  1. Hi girls!!! Lots of newbies, bets of luck with your upcoming weddings! Decided to pop in and see how things are going. Shocked to see Marlene is no longer with BBPD..WOW. I am sure whomever takes over will also do a great job.

Vendors fees are $1000 and no they wont allow outside photographers with a day pass. Day passes are only for guests whom are not staying at the resort. The only way to get around the outside vendor fee is to have our photographer stay at the resort as a guest to your wedding party.

  3. Hi Ladies!!

As I begin my married life I have come to terms that I need to part with some things and hope that it will bring the same happiness to someone else. I am reselling my TTD of which is a knockoff Allure 8862 size 6.  Ammazzing dress and I love it! In great condition, it has a lil wear and tear toward the bottom of some of the ruffles but barely noticeable. I have attached a pic. $100

SOLD - I am also selling my after wedding reception dress. I wore this dress to the club at the resort for maybe 3 hours. Its a short  organza dress with a sweetheart, rouched neckline, beading on the top portion and with a lace up corset back. $60 also a size 6.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions or want to see anymore pics. Thanks!

  4. Thanks Teena, and girl please no hard feelings once so ever =) Your wedding was just as beautiful if not more so, we each have our own style and personal touches that make each of our days unique. I am glad everything worked out well and it was a pleasure to meet you in the spa LOL! As far as centerpieces and MC just my personal opinion...but hey like butt holes we each have one right LOL.

E & T...love it! How funny about the divorce j/k. We actually bartered with our photographer. We just covered all her expenses in exchange for her covering the week including the TTD session. We covered transportation for her to and from CT to NY, her airfare, and accomodations. She had not done a destination wedding before so this was a great oppty for her as well. It worked out as a win win situation. I would say in total it cost about $1100 or there abouts. What really screwed us up was the airfare from NY to PUJ..it was sooo expensive. Nearly $600 roundtrip so that was where our biggest expense came in. Needless to say it worked out perfectly and she really is part of the family now =)

  5. Hi girls!! I cant help but check up on you guys since your all like familia!!

Natalie: I cant believe your big day is so close, best of luck chicky! Cant wait to hear all about it as I am sure it will work out perfectly!

Bjean: I believe I asked way back when about hiring just the MC without the DJ package and I got shut down or the price was crazy because I still had to rent the sound system for the $470.  With what they quoted me for just the MC it made sense to just do the whole pacakge.

As you guys know I was so anti the MC during the wedding planning (mostly because of the price) but it really did make a difference and it was one of the better decisions I made. It made a big difference in the flow of the night, his energy and added humor was a huge benefit. Not to mention it allowed everyone in the party to enjoy themselves without assiging tasks to people and having to worry about making annoucnements and so on.

Another decision that was THE best decision I made was bringing our own photographer! Again during the planning process I was pretty anti Tropical Pictures but over the last few months they did step up their game. No pun intended to those whom are using them however for less than what most spent with TP I hired a local photographer and she covered the entire week! Amazing candid just random shots. She just put together a slideshow that I will show on Saturday durng our local reception but wanted to share it with you guys because there are so many great shots of so many areas of the resort including reception and beach. Added note we did use TP for the video services ($1200) and another great investment. Just to relive the day and hear your vows and see tears falling...sigh...just something about the real moment aspect of the video. Its like 40 minutes so I will try and upload it to utube soon for you all to see the quality. Anyway LOL I think I am done with my ramble!

    Happy Planning chickys!!

  7. We are having our AHR in 2 weeks which was exactly one month from the day we left for our DW.

    1. Our budget for the venue is $5500 that includes buffett and open bar top shelf for $100 people.
    2. We are having a DJ and an MC that my dad fit the bill for.
    3. I am wearing my wedding dress again and my husband and son will be wearing blk suits since their wedding suits were linen.
    4. We sent out formal invitations a few weeks before we left for the DW
    5. We hired a local friend whom is charging us $300 for photography services.
    6. We are having a 3 tier canoli cake that I am super excited about, cost $295
    7. Decor is simple, floral/ tropical centerpieces $35 each with colored turqouse linen napkins and probably throw some shells and stuff on the linens for extra decor.
    8. We hired a videogrpaher for our DW and he did a great job.  We also hired a A/V person that is coming with a big screen projector that will play the wedding video during dinner hour. Then our DW photographer put together a slide show of the top 150 pictures from the week we were away and that will get played intermittently throughtout the night.

Everything is done with the exception of seating and place cards. If I had to give one bit of advice though I would def say give yourself some time before your AHR. I feel like 2 1/2 weeks after we got back is way to soon. I def cut it too close and felt a bit stressed since I was so focused with the DW that I let things fall through the cracks. I just ordered the cake and flowers this week. Oh and if your wearing your dress again be sure to allow time for cleaning. Mine is taking 2 weeks and barely made it for the AHR. Good luck everyone!

  8. They were such a good buy! And looked as if they were glass, umm I wanna say they were like $12 each. The shells I used were like $8 a bag of assorted shells with a coupon at michaels they were prob closer to $5 a bag and I had 2 bags of starfish again just a few dollars and I got those from the Christmas Tree shop. I bought one bouquet of lilies from Michaels and picked off the individual flowers that I used inside the bowls. The bouquet was about $10 and I brought 2 but never used the other one. In total the centerpieces prob cost me $15 a table roughly and thats generous. Keep in mind these are similar to the centerpieces the resort charges $60 per table!

