Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas - Married in May 2011

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Brides to be!

I planned my own wedding in Cabo San Lucas at the Riu Palace...And during my planning stages, I struggled to find threads that were informative about previous experiences and opinions. Unfortunately, i had a hard time with the wedding planner through the resort.. but dont give up. Overall my wedding (and overall experience)  was amazing. We had about 50 guests fly there and the resort picked us right up from the airport.

Okay, let me start from the beginning... I had never been to Cabo, nevermind Riu Palace. If you've noticed.. it's really hard to find pictures of the event spaces they offer for weddings. I chose to get married on the beach itself, because that was our whole purpose. My hard decision was where to have our reception. At first i was set on having it outside near the pool (norte or south).. But eventually decided on Mar de Cotez.. which i believe is the steakhouse. We eneded up reserving privately the early dining - but i dont think we even needed to do that. You can save money by just asking for early dining when you first get there.. or if you have better luck with the resort coordinator, ask her in the planning process.

Because the environment is so great.. and the resort as a whole is clean and helpful.. i'm sure your wedding will go as planned. But, dont count on all your planned details be executed correctly. There were so many small things that i took time and money to plan out that never were executed by the coordinator. I gave her specific flutes for me and my fiance to use for our dinner toast.. (never saw them.. and never got them back......asked SEVERAL TIMES and no responses, phone calls, emails, etc back); so be careful with sentimental things. The timing to walk us down was a bit rushed.. but worked out fine.

As far as photographer, i went with an outside vendor. And to be honest, i am more than satisfied! (If you're tight on budget.. compromise on cake, or even flowers, linens, etc. but DO NOT compromise on photography). We went with Gilda Badillo (www.gildaphoto.com). She and her team are absolutly amazing.. she will come and meet you before the day of and go over what type of shots mean the most to you. Then on the day of.. she brought two other people with her and made sure she captured every moment going on - not to mention took the time to edit each picture to make us both look good (as well as our guests). I couldn't have been happier with her. Plus, she sends gives you rights to all of the pictures she takes of you. AMAZING.

I have uploaded some pictures to show you things that i did..

Menu's and Programs - i made myself. Super easy and simple looking.. but thats what i was going for!  Feel free to ask any quesitons i didnt answer! and.. GOOD LUCK.. enjoy your dayyyyy!!! :) xoxoCeremony from above

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
