  1. We are going to bring our iPod and speakers instead of a dj. Our ceremony is on the dock and we are worried our guests will not hear us. We are trying to work out a way to use a microphones with our speakers. Does anyone have any advice?
We didn't have to pay for the DJ with the wedding, and we did the "free" one, so we had the microphone and had the speaker. Jenny told me it was included. The DJ used our CD (or iPod, I'm not sure, DH handled that part) to play the music we wanted too. They let us keep the speaker for the rest of the evening to use for dinner music and for our bonfire on the beach. We had a small group and it was only one speaker so maybe that is why, but it worked just fine for us. We also didn't decide it until we got there - we just talked about it during our planning meeting.
  2. Hey Jenn! Congrats on your big day coming up!! Where did you purchase your sky lanterns?? I have found one place online but am always looking for resources! Thanks
Hi FutureMrsC - I got them from skylanterns.us. Every single one of them worked - no duds in the bunch. I was happy with them. Not the cheapest, but I felt most comfortable with them.

This site has been brilliant to date and thank you for all the advice shared to date :)

Can I add my date to the list please - 28th May 2013?

Been wondering if any of you have had your wedding streamed live to family and friends at home? Apparently it is possible if I talk to the Internet people when I get there - trouble is we would need to bring the equipment with us in order to set it up so would like some idea in advance

I will email the resort to clarify but wondered if anyone had successfully done it and if so what the dos / donts and costs involved were?

    Thanks

I was wondering about streaming too, but I never asked the wedding coordinators. Have you found anything out? What kind of equipment would you need? I was toying with the idea of just doing a Skype or FaceTime call on my iPad. Not great quality, but they can watch the video later too.

  4. Eeek! One week from tomorrow is our wedding, we leave in THREE days! I still don't have the contract from Yanna. I am not worried though. As long as we're on the beach and the officiant is there, and our small group of guests, nothing else really matters.

I am going to do my own hair & makeup. I have been experimenting off and on for a few months now, and I really  just want him to recognize me when I walk down the aisle. :-)

Question for you that have been there - did you use the music they provided for the ceremony? How was it? What was the song used at the end of the ceremony with the champagne toast? We have some songs selected for the ceremony that we want to use, but haven't found an upbeat, celebratory one for the end yet. Any suggestions? We're using Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" for the entrance, and "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton for our ring warming ceremony. We'll use "Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band when we do our sky lantern release after dinner.

  6. Welcome Stephanie!  I went with the less expensive package because I'm only having 7 guests, and wouldn't be using some of the things offered in the more expensive ones. I decided on HDC photography after reading some reviews here and comparing packages. I think you get a little more for the money with HDC and probably some of the others. In terms of quality - I haven't really heard anything bad, it just sounds like what's included in the wedding package is pretty basic and if you want anything added on it gets pricey. I also heard that the printed photos were not really on high quality photo paper - I think I read that in one of the previous reviews.

I can relate to your "lazy bride" statement. I am taking the same approach. I really don't feel the need to dictate every detail of the decorations, etc. Maybe it's because it's my second marriage, maybe because I've grown up a bit (only 13 years!) since the last one.

I am have opted to go with the ultimate package but I see that a lot of you have gone with the less expensive packages. Is it not worth it? I kind of wanted to do the least amount of planning possible. I am a lazy bride :-(  But I don't want to be a foolish one. I looked on the Tropical Studio website and those pictures seemed to be really nice to me. Are they not an accurate representation of the the Hotel photography's work?

  7. Thanks for all the info, Jessicalynneh and Vancouver Bride! We are not planning to do a cocktail reception. We are only going to have 7 guests and they are going to want to follow us around and take pictures anyway, I think. We are just going to pick a bar to congregate at before dinner, I think. We are doing dinner on the beach - for those that have - how is the lighting after sunset? I requested some tiki torches and candles on the table, but I didn't give any specifics other than to use the "altar" centerpiece as the dinner table centerpiece. We thought about the wedding gazebo for dinner - how far is the main white gazebo from the rustic beach gazebo? It looks like it's all the way across the resort.

