  3. We used Cherise and loved her!  We were married in Makena Maui on Maluaka Beach.  We were the only other ones on that beach (except for a sweet Speedo-wearing old couple).  It was just the two of us, so I can't help that much with other venues.  Cherise really does have great ideas and it awesome at staying in your budget.  Have you asked her for her opinions?  She really made our wedding planning easy.

    Best wishes!

  4. We thought it was hilarious, and our photographer moved us apart a bit so that she could get a good shot of him.  We weren't actually getting married here, just taking pics prior to our ceremony.  It made us both laugh.  I think it's a great reminder of how you have to "go with the flow" when having a beach wedding.  He, in all of his glory, was just as happy to be on that beach as we were:)

  5. Hi ladies:)  I'd love to recommend the coordinator we used in April for our wedding, Cherise with The Perfect Wedding Maui.  She was very prompt in her communications and was great at giving suggestions when asked while also respecting our wishes.  We were quite pleased with her work, and she was relatively inexpensive (which seemed to be a rare occasion on Maui...ha!).  Her facebook is: http://www.facebook.com/ThePerfectWeddingMaui  and her website is: http://www.theperfectweddingmaui.com/  I was referred to Cherise through another BDW bride who had used her and was as pleased as my husband and I.  Best wishes ladies and please PM me if you have any questions or I can be of any help!  You'll fall in love with Maui.

  6. It's definitely a possibility.  We were married 4/11/11 and had our AHR 4/30/11.  In fact, our video was in hand from Maui 10 days after our wedding.  Just ask your videographer before you sign a contract if he had put a rush on it.

  7. Mocha!! I just realized that I never replied to this!  I make them up to a day in advance.  They can be stored in the fridge.  The recipe is this:  For each large Hershey's chocoalt bar (the big ones in the candy sections), you will need one tablespoon of Crisco.  Break up the individual rectangles of chocolate and put them in the microwave with the Crisco.  Stir it every 30 seconds until fully melted.  So.  Good.  I also roll my strawberries after they're coated in the chocolate in coconut and/or crushed nuts for added fun.  These are a huge hit when I make them for showers and parties.  I hope you enjoysmile159.gif

Kinda freaking out about my AHR also. It's July 2nd, we have 130 people coming and I feel like I haven't done anything yet and I am just counting on all the stuff I had down south and I am going to try and make the decorations work there but I won't end up having the same centerpieces on every table. Do you think that is bad?

I am supposed to have my professional pics tomorrow but I think he is going to be late which will leave me no time to develop or make a photobook and I am freaking out about this a bit. I may have to use guest pics ughhhh

Greece sounds amazing.  I sent you a FB request too so I can see these pics:)  What a fabulous place to celebrate a Bday!  I'm sorry you're also freaking out about AHR stuff.  No, I don't think it's bad to not have the same centerpieces on every table...in fact, NONE of mine matched!  Just go with it:)  Did you get your pics from your photog?!?

Erin, I'm sorry you've been sick!  I also have been a complete slacker and PROMISE to get those "l-o-v-e" plates weighed and pm you before this weekend.  Thanks for your patience:)  I've been enjoying not doing anything wedding related....apparently a little too much;)

Ours is too.... mostly because I had a mental breakdown on Saturday morning and freaked out at my hubby because this AHR is in his hometown. I don't know 3/4 of the people going, and the 1/4 that is going I mostly don't like!! He hasn't once asked what needed to be done or if he could help and has no clue what is happening with it. There was just so much left to do and I was completely overwhelmed... so ya... I lost it. He was awesome though and sprang right into action getting things done. Right now he is en route to the cupcake store to drop off a swatch so they can match the icing!

For ladies looking for ways to display some sweets I found some awesome vintage plates and candle holders at Value Village that I'm gluing together to make cake stands (or in this case macron stands) Then I made a cupcake stand out of cardboard cake rounds, painted cans and vinyl drawer paper that matches the exact patterns on the escort cards! The place cards are actually mini flags that will be stuck into a mini galvanized pail filled with wrapped blue salt water taffy. Lots of sugar for a brunch but we purchased cupcake boxes from the cupcake place so people can take it all home.

I also made buntings out of rectangle lace paper doilies and blue ribbon that I can swag across the tent ceiling and ordered a printable guest book "tree" poster that people put their finger print "leaves" on out of ink. It was awesome actually. A girl on Etsy designed it for me, I sent the file to staples and it came out perfect. The whole guest book design and printing was less than $20!

Sorry about the info dump, the AHR is on Saturday so I'm just so anxious to get it all together!

How'd it go Meggers?!?  Great idea about the vintage plates!!

Now to start baking stuff for the freezer and deciding what other sweet and/or savory items to include. Since we are expecting about 70 people, I think I would like to have 10 different items. Here's my list so far if anyone has suggestions:

    1. Cupcakes
    2. Cake Balls
    3. Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
    4. Kettle Style Popcorn
    5. Homemade Marshmallows
    6. Macarons

What about chocolate covered strawberries?  I love those.  And I have a SUPER easy recipe to make them if you want it!!

