Cozumel vs Playa del Carmen

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

After 4 months of creeping on various destination wedding sites since my engagement I have finally signed up to this one (it seems to have tons of info) so I can make posts! Yay!

So my big question is why can't I find much info on DW in Cozumel? What makes it so unpopular? Originally I was set on Cozumel as it looks beautiful and my fiance and I both really like diving, but the more I look into it the more I think the guests may be a bit bored on Cozumel especially if they aren't into diving. I have recently been looking more into Playa del Carmen as it is close to Cozumel but seems to offer more in entertainment and also the resorts seems a lot larger which would provide variety in food, activities etc.

If any one has any thoughts or input on the subject please let me know.. the more research I do the less I seem to be able to make some decisions.

Thanks in advance!!

Greetings,

My personal opinion would be not to do at Cozumel but Playa instead. The guests will have a lot more to do. Plus going on day excursions will be a lot easier. I personally am not a diver so I think I would get board at Cozmel and irritated that I would have to take the boat to town every time, especially if I wanted to go at night and their was no late boat ride back.

I personally did look into Cozumel a little but it seemed like it was more limited in hotel chooses and most hotels had rocky cove beaches vs sandy. Making it better for diving but not lounging.

If you want more photos take a look at the DEL SOL wiki on this site located here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/wiki/del-sol-photography-slideshows-riviera-maya

They have hundreds of pictures at both Playa and Cozumel.

I was in Cozumel last December for a quick stop while on a cruise. It was beautiful, but as for having a destination wedding there, I would agree that Playa del Carmen would maybe be a better option as far as having things to do outside of diving and just laying around on a beach. It seemed that most of the cooler excursions meant taking the ferry across to PDC anyway.

At the same time, I agree with Sara above -- it's your wedding and your day so you can choose the location! Good luck picking!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