  8. Welcome azua617. I felt the same. You can find some info right on the website that explains the packages available and the costs. It's hard to get a price for all the add-ons before you book. The WCs will send you the brochures that have some of those prices, if you send me your email addy in a PM, I will email what I received to you. I would recommend working with them to set your date before you book your travel. I thought we had ours confirmed and then it ended up having to shift a day. The WCs usually take a week or two to respond, and I actually ended up calling the resort at first. There's a lot of info in this and other threads, it can feel a little overwhelming. But really, the moral of most of the stories is not to worry, it will all be perfect in the end. Good luck to you!

does anyone know how this process works? i'm very lost. I don't want to book anything until I have a quote of how much everything is gonna cost? If I email the WC will they be able to help me with this?

  12. Happy Holidays everyone! I hope that, however you celebrate, that you enjoy your time.

11 weeks from today is our wedding! I feel like I should be doing more, but I don't really know what more to do. So, I'm just going to relax and enjoy after some pretty hectic time at work and at home. Dress is picked out, paperwork is ready to be sent in for translation & certification, photographer has been selected. Still a few things to do, but I'm really liking this low maintenance destination wedding thing so far!

"See" you all in the new year!

  13. Beautiful! You were a lovely bride, and the setting is truly gorgeous. You can see the joy on your face in the picture with your father. Thank you for sharing. I definitely feel better about the beach gazebo the more pictures I see. Looking forward to any tips you learned when you have some more time. I'm assuming you brought the aisle runner along, and had to pay extra for the flower decorations on the gazebo?

    Congratulations again!

wedding was amazing! I definitely had my dream wedding, and I didnt' even think it was possible.  I was never fully comfortable having a destination/outdoor wedding, but soooo glad I did. I'm going to post a full review and pictures, etc soon. Just as soon as this show is over.

We are in the process of book our wedding here! I am having a hard time deciding on which package to choose though! If anyone could give me some advise I would love to hear it. I am wondering if you have to pay extra's for things like the sash's on the chairs in all three of the packages? Does any of the packages come with a dance floor for the reception? I am also wondering if you have to pay extra to have the reception on the seaside deck. I am not sure if I am reading their information properly. I was adding everything up and it seemed even with the top package with decorations and such the price comes to around $5000. Is this correct? It seems more then I had expected but maybe my expectations were off. I would love any feedback.

    Hi APNK,

I did pretty much the same as Marji - figured out the cost of the elements of the packages and compared to the base/free wedding package and decided if they were worth it to us to upgrade. Since I didn't want to use resort photography, some of the add-ons I wanted weren't included in any package anyway, and we're going to have a small group (I think 7 - 10 altogether), it really just didn't seem worth it to me. I have not added everything up yet. I'm a little scared to know what the total is. I already flinched at the cost of the preferred suite so that we could get the "free" package, but am happy to have the suite for getting ready the day of the wedding especially. I also know that I am going to be mostly fine with whatever is included and not adding much on or customizing much. It's the second wedding for both of us, and as long as we have the sun, sand, ocean, and each other, it will be perfect.

  15. I thought I'd start another list for us - everyone is already married from the last one I could find! Congrats to all of you! I went back to try to catch all the upcoming brides, but it's a lot of posts to go through as you know. :-) Feel free to copy/paste and add or edit your own information.

I am new to this website and i just got recently engaged. I need as much information as possible on this resort. I was there in 2008 but back then it was not a Dreams hotel. How would i arrange a destination weddings? I heard that it is best to go thru a travel agent just to make sure you get the best price... any advice would be appreciated..thank you :)

Welcome Aimee! When are you hoping to get married? Choosing a location was the hardest part for me. I don't know if I can tell you the best way - but what I did was to contact the wedding coordinators at the resort. There's a wedding quote form that you can fill out on the website, but I had better luck emailing/calling directly. Jenny's email is: [email protected], and Yanna is: [email protected]. Once I had confirmation that the date I was looking for was available, and received the confirmation

from the wedding coordinators, I contacted a local travel agent to set up a group booking. Some of my guests are not as well traveled as I, so I wanted them to have an expert to call.

There's a lot of helpful information here - if you have other specific questions, I'm sure someone will be able to help you!

How did your big day go, Adesir8? I haven't seen a check in from you - but I know it was only a couple of weeks ago. Congrats! Hope it was everything you dreamed of?

