trio will be bringing all their own supplies and also offered to bring the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, but we decided to borrow the SGGS from the Mexico people instead (They keep it in Cancun at some yoga center). As for ramaals, etc, - I am taking my own for all the men. Just like one of the other brides above, I am also getting the daily free events (free food, drinks, tables, chairs, napkins cutlery) - basically the resort agreed to do a private event for us each day, for a max of 3 hours. I think they give this to anyone who has a combined booking for 75 room nights or something like that. The free events are great but dont include any decor, music, etc so we have to rent all that - and their rental rates are very expensive, and so are things like flowers, henna, etc. The resort credits are definitely helpful though so that part is good Hope that helps!
  3. Hi Sikh brides! I am also planning my wedding in the Mayan Rivera in 2013. The baba Ji from Mexico City's name is Arjan Singh, from the Sikh Center of Mexico - just google him and you will find his contact info. Have any of you found a good wedding planner in Mexico that you are currently working with? Also as for resorts, I know a few people have recommended Dreams, Secrets and the Moon Palace, and the Riu Palace as well. I haven't picked my resort yet but I want to find something that's got a few nice suites so my family can be comfortable.
  4. Thanks everyone for the replies! We have narrowed down the location to the Mayan Riviera, and will most likely be staying at the Azul Fives or the Iberostar Lindo. Has anyone ever stayed at the Iberostar hotels? I haven't heard much about them, but they look like beautiful hotels. Also, we will need to rent a few things for the wedding - gazebo, decorations, tent, etc. Do most brides just rent from the hotels, or do they find outside vendors? I think outside vendors will be less expensive, but Im not sure who would be a trustworthy vendor with good materials, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? thanks! S.
  5. Hi Brides (and grooms)! My hubby-to-be and I are really excited about doing a destination wedding and would love some advice and input from all of you. We haven't narrowed down the location yet but so far it seems like Mexico and Jamaica seem to be the best options. We want to go somewhere where this is an Indian community, so we can rent some services locally, as opposed to flying everything down there. The biggest obstacle is getting the Sikh Holy Book (Guru Granth Sahib) - we would prefer to borrow that form someone locally in the Caribbean. Does anyone know if there is a Gurdwara (or someone with a Guru Granth Sahib at home) in Jamaica? Or Mayan Riviera/Los Cabos? Thanks! Sandy
