  1. I could really use some advice from you gals! I feel like the situation is long and complicated, so I'm going to try to make this as succinct as I can! FI and I want to do an elopement/honeymoon. Basically just go away and get married, then come home and have a nice reception with friends & family. The one thing that is a complication are my parents. I do want my dad to be there at our wedding because it would mean the world to me. He basically said he would go wherever we were. FI is ok with this. The thing is, I don't have a good relationship with my mom. She has not been supportive of my relationship since day one, and is basically just not good for me. But, she and my dad are still married. I cannot justify "inviting" my dad and not inviting her, though I really don't want her there. The only way I can see getting around this is just to elope with my FI, with dad not there, but that would break my heart. Any tips? A second thought I had was to do a small ceremony at home either before or after our trip to have my dad there...but I don't want it to seem hokey. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for that tip. I think I'm looking for a combination of relaxing, beautiful, with options for exploring if we wanted to. Between Jamaica, St. Thomas, St. Lucia & all the others I can't for the life of me pick on that would be best to get married on! So, that's where the ideal cruise itinerary comes in. We're open to cruise lines right now. So far Carnival and Princess have the best rates. Do you have any bad things to say about Princess?
  3. Hi! So in a nutshell, FI and I are considering a Caribbean cruise with a shoreside wedding. We're looking at 7 days or so, trying to keep all costs low. Most likely it will be just the 2 of us...perhaps maybe 2-4 guests. I've heard all sorts of wonderful things about all these different islands and I'm so lost!! Here's some thoughts I've gathered: 1) I'm not heavily leaning to the Western Caribbean. Though Jamaica sounds lovely, I'm not too keen on Mexico. Any thoughts? 2) Southern Caribbean sounds like the nicest islands, though very port-intensive on a 7 day cruise. Is it hard with 7 ports in 7 days? 3) Eastern Caribbean sounds nice too...would love to see the USVI. Like I said, I'm kind of lost. Anyone who's been to these areas and can shed some much-needed light would be great! And lastly...what time of year is best to go? I know hurricane season is in the fall. Our original plans were for May of this year, but seeing as how that's only 2 months away, I'm not sure it can be done. It seems pretty simple because we don't have tons of guests coming, but I don't know if perhaps June or July would be better? Thanks ladies!
  4. Hey everybody. Here's the brief lowdown: Name: Stacey Wedding date: Perhaps May 2009, perhaps later in the fall Location: Caribbean cruise I'm so thankful to be here and read all about everyone's stories & advice. A few weeks ago I had a bit of a meltdown and before even introducing myself posted a temper tantrum that was a bit embarrassing Originally, our plans were to take a Med cruise and get married in Greece. Due to a bunch of circumstances, mostly financial, we're dialing it down and considering a cruise to the Caribbean with a stop to get married. What part of the Caribbean I have noooo idea yet, so any advice would be wonderful. I've done a bit of research between east/west/south...but personal tales or tips would be great! We're hoping for Greece in a year to renew our vows! Thanks for having me & look forward to "meeting" you! Stace