  18. Vancouver Bride and Andrenna, Congratulations to the new Mrs! Looking forward to hearing about your trips and especially seeing more pics of the beach gazebo since that is where we have reserved for our ceremony. I haven't decided anything else yet, and wedding is in just 3 months on 3/8! I'm not too worried. Working on paperwork now and have dress picked out, just need to order. Andrenna, I am so sorry for your loss. My BFF died suddenly on 9/28, and I am having a hard time getting excited about the wedding plans now. She was so good at all of this and it would have been so fun to work through all of thee details with her. Not many people are coming and I know she would have been there no matter what. Did you do anything special to remember your friend at your wedding?

Hi Andrenna It's so exciting to "meet" another DLR bride, especially one with similar dates and guest list :) It sounds like our weddings are quite similar. We are doing private beach gazebo ceremony, SSG deck/pier cocktails, and SSG reception. I am also NOT happy about the reception venue fee (that none of the othe Dreams have apparently). Our wedding planner went all the way to the head of AI resorts and tried to remove it, but no luck. We wanted airconditioned for the older guests, so outside isn't an option for the reception.  We may have to pay for the speakers twice beleive it or not. We have one set with a mic for the beach ceremony and another set of speakers and mic for the reception/toasts. I have asked our planner to negotiate on a lower price or just getting one set and having them move it, but apparently the speaker set up is different for inside vs. outside. We are just bringing an ipod and hooking it up. Yes the forced overnight from Vancouver flight disaster was quite a surprise, especially after our planner said that rarely happens. We are working with a planner and travel agent based in Vancouver. My FI and I were very stern and said that the Toronto overnight was unacceptable for our guests as several relatives are 70+. Instead we are going through Montreal with a free hotel stay and relaxed brunch that morning before flying to DR. It takes longer, but the more relaxed overnight will be easier for our grandparents. I was NOT happy about the flight situation, but it's solved now.  I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I can't imagine that happening.  I'm happy to help you out or at least chat and vent to each other since our weddings are so similar if you want. Just PM me or email me at [email protected] Vancouver Bride
  19. Jessmaine, how did everything turn out? I hope your sister had a magical day!

We leave Nov 10 and Still NOTHING....UGGGGGGGGGGG  I am ready to go bat shit crazy.  I know I have her e-mail correct and the lady from Apple that we are working with has not heard from her back either.  So far we have nothing for this wedding picked out.   I am at a loss...I guess the next step is calling.  I even e-mailed the conceirge and she said she would forward my e-mail to Yanna..but still nothing....
  20. Congratulations Jess! Looks wonderful! We were thinking of doing sky lanterns too. Where did you get yours? I will read back a ways in case you already shared that. :-) I am glad to see the bonfire on the beach too, I didn't think they were allowing that anymore based on some other comments here. Did you set that up once you got there or before you arrived? How much did they charge you for it? I am trying to take a laid back approach and figure we'll sort most of it out with Jenny or Yanna after we are there since it looks like we'll have a pretty small group.

Here is a picture of the private beach gazebo next to the jungle restaurant at DLR. The view ocean is behind and to the right.

Thank you! I've seen so many pictures, but this is a new one. It IS pretty, and I'm sure it will be fine. The brochures show this beautiful wedding directly on the beach, and I hate to feel like I have to settle. For now, we have reserved the beach gazebo, and I know we will get some lovely pictures on the beach even if we are not married there. We will only have about 6-8 guests, so maybe we can figure something out once we get there. I'm really not too worried about it.

  22. Hi everyone - I'm new here! In the very early stages of planning our wedding for Dreams La Romana for Saturday, March 9. Your comments have been very helpful - thank you all for sharing your experiences! Right now, it helps to know that the waiting for responses, etc. is very common and I shouldn't worry. It's frustrating when they answer only part of the question!

So, it looks like some of you have gotten married right on the beach. This has been our dream since we first started talking about a destination wedding. Barefoot on the beach, just before sunset. Jenny & Yanna have slightly different answers, but both seem to be saying that getting married on the beach is not possible. I don't really want to be in the gazebo - just on the beach with the beautiful ocean & sky behind us. So, for those of you that did, did it take a lot of convincing and they finally gave in, or ??? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

    ~Jennifer