I am having our at home reception for 100 people on 6/15 so after that I will post all the wedding stuff for the next bride to use. I will be sure to post the ad in this forum before I post under the for sale thread.

  9. A quick shot of the table decor at the reception. The votives were a nice touch, I bought regular votives from the dollar store and found an amazing etsy seller who sells votive wraps in a zillion different colors and prints. I just wrapped the orange wraps around the votives for an extra splash of color

I'm still trying to dig up so good shots of Bar Higuey, keep ya posted

  10. Miss Jali thanks chicky! If possible I would def designate someone to fill em and then cart them back up the wedding office.

    Questions:

    1. Did you bring your own table cloths as well as the napkins? If so, where did you get them from? I only brought my napkins with me since the linens they had matched my blue perfectly. I actually brought the napkins new from a past bride that never used them after deciding to change her colors.

    2. Did you feel the need to have your phone turned on in case guests who didn't travel with you called? My FI is bugging me on this and we still have 9 months to go! Well I will say that for us we kept the phones on airplane mode nearly the entire time b/c AT&T charges for incoming calls even if you dont answer them. We did however have to use our phones and since we didnt add the int'l plan the charges were ridiculous! It cant hurt to add the feature at the very least it costs roughly $20 if you dont use it. AT&T allows for free incoming text messages so for those who stayed at home we advised if they needed to reach us text us and if need be we can call them back. We split the internet daily fee with other family members since you can have 2 people share the code and it costs $6.00 each per day. We communicated with many via email.

    3. How did the airport transfers fare up? Any complaints from your guests? Did the majority of your guests arrive on the same day? The airport transfers were perfect! I would highly recommend Dominican Airport Transfers (DAT). We had no complaints, everything worked out like a charm and their prices were unbeatable! I would use them for big groups of atleast 4 people. I paid $40 one way for up to 5 pax, however if you have 2 pax its still $40. So for groups of 2 I arranged through the resort for $15 per person. Since we covered everyones airport transfers to and from I had a running spreadsheet of everyones arrival and departure times and grouped the pick ups. Luckily many arrived on differnt airlines but within minutes apart so it really worked out!

    4. How did you get the welcome bags to everyone? We handed everyones welcome bag out to them on Thursday night at the welcome party that we had at the sports bar, Strikers.

    * * FYI Girls I made an amazing contact while at BBPD. His name is Sydney and he handles excursions and also works for DAT (airport transfers). He went out of his way to accomodate our group and got us discounts on tons of excursions.  He checked all my flights to make sure everyone was arriving on time and departing on time. He really was awesome! If you guys are planning excursions I would say to wait until you get there becuase you can def price negotiate if you have a group. LMK if you want his info!

Oh and one more thing before I forget. Many guests were looking for shopping like those outdoor flea markets or bazars, the resort is sooo expensive. They charged a guest $27 for a bottle of sunscreen and $24 for bug spray. Anyway if you walk to the end of the beach there is just that an outdoor shopping area, its about 10 minutes down the beach. There was a lil kid selling peanuts or something and one of our guests took out a $10 to give him a few dollars and he grabbed it out of her hand and took off with it. Just to keep that in mind, this was the only thing that happened that was even remotely "dangerous" but to be aware.

  11. Thanks Katty!

    1. Did you check out the kids club at all?  I keep hearing about a $10 for a "water park" do you know anything about that? As I mentioned they charge $20 per day for the pirates water park, however you can use a voucher and get it for $10 a day. Honestly this is one of 3 waterparks/areas of course its the biggest but the other 2 were also really good and served the purpose. The kids 2, 3 & 5 years old loved the free water parks and didnt know the difference. If there was no other option for the kids in terms of water parks then I would say splurge on the passes but considering they can have a similar experience for free save your money. The kids club is sooo cute and has tons of things for them to do, mini golf, a club, arcade, they do activities with the kids, I mean the whole nine yards. Kids I think 3-12 are under the supervision of the kids club crew and they take them all around the resort and do dance lessons and balloon animals, they even make jewelry! This was big reason why we chose this resort b/c its sooo kid friendly, having stayed there with children it def exceeded my expectations in terms of the activities for kids.

    2. Did you get to check out the disco at all? Did I?! LOL it was our stomping ground nearly every night. Our entire reception headed to the disco afterwards and we partied to the wee hours. It closed at 3 am if I am not mistaking. The tangerine package comes with VIP access for the bride and groom but we never used it since it was only for us. We just stayed in the main area with our guests. The music is a wiiiide range of everything, of course somethings better than others but its a lot of fun. And strikers is right outside the club so you leave at any time and grab some munchies. =)

    3. Did they charge you extra for the group dinner at Japanese restuarant? We didnt have a "group dinner" at the Japanese restaurant because our group was too big. We ate there and we were a party of 14 and no we didnt pay extra. Loved the hibachi it was so much fun and the cooks rocked! I think they can accomodate up to 15 per hibachi table.

    4. Where did you get those bowls for centerpieces? I had 7 tables of 6 and I got the bowls from Walmart online. They were plastic and perfect to travel with. I brought most of my stuff back with me and will post it on here. Mostly on principle because they wanted to charge me $60 per table for the fishbowl centerpieces. No way was I gonna leave them so they can extort the next bride, f*k that LOL.

    5. Do you happen to have Marlene's email address? Marlene Rejon [email protected]
