We did not want to pay for upgraded chairs either so we decided to just see what we got. They are basic plastic outdoor chairs but not uncomfortable or anything at all. The white chair covers actually looked much nicer than I expected. And I originally emailed and asked what sashes were included for free and Jenny sent me 5 colors, blue, green, pink, orange, red, all just solid plain bold colors. But when we got there we told Yanna we wanted blue and she showed us two different options, one was the light blue sheer which we picked. I thought that looked much nicer! Not sure if other brides leave things, or they just have extra laying around or what but we were happy. One thing that surprised me though was we got charged $3 per chair for the number of chairs over 10. When we booked though the wedding guide did not have a price for chair covers and the latest one says $3 so maybe it changed. I didn't argue it since we only had 26 chairs. I tried to attach a picture of the whole ceremony set up but my pictures are all really big and it won't let me use any that are over 10 mb. These two kind of show the chairs more.

I am debating whether to have the reception at the beach or indoor ballroom...and it has been a big battle in my head!

I loooove the image of a beach wedding...dancing, tiki torches, moonlit surrounding...the whole Caribbean feel. But I know it might not be as pretty as I think. Not sure if the guests would like the sand everywhere, and the wind might be strong, the weather might be bad, mosquitoes..etc. We don't really appreciate a lot of strangers standing around watching either.

Ballroom is a little more formal and classy. More private too, along with AC that I am sure everyone would appreciate under such warm weather. But it lacks the whole "tropical, beach and ocean" feel that only nature has to offer. Good thing about indoor venue is we get to have the party going for longer and there are less variations that I need to worry about.

Did all these when through your head when you were trying to decide? What venues are you guys going for and why?

I am doing mine on the seaside grill deck. It's a good mix of both as it incorpoarates the beachy feel but is a bit more formal than the beach itself

I have the dreams of love package and get some photos of the ceremony within this package but I wanted someone all day... Jennt has said its £150 to let another company other than tropical studios onto the resort - who is everyone else using as I LOVE the design of caribbean emotions photos!! :)

    Hi there,

My wedding is next month. I am using HDR photogrpahy, he came highly recommended on this site last year so i booked him and other brides have out up his photos!

I know how you feel! That was my biggest concern as well...I did not want a wedding in the middle of summer in America, while Dec-May is their peak season with things being much more expensive..

I know 5 different couples that had their wedding/honeymoon in Caribbean during the hurricane season in the recent 3 years, they all told me there is nothing to worry about. 2 couples actually came across stormy weather during part of their stay, but they just chilled in their room and what not.

My FI was really looking into the weather issue for a while and he says there were reports that show DR has less chance of hurricane than many other islands ie Antigua, Jamaica..etc. And when it did hit, it hit more so the western part of the island. That was part of the reason we picked DR and specifically La Romana (according to dr1.com, La Romana should be drier than Punta Cana).

I hope all these will comfort you a little bit! ;) But how you feel is definitely the most important thing! If you are really worried then I would say pick the non-hurricane season. We are going with it but will be closely watching the weather reports :)

I chose November for my wedding, it was more affordable and still great weather!

I am going to do my own hair & makeup. I have been experimenting off and on for a few months now, and I really  just want him to recognize me when I walk down the aisle. :-)

Question for you that have been there - did you use the music they provided for the ceremony? How was it? What was the song used at the end of the ceremony with the champagne toast? We have some songs selected for the ceremony that we want to use, but haven't found an upbeat, celebratory one for the end yet. Any suggestions? We're using Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" for the entrance, and "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton for our ring warming ceremony. We'll use "Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band when we do our sky lantern release after dinner.

    Hey Jenn!

Congrats on your big day coming up!!

Where did you purchase your sky lanterns?? I have found one place online but am always looking for resources!

    Thanks

We had 160 guests at our wedding in November, and no one got food poisoning!!  We had the buffet at the wedding and everyone LOVED it.

Some people did get upset stomachs bc of the difference in the food, but they just took immodium and were fine (its like going to any other strange place - your body isn't used to it!) No one got food poisoning!!

Just wondering what the food options were or what was served for the buffet?

Hey ladies!! Just be careful with your calculations...don't forget that there is a 26% tax (sales tax and service fee) that is in addition the $60-$70 per person, and also that the open bar fee (which is REQUIRED to have by the resort when you are having any sort of event - this is to be sure your guests won't just go to another bar to get the free drinks) is $10/pp plus the 26% tax.  So sometimes it is right around the same price, if not more $$ to NOT do one of the packages.  (The packages already include the taxes)

Also, the free package doesn't include any photos or video of the wedding, your hair/makeup, etc.

    Just something to think about!!

If you have 40 people and don't do a wedding package and the dinner is $70/pp, you are paying $2800 + $728 tax = $3528.  Then for the open bar @ $10/pp you are paying $400 + $104 tax, so your total is now $4032, plus the $500 for the restaurant is $4532.  (With no extras)

To do the Love Wedding package its $2399, then $2016 total for the 20 people not included in the package for dinner & drinks, which = $4915.  So you're only saving $383, but not getting hair/makeup, centerpieces, any pictures, or any video included.

Just make sure you get ALL prices from the WC and know exactly what you will be charged for, so you don't have any surprises.

There are caps on how many guests you can have in each place, and if you are over a certain number of guests you have to have a buffet.  (I think all the numbers are on one of the wedding packets.)

The price that I was quoted 60-70 pp included the reception, cocktail and open bar... undecided.gif

Just to clarify: You are paying a fee for the restaurant (for ex. $1,000 flat fee) and on top of that, you are paying $60-70 per guest.

Or is it that you are just paying a $1,000 fee and this covers the food and service for all guests regardless of the guest count.

Paying the restaurant fee- ($500) and on top of the fee $60-70 pp including the reception and cocktail party. I don't know if there is a cap?? They also offered a buffet since we have 40 people and we were concerned about picking one food option.. it is still cheaper than paying $2500 ++ for a package, because they make you pay the $500 fee on top of that anyways and then per every extra guest over 20 guests... Hope this makes sense

  9. Welcome!!
We are set to marry in November. Since we are having about 40 people I calculated that it is cheaper for us to go with the free package and "buy out" dinner because the packages only cover 20 people. So to pay the extra 60-70 dollars per person over the 20 covered is much more money than to just pay for dinner for everyone and not pay for the package. This is also because I don't want all the "extras" in the packages...

Thanks Jen and Jessica for your responses. I went ahead and booked the Ultimate Package. I actually just got my confirmation from Jenny!!! I'm so excited :-) I talked to my Fiance about the photo issue and he said it won't be a problem because both of his uncles own photography studios locally (one lives in Dominican Republic and the other one lives in Haiti). So they can capture whatever the hotel photographers don't. In terms of professional quality, he is allowing me to make up for that by splurging on engagement photos. So I'm happy again :-) We are expecting about 50 people so I'm sure we'll have to addo on a lot. I will probably be back on here with more questions. But again, thanks so much for your help so far! Stephanie Welcome!! We are set to marry in November.
