  1. I highly recommend Ivan Luckie! Here is my review and photos below...

Pros: Responds Quickly, Creative, Caring, Passionate, Loyal, Easy & Fun to Work With
    Cons: None

We got married at Sun Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico on 01/15/12. The one thing I was concerned about with the wedding planning was photography. That was the MOST important part to me. I did research on all the local photographers in Cancun for months... I read reviews, looked at tons of pictures, prices, sent many emails to photographers, etc. When I came across Ivan Luckie's work I was instanly impressed. He seems to have 90% good reveiws which is very impressive. Then when you begin to look at his work, you get blown away. He has a very creative style. He definitely has a eye for photography. He creates amazing photos and captures some really special moments. Not only is he a AWESOME photography but he is a really kind hearted man. We really got to know him when we rode in the car for 45 minutes to travel to the cenote to take trash the dress photos. We talked to entire ride and I was very impressed with how caring and loyal he is with his work. He doesn't do this to charge a ton of money, he truly does it for the art and to make his customers happy. He responds quickly to every email and answers every question you have. He never let me down. He will go out of his way to make you happy and do anything that is needed for your special day. If you book Ivan Luckie for your wedding and/or trash the dress photo shoot, you will NOT be disappointed. And I must say his specialty is trash the dress sessions. Our pictures turned out AMAZING and I've seen many more on his facebook page that he has done and they all are breathtaking.

  2. Hey there! I'm so glad to hear you got amazing wedding photos. Congrats! I have talked to David Pena but I have been debating on Ivan Luckie. This is such a hard decision. Do you have some more wedding photos that I can view? Thanks for you time.

  3. Thanks for all your responses and advice. I have been really stuggling with choosing a photographer. I was orginally going to pick Juan Navarro but a couple of his recent weddings gave me doubts. Now I'm looking at Ivan Luckie.

Has anyone used Ivan Luckie or heard about his work?

Photography is extremely IMPORTANT to me. I see all these amazing and beautiful wedding pictures and all these great reviews. I just want those same experiences and amazing photos. I'm just so scared of making the wrong choice.

Also, it's hard to choose a photographer when every single one of them ALL have great reviews. I haven't read a bad review yet. It makes it so difficult.

Oh and the TTD photos are so amazing but I'm coming home and having a reception. Have you ever seen someone use another dress just so they can do TTD?

  4. I'm getting married at Sun Place Resort in Cancun on 01-15-12. I thought I was set on booking Juan Navarro but now I'm beginning to think I might regret that decision. I've read many great reviews on him and he responds to my emails in a timely manner but I've noticed a lot of his pictures are bad shots of people or have shadows on their faces. I don't want to feel like I need to edit or fix a professionals photos. I'm so torn and confused on what to do. I know I need to book someone soon for our wedding date.

Our budget is $1500. I want at least 300 or more photos. I want a CD or DVD with all the photos and printing rights. I just really want amazing and beautiful high quality pictures.

Please help me if you can.... All the top photographers suggested on this site are waayyyy too expensive for us. I know you get what you pay for but I'm really hoping I can find a blessing with an amazing photographer. Pictures mean the world to me!

  5. Thanks for your response. Yeah, I haven't heard any bad feedback on the hair stylist at the resort. I was planning on taking a photo of the hair style I want also. All we can do is hope for the best. I haven't heard of Octavio. Does he have a website? We're having a small wedding also. Everything is so exciting. I look forward to hearing more about your wedding planning and how everything turns out. Yours is right around the corner. Woo Hoo! Are you doing the complimentary package or did you purchase a package? If you purchased a package, do you know how it works with the 36 photos that are included if you bring in an outside photographer? Have you started communicating with Cyntia (wedding coordinator) yet? She can be a little hard to get ahold of at times. Well I wish you the best with everything!

I don't have much more info than you at this point, but you are welcome to walk my journey with me & I will pass along all that I can!  :-)

  6. Hello Ladies,

Congrats on your weddings and good luck with all the planning. It has been fun so far!

I can't figure out what would be best for my fiance to wear to our ceremony. I have seen white linens and ivory suits. My dress is an off white color. I thought an ivory suit would look good but some people said not to have him wear a suit on the beach. And then what about shoes? I'm not big on mens feet. LOL! I've seen some barefoot and some with shoes. What do yall think looks best? And what do yall plan to have yalls men wear?

If you have been previously married on the beach, I would love to see a picture of you and your hubby on your wedding day ;-)

    Thanks,

    ~Tara~

  7. Thank you for the response. Yeah I thought most of that stuff was included. So.. do most people use music if they have a beach wedding? I didn't even think about using any until I seen your post. Hmm... I don't know if it even makes a difference or not? I have never been to a beach wedding. As for our reception, I think we're going to just do dinner at one of the restaurants. We aren't really having a reception since it will just be us and our parents. We plan to have one when we get home. So I don't think I need any decorations, etc.

As far as chairs the standard white chairs are included. Some decorations for the ceremony are included in the Sapphire Collection, such as arrangement for the judges table, colored fabric for the chuppah, silk flowers along the aisle, and chair sashes on some of the chairs for a pop of color. As far as the reception goes, I believe you need to provide all your own decoration OR pay for the decor company to do it for you. You can also purchase centerpieces and other upgrades such as lighting, candles, colored linens, etc.

  13. 1) Great suggestion for ceremony music. I didn't even think about any music since we're getting married on the beach. Can you hear it? Do people ususally have music played on the beach for their ceremony?

