  1. Hi Shannonlsmith!

Congratulations!!  How was your wedding?!?!  Did DJ Bob exceed your expectations also?  We're in the midst of selecting a DJ for our wedding on Memorial day 2013.

  2. I absolutely LOVE your photos and Del Sol's work!!  They were the first vendors we booked as soon as we knew we were going to get married in Riviera Maya...even before nailing down the venue!  hahaha.  I can't wait!  6 months away!!  eeeeek!!

    Thanks for sharing!

delSol Photography was the very first vendor I hired for my wedding.  I wanted my wedding memories to be accurately captured and I knew that photography was one of the most important pieces for me.  I chose delSol based on the slideshows and posts on this forum.  They have this uncanny ability to reflect the real spirit and emotion in their photographs and I wanted that kind of product for my day.  Sure the photographs are often beautiful and people in them are beautiful too.  But more importantly--and this is something I've come to appreciate even more in my own photographs--they look genuine.  The delSol photographs, more than any others I've seen, show people in their natural, genuine, and emotionally best.  They are sometimes quirky and funky and fun.  In my own, I have many favorites now where I am most definitely not the flawless bride.  I look like an amazingly happy bride.  That's what I want to remember from my wedding.  The sheer joy of the day.  And that is what delSol photography gave me.   I could not recommend them more highly.

    Wedding

Matt Adcock and Juan Jose shot the wedding day.  They showed up as a big ball of energy, Matt all in white with a white fedora cocked sideways on his head.  They were characters: friendly, intense, working to settle nerves and get that perfect shot.   They seemed to be everywhere and no where.  We were instructed to treat them as if they weren't there and after about half an hour that's exactly what we did.   I imagine they work hard to put everyone at ease and it worked.  We and our friends had rented an absolutely gorgeous modern Villa along the lagoon (Villa Gauguin), and Matt and Juan knew we liked the modern elements and set about capturing them flawlessly.

We then moved to the wedding location at Al Cielo.  While I imagine they were all over during the celebration, I never noticed them (then again, I was pre-occupied).  They were very unobtrusive.  After the wedding, Matt took over the herding of cats that is my wedding party to ensure we got the standard "family" and "wedding party" shots.  Then we were once again turned lose to do our own thing.

I want to make one special note here primarily because it will not be obvious from the slideshows.  Our wedding party consisted of our four best couple friends.  While I expected them to necessarily be included in many of the shots, I did not specifically ask that they get their "own" photographs.  Matt and Juan went out of their way to capture each individual couple in at least one of their own unique, candid photograph.  When we received the package, they were thrilled to see those photographs and our friends were each so happy to have their own couple shot as a personal memory for the day.  This had been something we would have wanted and requested had we thought of it -- but we didn't and they did it on their own.  It was very thoughtful and much appreciated.

    Trash the Dress

Our trash the dress was staged at a very busy cenote near Tulum.  Matt and his wife Sol were our photographers.  We actually went to two sections of the cenote.  One, although on the property, must not be known by anyone (and, well, you can't swim there) and no one was there.  Sol called it the bat cave.  While my friends after the fact claimed it must have been a back-drop, I confided that we had to wade through bat dung to get to the secluded spot reflected below. ;)  The second half of the shots were done in the swimming side of the cenote park and it was PACKED -- not that you could tell from any of the photographs.  Although I do okay being natural, I have a hard time being "sexy" for a camera.  That's where Sol came in and she did a perfect job of both putting me at ease and getting naturally sexy poses for the camera.  Matt did his own underwater gig thing, capturing those surreal looking pics.  He even got a couple without my husband popping out his cheeks in a parady of a fish breathing. ;)

Links to our slideshows are below and I've also posted a couple of my favorite pics.  If you are in the Riviera Maya, I cannot say enough about the skill and spirit of these photographers.

  3. Hi Mikeycelle!

You seem like you've definitely done your research!  Your Xcaret engagement photos sounds like they'll be AMAZING!!  Can't wait to see them if you'll share them with us.

My Fiance and I just booked a SUPER last min trip out to Riviera Maya/Cancun 2 days ago and are super excited to go again since it's been exactly 3 years since we've visitied.  I know other resorts will credit your site visit stay towards your wedding if you book with them, did Grand Palladium do that for you when you went 2 weeks ago?  I'm not even sure if they have a similar policy.  We're just hoping to keep this a budget trip and nail down what we need to i.e. pay deposits, refresh our memory and check out all the wedding ceremony/reception/bar sites again, maybe meet up with some other planner groups since we're probably going to bring outside vendors in.  I'm not even sure what else we can arrange in such short notice...