We did a lot of talk/planning for our AHR yesterday and I feel a bit better now.

We got to go look at the hall again as it was all set up for an afternoon wedding.  They only had a setup for 60 people (we're going to end up somewhere close to 80) so it was nice to see that it didn't actually look to bad in the big room.  We're just going to spread things out by putting only 6 people per table.

As for centerpieces, we did find some vases at dollarama which we're going to go back to purchase.  Then we're thinking putting a layer of sand, some seashells and floating a large flower in them... maybe a green chrysanthemums perhaps?

    1275820293Tc8IsJ.jpg

I also bought some frames at dollarama (i think they're the same ones you got mocha) which we're going to use for the table numbers.  We didn't originally plan on doing a seating chart, but after discussing it, figured it would make things easier the day of.  I got some turquoise spray paint at michaels for the frames and for the numbers, I plan on just picking different photos from our trip/wedding and incorporating the number into them on photoshop.  And to finish up the tables, my mom and I found some sparkly turquoise jewel/stones which we'll sprinkle on the tables.  We're also going to have white chair covers just to keep things clean looking.

As for a cake, I've decided that I will make chocolate cupcakes and frost some in white butter cream and some in turquoise butter cream.  I found a wicked piece at Home Sense yesterday which I'm going to use as a cupcake stand, along with a few other cake stands and trays.  MIL also has some really cool conk shells and other big shells which we'll use to decorate the cake table and other areas.

We still have a lot to figure out, but with less than 2 weeks to go, I'm glad it's finally starting to come together a bit better.  It's going to be such a busy few weeks though. Can't wait till it's done and we can relax!!

Wow Laura, you've been a DIY queen for your AHR!  Please share some pics when you can!  And yes, it's so nice to unwind and relax once your AHR is over!!

Which of you girls got married at Now Jade?  I have a friend getting married there in November and couldn't remember which one of us April girls it was.  I hope you all are having a nice day!  It's 100 degrees here today.....and living in the midwest means I'm way to far from the ocean to enjoy it.

  9. Thanks for posting these links!! We just got our license from Maui yesterday, nearly 2 months after we were married, so getting all of this done tomorrow is on my agenda.  Ugh.

For some reason, I haven't been able to post any comments lately - I've been wanting to tell you all that everyone's pictures are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I think April brides took DWs to another level:)

And exciting news for me - we finally got ours back from our photographers, that felt like the longest wait ever!! :)

I've posted the slideshow that they made us in another thread (hopefully the link works):

Great pics!!  Loved your hair, FI's purple bow tie, the funny pics of you two in glasses, and the pic with the guy wearing the rastarian wig.  LOL!  You were a beautiful bride:)

  11. Hi!  I was just married on Maui 4/11/11 and LOVED our coordinator.  While we weren't married at Olowalu Plantation, I'm certain Cherise would work wonders.  We used Cherise Shulman with The Perfect Wedding.  She was super cheap ($500....which was way below what most other coordinators I contacted wanted), very responsive to my questions, and made planning our wedding from some far away really easy.  I can't recommend her highly enough!  She helped me pick our flowers, officiant, musician, videographer, limo service, and our beach location.  We were very happy with the choices we made.  Please PM me if you have any questions about her as I'd love to help.

If you'd like to know about any of the other vendors I used, please PM me.  I had such a great experience.

You'll love Maui.  It really is paradise:) Congratulations!

  12. Yes it has been quiet!!  Not going to lie though, it has been nice to take a break from all things wedding.rolleyes.gif

I'm glad you posted about pics because I'm starting to wonder what to do with ours.  Both our Maui and home photographers gave us discs and full rights to our prints.  I'm not sure how I want to display my pics.  Have you seen any image wrapped pics?

I cant remember who asked me about the adoramapix, but I received our prints the other day and they turned out AMAZING!! I will def be ordering my enlargements from them, the metallic prints are unbelievable! They are so neat looking and they almost have like a 3D look to them and it really makes the colors of the beach pop!  And the lustre prints are great for the photos too, they have a nice soft look to them.

I just ordered a photobook from them today too for my mom, they are 20% off right now, until tomorrow.

  13. Congrats and welcome! I was recently married in Maui (on the beach, not at Merriman's) but would love to share any of my vendor experiences with you. i loved my whole team. Please PM me if I can be of any help. You'll love Maui....it really is paradise.

  14. Tisha and Mocha- GORGEOUS pics!!

I can't remember who made the "pulling the goalie" comment but it cracked me up! My DH asked when we were going to do that the other day, and my first thought after I laughed was, "must we relate everything to sports?!?" Ha ha!! We're definitely not TTC yet. Life needs to slow down a bit first:)

For those of you asking about the candy buffet, we did one for our AHR and it was super popular. We had a traditional cake as well, but it was strawberry and pineapple flavored. We also had cake balls in 3 flavors on the candy buffet. We bought little Chinese take out boxes and put stickers on them thanking our guests for coming. We had very little candy left surprisingly. Here are pics of ours:
