  1. Hi Sharon99- Sorry I didn't reply sooner- I actually wore a fake in my hair (it was borrowed and something I had already planned on)- but all my bridesmaids had real flowers and they were great the whole night! We booked Juan for 5 hours... he did a fantastic job! Hope all is well! Best wishes!
  2. Review of our wedding: I'm sorry I didn't post this earlier- but things have been quite crazy since we got back! We got married on 1/29/2011... and wish we could rewind back to that day!!! We arrived on Wednesday before the Saturday ceremony- and had 55 people join us. A majority of our guests were there Thursday through Monday, some stayed for an entire week. Many tried to change their flights because they were having so much fun! The resort: Amazing. Top notch. We stayed in the Excellence Club Rooftop pool suite.... and it was great! It was a little chilly to really enjoy the pool- but we did hang out on the rooftop a few times and the view was beautiful! The "excellence club" was a nice perk... although our guests were perfectly happy without the "club" status and thought the overall service was fantastic anyways. We really enjoyed coffee service every morning- as well as late night room service after a night of drinking (came in handy after the reception). The concierge was so nice and made sure that everything was perfect for the whole week of our stay. The resort is very secure and we felt very safe in terms of walking the beach and walking/jogging the property just outside the gates (there is a nice walking/jogging path that goes towards the golf course.... great for runners!) The wedding: Again- Amazing. We had a beach wedding and wouldn't have done it any other way. We saw another couple doing a ceremony in the Gazebo and it looked spectacular- but we really wanted the beach- so we stuck with the plan. It wasn't too windy and it really turned out nice. We had the guitarist play during the ceremony- he did such a nice job and it really added a nice touch. Our cocktail hour was held at the x-lounge- we only made it to the last 15 min or so because of pictures- but everyone said it was a lot of fun. The food and cocktails served there were great! Our reception was at the Event Terrace- beautiful. Again- it was a little chilly- but after the music started- everyone was sweating on the dance floor!! Our DJ (DJ Mannia) was great and played all our songs we requested and we didn't have a problem with music... we extended the reception by an hour because it was so fun! Our photographer was Juan Navarro and he also did a great job.... our pictures are so beautiful- he is a very talented photographer! Yamina- what an amazing person!! She is on top of everything and will go out of her way to make your wedding the best you could imagine. I can't explain in words how wonderful she made everything. The food: Very good. We are foodies... and I have to say... the food here was better than most other luxury all-inclusive resorts. We really enjoyed the food for our wedding as well as many of the restaurant food. Our favorite restaurant was Chez Isabelle- definitely make a point to go there. Wasn't too fond of the mexican restaurant.. but the Lobster House and the asian restaurant were really good. Our wedding cake was SO good! In fact- we had some left over because many of our guests were full from the dessert already- so we had them package it for us and they would bring it to us throughout the rest of the week when we asked for it! The spa: My bridesmaids and I all had our hair and makeup done at the spa and they did a really nice job. Lots of pictures to choose from- no one was unhappy with the results- everyone looked great! They picked fresh flowers for us to put in our hair- added a nice touch to the pictures! We had a few spa treatments that were very nice- kinda pricey- but very relaxing and worth every penny! The beach: Beautiful! The sand was racked every morning and the water was perfect... a little chilly... but refreshing. The pools: My only complaint. Most of the pools were pretty cold. It was the end of January- so the weather was in the upper 70's... making it a little cool to swim in an unheated pool. I didn't have a problem with it- but I did have some complaints from guests. Unfortunately- you won't find too many resorts in Mexico that will have multiple heated pools. That didn't stop anyone from swimming in the pool with the bar... there were still plenty of people enjoying the water- just took a little courage Overall: We would recommend a destination wedding to everyone- it's the way to go. We had so much fun and all of our guests said it was the best wedding they have ever attended. The resort was fabulous- can't wait to go for our anniversary! A few recommendations- Make an overall "agenda" but don't get upset if you don't stick to it... and make sure your guests realize this is a vacation... not every moment needs to be planned! If you are going in winter/early spring- plan on it being a little chilly at night. I gave all the female guests pashminas... they loved them and used them on the chilly nights! Don't put too much in the gift bags... I put advil, gatorade packets, chapstick, sunblock, pashmina, sun visor, and an itinerary in each bag... my guests used all of it- but probably could have done without the gatorade packets. If you have any questions- feel free to ask! You will all have a wonderful wedding!!! Enjoy
  3. You can see a few of our pics on Juan Navarro's blog: http://www.juanphotos.com/blog/?p=9245 There is a picture of the event terrace setup in that group of pictures....