Thanks for all the info & tips!  I'll definitely be ready with lots of OFF bugspray.  Everytime I go anywhere tropical, the mosquitos love feasting on me and leave a ton of evidence all over me to prove it =/

Your wedding sound like it'll be fabulous!!  Good luck on the planning!!

    Hi LoveInParadise and Palladium Brides!

I just got back 2 weeks ago from Grand Palladium Riviera Maya. We don't have a TA. We don't know if it's worth having a middleman. Our guests like booking online and we'd like them to have the freedom of shopping for the best prices for their budgets.

We had our engagement photo shoot at Xcaret by New York- based Benchwerk Photography. We plan on sending Save the Date postcards as soon as we book a date.

We met with the petite, very sweet, energetic Vanessa Roldan who showed us around the resort. The resort is breathtakingly beautiful! The service was excellent, the staff are friendly, the place is sanitary ( they had hand sanitizers everywhere and the staff in the restaurants wear hairnets and the managers were always present)

They're only taking 2013 bookings in May. The packages rates are changing to 2013 rates. They only do wedding on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a max of 3 weddings a day during the high season. We hope our guests can do the whole week with us.Those who can do the whole week can come in on Thursday (in time for reheasal dinner), Wedding on Friday, have Saturday to themselves and leave on Sunday in time for work on Monday.

We're having a Catholic Nuptial Mass in the chapel.onsite on Friday at 4 pm.It's going to be a traditional Filipino wedding with candle ceremony, coin ceremony, and veil and cord ceremony.  It should end by 5:30 PM. I wanted ample time to take pictures after the wedding so I googled what time the sunset will be in April 2013 is 7:08 PM. The cocktail hour at Las Rocas bar ( by the saltwater pool overlooking the ocean) opens at 6 PM. Just enough time for picture taking and sipping cocktail and snacking on appetizers until the wedding reception at 7 pm at one of the buffet restaurants, La Laguna.

I want a mariachi band playing during cocktail hour. Vanessa will email me the updated prices for 2013. By the way the backdrop for your pictures will be amazing!

We chose April because it is right after spring break, the room rates drop which will be helpful for our guests and right before hurricane season. We also wanted to avoid the mosquitos which come after the rains. I plan on getting the OFF! clip ons and citronella candles to ward off mosquitos. I got bitten on the last 2 days of vacation after the rains. It may or may not work but I'm doing what I can to ward off the pests!

The ceiling decoration is included in the package however the lights are not ($150 USD). The linen only come in white except for the sashes( blue ,aqua, light pink, light blue, yellow, white and cappuccino) They have an external supplier if you want different colored tablecloth ( $10 USD ea) Color napkins ( $1.50 each) Tiffany chairs ( $5) There is an extra charge of $50 to th external supplier bring everything in.

Keep in mind the resort is huge and your guests wil be doing a lot of walking! You can arrange for the coordinator to send trolleys for the older folks who have trouble walking or for yourself if you don't want to schlep from one end of the resort to the other and it gets hot! The place is gorgeous and offers so much activities. There is always something for everyone.

I'll update once I hear more from Vanessa. Happy planning!

  6. Hi Samanthamontoya!

Thanks for your insights!  Good point, Friday or Monday wedding will still suffice to minimize the time off our guests will have to take.  Afterall, they'll be traveling out there from San Francisco anyway, why not force them to enjoy themselves a day or so longer?  hahaha.

I'm hoping the packages will not increase drastically for 2013.  Thanks for all the tips!  And congrats to you as well!!

So glad to hear that you loved the resort so much you picked it for your big day, I have never been so it's refreshing to hear that you really really like it. I heard the same thing about weekday weddings there, they also have only 3 weddings a day so make sure to book early (which it sounds like you're doing) so you can get the time slot you like the best ( I booked my wedding a year in advance and originally wanted the date to be the  Friday the 9th, when I checked, the only time slot they had for the 9th was 11am because the other two slots were taken, so Thursday the 8th is what I went for instead so I could have my wedding at 4pm). I'm sure your guests won't mind the weekday wedding date, maybe shoot for a Friday or Monday then they won't have to take that much time off.

As for the packages, I don't think they change very much from year to year, probably the price by a couple hundred dollars if anything. You shouldn't have a problem reserving your wedding date even if the package isn't officially ready and priced. You don't actually pay for your wedding package until you get there so you'll have plenty of time to pick which one you want. They just need a $300 deposit to reserve your time and date. Here's a couple things to keep in mind though....

the package price is for only 8 people, each additional guest will cost an additional $20 (kids under 12 free) I heard through this thread that some brides were able to drive this price down a little by choosing to not have a champagne toast or bows on their chairs.

if you want a private dinner reception or you plan on having more than 40 guests join you for dinner, it's going to be an additional $50-$65 per guest depending on what menu you choose. If you have less than 40 guests they can reserve a spot for you and your guests at an a la carte restaurant there at the resort for no additional fee.

