Pros: Service
Cons: Not a white sand beach
After cost/benefitting every all-inclusive in the Cancun area, we chose The Ocean Coral and Turquesa in PM for our wedding, and it was absolutely the right choice.

The property's great and the food is really good, but it's the staff that really made our wedding.  They were totally committed to making our event great and taking care of our family and friends.  Everyone had a wonderful time, and our wedding went perfectly.  They honored all contract obligations, including the upgrades that were only on a "if available" basis, and there were no hidden or extra charges, which meant we could relax and enjoy our wedding.

The girls in the wedding department, Cynthia and Maria, clearly knew exactly what they were doing and had everything totally under control.  We brought our own decorations, and we handed them over to the wedding coordinators and they used them to make the reception area look beautiful with absolutely no supervision.  I was so happy because we were crazy busy getting dolled-up on the day of the wedding, and did NOT have time to micro-manage them!

Me and my hubby were upgraded to Privilege because of our wedding package and were given a sumptuous, HUGE suite looking out over the ocean as a free upgrade.  They had flowers in our room and special wedding decorations for us.  We got a beautiful champagne breakfast in our room with the butler making mimosas for us right there.  It seemed like we had a glass of champagne in our hands the whole time!  It was amazing; we felt like real celebrities.

Lizbeth at the Privilege desk really helped me out with my wedding dress, which was a bit rumpled and tired looking after the 24 hour, multi-flight journey from Shanghai.  I tried a few times to get it dry cleaned, but the maids would not pick it up, and they seemed to want more money than the service menu said, and there was a problem with the turnaround time.  The laundry gets done offsite, and I think the company they're using might not be the best.  This is one area where the OCT could probably improve a little.  Anyway, I went crying to the Privilege desk (you don't actually have to be a Privilege guest to get help there as far as we could tell), and Lizbeth somehow managed to get the dress steamed and returned in under 24 hours and for less money than they wanted for dry cleaning.  The dress looked great.  This was the kind of service that was common throughout our stay.

The food was really good.  Our little flower girl is celiac and is really, really sensitive to gluten.  Her parents were, understandably, pretty concerned that she might get sick.  The kitchen staff totally blew us away with the care they took of her.  They had special meals for her three times a day, and she did not get sick once.  Even better, her parents could relax and enjoy their holiday.  All the food was great, at every restaurant and at the buffet.  It was actually pretty easy to get into the a la carte restaurants, and I think everyone in our group more or less ate at all of them at one time or another.  One thing that could use some improvement, though, is we were never able to get a steak that came close to being cooked rare.  We'd ask for rare and get medium or medium-well.  This happened a few times.  The seafood, though, was amazing!

Another person there who was absolutely fantastic was Gustavo, the head of the animacion team.  I actually connected with him via OCT's facebook page before we even got there.  We wanted to have a "rehearsal dinner" onsite so that everyone in our group could get to know each other (no one lives in the same city, so most of our friends and family were meeting for the first time lol).  I was talking to Gustavo about this, and he arranged a private dinner just for us at the Villa Marina seafood restaurant.  The restaurant was supposed to be closed that day, but they made a special exception for us and didn't even hit us up for extra money for opening it on a closed day.  Really, the staff there did everything in their power to make our wedding great.  Anyway, the private dinner was fantastic, and the food was amazing.  Everyone made had a wonderful time, and our guests got to make speeches and tell stories.  Absolutely rave reviews for the food and beverage staff and for their head chef (his name's Alan Ramirez if you have any special diet needs); they were a big part of the success of our stay.

I think that's about it...  Of course no place is 100% perfect, but this place came with no serious complaints, and I always figure that service is about the most important thing because bad service can really take the fun out of a holiday.  OCT amazed us with their service standard.

Did you bring your decorations with you on the plane or have them shipped? How large was your wedding?

Also, did you use any of the child care services? Wondering how that works. Can we bring outside babysitters on to the property?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I am also wondering about your decor, did you pay for extra luggage or have it shipped. Would love to see pictures, and know who you used professionally!