  4. Hi everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that our wedding was AMAZING!!! We were married on January 29th on the beach at Excellence Playa Mujeres and it was absolutely fabulous! We had 55 people total and everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Yamina is great and is there to help you with everything from the minute you arrive at the resort. I was a little worried about the wind and having the ceremony on the beach, but it worked out great and I wouldn't have changed a thing. We had our reception on the Event Terrace, and despite being a little chilly for the beginning of the dinner, it was beautiful and everyone was sweating on the dance floor after the music started. Anyways- I have a lot to catch up on now that we are back and will post a larger review later, but if you have any questions at all, please email me! I am happy to help- it was such a great wedding and you will all have a beautiful wedding at this resort!! Kristin kdrunner79@gmail.com
  5. Did anyone have problems with DJ Mannia? It sounds like he only will take a few of our song choices... did anyone have a problem having them play the songs you want played?
  6. I leave in 5 days for my wedding!!! We are getting married next Saturday- lets hope it doesn't rain!!! Any last minute things I should know about the resort or reminders on anything I should remember to bring? Does anyone know if some of the pools are heated?
  7. Hi Ladies! We are getting married on January 29th 2011... it's coming up so fast!!! We have about 50 guests.... yay! Question- what did you all do for music during the ceremony? What decorations did you do for the ceremony and reception? Should I bring them or count on just doing flowers they provide? Also- any suggestions on items for the OOT bags? Thanks for all of your help!!!
  8. Hello! I have been reading this blog since I booked my wedding at EPM back in February, but haven't posted much. Everyone has helped so much- thought I'd post about my experience on my site visit. We will be getting married there in January. My fiance and I went to Mexico (playa del carmen) for a last minute trip ( got a great deal at a little resort in playa) and had the opportunity to go up to EPM for a site visit one day this past week. I met with Yamina, saw the property, and had dinner at one of the restaurants. Yamina was the nicest person- so informative and really took time to show me everything... from an example of every room type available to every pool, bar, and restaurant on the property. The property is gorgeous!! She was so nice and really explained everything will happen between now and the wedding. The food and wine was great- we had dinner at the French restaurant and were very impressed with both the quality of the food and wine and the service. After seeing the gazebo- we are torn between the gazebo and the beach... it will be a hard decision.... anyone have suggestions one way or another?? Something to keep in mind... it's quite a drive from the airport and from Cancun. We really didn't want to be that close to Cancun- but after hearing from my guests- some will be staying off property and thought it wouldn't be a problem to get to the resort from Cancun hotels. However- it seems that it may be a pretty expensive (and long) cab ride from Cancun. Do any of you have guests staying off property? How do you explain that it will cost a lot of money to bring them on to the property for events? I feel bad asking them to pay for the $100 night pass and the $70 event pass- but we have a rehearsal/welcome dinner planned for Friday and the ceremony on Saturday... that makes for a lot of additional expense for us if we pay for those events for those staying off property. Anyway- thought I'd share my experience. If you have any suggestions about the off site guests- let me know! Thanks!!
  9. Hi- I have encountered a big problem with my travel agent (Destinationweddings.com). My guests have found their room and airfare much cheaper (>$200pp) on online sites such as expedia, priceline, and cheapcaribbean, and the travel agent service is not matching the price. Therefore- it has been extremely difficult to fill our room block that we placed a deposit on. Since the beginning of our travel plans- they have been extremely unhelpful and I have had to change specialists once and probably now a second time. They made many mistakes with our contract and with overcharging our deposit- I should have just gone with someone else to begin with. But- that being said- I am thinking of finding a different company after the room block is full- if I can fill it. Does anyone have suggestions on how to work with destinationweddings.com, similar issues, or any ideas on different agents??? Â Thanks so much for your help!!!