You might already know that, but it kinda surprised me how fast everything can add up.

    Happy planning and CONGRATS!!!!

  7. Beachwed2013- that's not cost effective...that's a STEAL!  I'd LOVE to spend $100 on 125 invites!!  haha.  You did a FABULOUS job!!!  Seriously they look professional.  My FI and I are currently getting quotes for boarding pass STD & Passport Invites thru a few etsy sellers but they're still upwards of $900+.  I'd much rather find some templates and create my own too.  I also think it's a great personal touch...kind of like receiving a handmade card for your birthday!

    Glue - $2, paper - $25, Postage - About $50. Ribbon - $10. Envelopes - $10.  Total Cost - about $100 for 125 invites! Printed at home :)

I got an excellent deal on paper at Jo Ann's and it worked out well. Usually you pay between 2-3 per invite and then include postage so Yes for me it was cost effective! And extremely personal for all the guests! I was really proud of them and knew that i put the effort in for each guest :)

  8. Hi Sarah!

Those looks AMAZING!  You mentioned the regular price would have been $1200+, did you end up tallying how much you actually spent by doing it yourself?  Thnx!

    Hi Ali,
Thank you so much! Letterpress is a relief printing technique using a press which raised the surface of the type. I checked the prices at couple printing shops and 25 sets of invites (4 cards each set) it's going to cost me more then $1200.00. I didn't want to spent that much on the invites so I went DIY way.
I follow a tutorial from here http://www.boxcarpress.com/us/blog/2009/11/ and ordered a plate from them by sending in my design.

I brought the press and inks from amazon  http://www.amazon.com/Lifestyle-Crafts-Letterpress-Combo-Epic/dp/B002WZLI7U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335498620&sr=8-1

  9. This is gorgeous!  Looks super comfy and lightweight too!  I love it!  I'd def go w/ the sweetheart neckline too...makes the dress even more romantic.

I bought my dress after the 2nd day of dress shopping and as much as i DO love it the only 2 specifications it didn't fit is that it's not lightweight & breathable.  I was already breaking a sweat in the bridal salon...now add 30 degrees + humidity...i'm probably going to die =/ This California girl doesn't do too well in humidity unless I'm in the water...haha...or in AC.

That being said I guess I should put my dress up here too! Sorry it is the stock photo, the picture of me in my actual dress got deleted from my sister's phone, so I will just have to wait until alteration time to get another. :(

I got it in diamond white so that I don't match the sand lol, and I am getting rid of the bow. I am also thinking about changing the neckline to make it more of a sweetheart, but still undecided about that part.

  11. That dress looks AMAZING on you, Jello!  And to get it on sale??  BONUS!!

Can I ask you who makes it?  I'm looking for a 2nd dress for my TTD session since the dress I bought (Mori Lee) is heavy, strapless, and has a lot of detail so i'm afraid it'd be tough to lug around underwater...haha.  This dress would be perfect since I'm looking for a flowy non-strapless dress.

    Many Thanks!

  15. Thanks for letting me know about this thread ChocoTaco7568!

Awesome to see so many Cancun & Riviera Maya Brides also!  You ladies are lucky your resorts have allowed you to secure the 2012 packages for May 2013.  That's the biggest piece I'm worried about because we're trying to get Memorial Day Weekend to alleviate the amount of days our guest will have to take off but our resort says they won't have 2013 packages until mid May. I guess that's just around the corner but I just want this huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

Here's my completed checklist so far:

    Dress

    Wedding Colors

    Venue (chosen, not confirmed)

    Photographer

    Currently working on:

    Securing Resort

    STD & Invites

WC? (Do you ladies have a WC or are you just using the WC from the resort?)

TA? (Are you ladies using one or are you letting your guests find their own packages/airfare/room rates?)

Extra Decor Vendor (lounge furniture, ceremony backdrop, chivari chairs, flowers, etc since I'm not too crazy about the typical wedding decor at our resort)

oh boy...i feel like my list of immediate tasks just grew.  Luckily my FI has been 110% supportive and actually doing most of the coordination as he has a flexible job being his own boss.

No Need to feel behind, we still have 13 months! Thatâ€s the great thing about the May 2013 thread, we  get to share our journey and keep each other on track and inspired. If anything some of us might be ahead of the curve a bit.

I know that TauruSmith, Bride81 and I are all having our weddings at various AM All-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya which might be why weâ€re able to have room rates secured and everything booked. My wedding has been reserved since January and I signed my contract for group rates and my room block in March (all of which are based on 2012 rates).  The only unknown is airfare since flights wonâ€t be published until June. And since I have people flying in from 5 different states I wasnâ€t trying to get a packaged flight/accomodations deal.
