Of course Sunquest says they don't price match.. but they said they would reduce our rate by $100/person. I'm getting married at the Riu Palace Mexico in about a month, and the EXACT same situation happened with me. Sunquest reduced our rates by $100 however Expedia had the same kind of discount - a $600-$700 difference. Sunquest could not reduce our rate. A few of our guests on the group rate wanted to cancel and re-book with Expedia. My travel agent went over the benefits of securing the trip with the group rate, but im sure it was all just smoke comin outta her a$$...lol. Thats unfortunately the way it goes with booking so far in advance, you are taking a chance, but with a wedding, its better to be safe than sorry.
  2. im sure it varies btwn countries and states, but i know that for me in Ontario Canada, i just have to get my certificate translated by a certified translator and then im good to go P.S. How was your wedding!!?! I need a review and pictures! Congrats again.
  3. We chose the Riu Palace Mexico. I fell in love with the gazebo onsite and i knew that was where i wanted to be married. Plus, i have a few friends who have stayed at the resort and all have recommended it and have said this resort is a fabulous choice.
  4. oh i totally didnt mean that it sounded selfish! I think its a lovely idea. But i just decided that i want the one day thats it. I dont want to have to organize anything else hahaha.
  5. I'm not having a welcome dinner for 2 reasons - 1) i have some guests coming on different days of the week, some just the day before the wedding... 2) i dont want this trip to be all about me. i want my guests to treat it like their own vacation, and ask that just the day of the wedding they spend it with us. I want my own peace and quiet time too! lol
  6. im doing my own hair and makeup. Well a few friends might help out with the hair if i need it, but as for makeup - im keeping it beachy and bronzey. The key thing to remember is not to use SPF or foundation with SPF in it - the titanium dioxide in the makeup will give off a white cast with the camera flash. Be aware also that mineral makeup contains titanium doxides as well.
  7. Im not 100% sure about the contract, but other brides getting married there have mentioned one.....hmm....maybe just send them an email asking if a contract will be sent to you?? I might do the same thing!
  8. Yeah i got that email too. I sent a few emails with some questions, and they assured me each time that the wedding coordinator will take care of everything, and they will contact me for more details within 2 months before the ceremony. I still havent received any emails about my contract tho - apparently 6 mths before they send you a contract? im at 6 mths & 1 week till my day.....i wonder if i will be getting anything soon....i dont want to harass them lol!

I must say its very difficult to get in touch and hard to plan if no knowone will give you a straight answer. Any suggestions, thoughts.......experiences. Thanks You have to go onto Wedding Packages by Destination. Honeymoon Holidays. Weddings by Riu and log in your reference number to complete your confirmation. Have you done this already? The wedding coordinator got back to me the same day to confirm my date with the local judge.
  10. newbie here, but came across this post. How is everyone coming along with their planning? For those of you getting married at the Riu Palace in Playa, which restaurant are you planning to chose for your dinner reception? There are 2 choices - the Brazilian restaurant (called La Bodega) and El Patio. Im leaning more toward La Bodega because its a full sit down, a little more formal - although im not too keen on the plaid seating.......El Patio - ive heard that only the main course is served, everything else is buffet....
  11. Hi everyone, thought id introduce myself. Im getting married at the Riu Palace Mexico in PDC this coming October. So far everything seems to be going rather smoothly. We have 12 ppl booked so far, and plenty more to book (hopefully!) Are there any other Riu PDC brides around?