    2) I think the resort charges too much for their photos. I don't think you get what you pay for. I'm not taking a chance on it. I plan to hire an outside photographer & pay the $88 resort fee. I'm currently looking at Juan Navarro.

    3) I was told by my wedding coordinator that bouquets are included. The one I'm planning on using is under the complimentary package even though I purchased the Sapphire Collection. It's of white lillies and roses with a ribbon to match our setup. It's beautiful and it's free!

    4) I was also told by my wedding coordinator that chairs and decorations are included. I've seen photos of a complimentary package with a beautiful setup with chairs also. So far I've heard they do an amazing job with their weddings!

    1) You should definitely consider getting a dj or and IPOD package because the music for the reception is not provided. Also you can bring a CD for your ceremony music and they will play it for you. One thing to consider with the IPOD package is that no one will MC for you. ( i'm personally using DJ Doremixx)

    2) you can either get a photographer or use the resort...it depends on how important photos are to you

    3) You need to order bouquets, you can get them from the resort but they are VERY expensive. Also alot of brides chose to order/ make silk or real touch bouquets so they don't wilt in the heat and that you can keep them when you go home.

    4) Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure they will provide all the chairs with no problem.

  14. I am doing a reception when we get home but haven't yet thought about photographer for it yet. I would love it but we're on a budget, so I might get a friend to just help me. That sounds like an awesome deal though. I thought about taking a photographer from home but it seemed more expensive that way. I would have to pay for the flight, room and their photography rates. So I just researched for a local photographer. Juan Navarro seems amazing. Plus he is familiar with the location, good shots on the beach, etc. What you have planned sounds like a sweet deal. Good luck with everything!

I asked around and almost every photographer I asked was willing to do the Mexico wedding for free, if I hired them for the reception.

I'm taking my photographer with and I get her for 3 days!

  15. Congrats to all you future and past brides! This time is such an exciting time in our lives.

We're getting married at Sun Place Resort on 01/15/12, which will be our four year anniversary. We're so excited!

I have a few questions for some of the past brides... Did any of you use the hair stylist at the resorts? Are they really good? I'm thinking of doing a side ponytail with lots of curls. And have it slightly pushed up so my hair doesn't look flat and add a flower in my hair. I'm nervous because I have never wore my hair like this before and I can't find a good picture that shows exactly what I'm hoping my hair will look like. Just curious how good their stylist really are...?

Next question, Photography! The most important part of wedding planning. I was going to just trust the resort photographers because I've heard they are good. But then I have heard from some brides that it's not worth the price. And they do charge a lot! It's around $1500 for only 150 photos. I have been doing a little research and have come across Juan Navarro. Has anyone used him? I have read great reviews on him and he is rated #5 on this website. He charged $1100 for 350 photos. So far I have been really impressed with him. He responds to my emails within 24 hours and is very detailed with anyswering my questions. His work also looks amazing and he seems to be very creative. Just curious what some of you other Palace Resort brides plan to do. I know Palace Resorts used to not allow outside wedding photographers but have recently changed their rules. I think they now charge $88 fee for a day pass. Which still seems to be worth it.

Okay, on to the outfits.

Now for our parents. We're doing a small wedding with just our moms. And my step-dad is going to marry us. If we're wearing off white and our wedding theme is blue. What colors should our moms wear for pictures? At first I thought off white too but then we wouldn't stand out as much. I considered a dress with blue in it to match our theme but it's hard to match blue. I might be thinking too much but just was curious on others peoples thoughts...

I know this was a long post. But I have a lot of questions and would love to get some advice and opinions. Thanks for your time. Good luck on your wedding planning. Or congrats if you're already married.

  16. We're booked at Sun Palace Resort and our parents are booked at Cancun Resort which both are under Palace Resorts. You could always do something like that. You can have them there when you want them but not when you want that romantic time with your new hubby :-)

  17. We're staying at our resort for 9 nights. We will arrive on Thursday to meet with our wedding planner. We will have the weekend with our parents then get married on Sunday. Our parents will leave on Monday morning and we will stay for our honeymoon until Friday. Woo Hoo! It's going to be amazing!!!

  18. Hello Ladies, We're getting married at the Sun Palace Resort on 01/15/12. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I'm doing the Sapphire Collection because blue is my favorite color. I'm trying to decide on a photographer. They have them at the resort but the cost seems a little pricey for what you get. I talked to the resort and they said you can get an $88 pass for the outside photographer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at the top rated ones on this website. Juan Navarro responded to my email and seems very reasonably priced. His pictures look awesome and he responds to my emails within 24 hours. Pictures are one of the MOST important things to me. I love photos because they capture such special moments that you can never forget. Also, I'm a little worried about getting my hair done at the resort. Has anyone already been married at this resort and have any advice or suggestions....??? Oh... does anyone have any ideas of what my fiance should wear with it being a beach wedding? My dress is off white. It looks white until you put it next to a white dress. He was thinking maybe off white linens. I thought an ivory suit would look good. I don't know. I'm also confused on what to have our parents wear for our family shots. I was thinking of having them wear off white too so we will match but then we won't stand out as much. Some people suggested they wear blue to match the decorations but I don't know if they can match the color or if it will clash. Hmmm.... I have so many thought and questions. I would love to talk to more ladies getting married at this resort or have already been married at this resort. Congrats to everyone!!! ~*Tara*~

  19. Palace Resorts used to not let any outside photographers in at all. They recently changed the rules to where you can do a day pass or book them a night at the hotel. I asked a couple people at Sun Palace Resort and they said it would be fine. I would get it confirmed just in case before you book the photographer. But this is why all the outside photographers say they can't work at Palace Resorts from past experiences.
