  1. I bought and had my dress altered at Bridal Debut and my seamstress was Manal - she also has her own business.  She did an amazing job with my dress which she had to take in a lot - it was also a challenging dress to work with.  I am sure you could ask for her at the south store in edmonton and get her own place - likely cheaper!

  2. Good luck - I leave on Sunday and am getting married on the 8th as well - now at Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda.  I hope you have a wonderful wedding and holiday!!

Still have programs to do (WC won't get back to me to confirm my timeline... ARG!), welcome letters for the OOT bags, and table numbers. Other than that it is pretty much just my own personal preparation (getting my hair done tonight, want to go for a facial and a couple more tans...) and packing. Oh and I have a final exam in my advanced stats class tomorrow night - fun, lol.

  3. I was moved over to the Blue Bay esmerelda last week - my wedding is on the 8th and I am so relieved that I have.  My guests are relieved as well.  We were originally going to stay at the riviera, then the sunset and they our tour operator wasn't thrilled with keeping us there, so we moved and got money back as we couldn't get the same level of suite.  We will try to upgrade when we get there.  We are working with Sandra - my coordinator that was at the Riviera - I think the whole team went over.  The wedding will cost a bit more, but I think the size of the resort will work better for us and I am so happy not be on pins and needles waiting to hear another report on the news about where we are staying.

good luck to all that stay and those who switch, it was definitley a challenging couple of weeks, but I am confident it will all work out and we are still getting married in an amazing place, sun, sand, friends and family and the one I love!!

  4. I love your perspective and congratulations.  I am also a Grand Riviera Princess former bride and have just switched after several back and forth changes and suggestions.  I actually had to do a bit of investigating myself and BDW was what cued me to the Blue Bay Grand - which is where we will be having our wedding is 2 weeks.  Goodness... my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones.  We had looked into that week as well.  I had been working with Sandra the wc from the GRP previously and wondered why she had stopped answering my emails, apparently she is here.  I actually getting excited again and am hoping that the BBGE will be even better than our original choice (although I am sad that we won't be getting married in the gazebo - the whole reason we chose the GRP...

My broken leg groom and the explosion tragedy are good reminders about expectations and the actual goal.  But I do hope it will be amazing for our guests and ourselves....

  5. Hi Melanie,

I am wondering if you could tell me the size of your group.  We are leaving on the 5th and had originally thought we would move to the Sunset side, but now our agent would have our whole group sign an waiver - which I haven't seen yet.  She has offered the Bahia Principe which I am not a fan of and worse the Rui Tequila.  These just seem very different quality than what we paid for.  I am  really trying to maintain my perspective and have been positive since the incident but my nerves are cracking a little.  This was supposed to be less stessful ...

Our agent keeps saying that it is a big group - that is the challenge.... we have (well originally  35 and now 30 - some people have cancelled....

So we had originally planned to stay at the Riviera as we leave on Nov.28 (this Sunday), with a wedding date of Dec.03. The  news that the Riviera closed on Sunday hit me like a ton of bricks. We had originally expected to be moved to the Sunset but Air Canada Vacations did not want to move us there  and I read that Sunwing bought up 425 rooms at the Sunset right now. So I spent two agonizing days wondering if we were going to be cancelled outright, if i would even be able to have a wedding, much less on Dec.03.

Today, we found out that ACV is moving us to the Azul Fives Resort, also right by Playa. This is a new resort and part of the Karisma line of hotels. It is a step up from the Riviera and our guests will not have to pay any extra for this. And - they have my wedding date available. So we're both just thrilled.

For those that are at the Sunset or waiting to see what happens at the Riviera because you have more time than less than a week - I'm sure the Sunset will be wonderful and from all the great reviews about both resorts, i do hope that the Riviera reopens safer than ever because it is beautiful.

  6.  I completely emapathize!!

I am or was supposed to be getting married at Grand Riviera Princess on Decmeber 8 - 3 weeks from today and we leave on the 5th....to top that our travel agent is away til the 21st. Fortunately there is another wedding specialist in the office.  We are likely moving our wedding and group to the Sunset side of the resort, therefore have the same wedding package, rooms, restaurants, etc.

I also am the bride with a hopalong groom - broke his leg 3 weeks ago...

perspective is important to me. We are thankful that we weren't there when it happened (we had looked at that week...)  We have faith that all will work out!  Apparently the resort is stilll functioning, but since we were in the platinum suites we are trying to move.

My brother had his wedding at the bahia principe 5 years ago - today and a friend had hers there last year.  They really liked it.  It is one of the furthest resorts from cancun - but it was beautiful.  I hope it works out for your too.

  7. I actually asked my wedding coordinator at the resort and paying her to do so.  She offered to pick some up for us - 40 - she offered to do so without a fee.  I am not sure what I should bring for her as a gift.  We will also be giving her a cash tip as well. Any suggestions. It is such a help. I thought about ordering and buying them ourselves in Playa - but this will be such a time saver!!

  8. I can't believe my wedding is less than a month away.  I was so excited and then my groom broke his leg... badly!!  We are still going, but our vacation will look different.  Trying to keep perspective.  Everyone comments on the pictures.  We are sad about the first dance, but mostly I am sad that my very active, fireman groom is going to have to do so little.  We think he might be able to snorkel, our fingers are crossed.  But he is not one that is ok with lounging in the sun with a drink....  He is cranky and pessimistic right now, which has been difficult...

  9. He was also recommended to me as well and my wedding is in December. I had chatted with him when we first booked our destination wedding in March or April and I am hoping that we are fine for it as well.  He has a few packages and the website is pretty informative.  There is also a list of marriage commisionnaires as a link in the links section of his website just in case.

    Best of luck!!

  10. I went to a few locations - including both bridal debut locations (where I bought my dress this week) I recommend trying on a lot of styles to get a sense of what the dresses look like on you - I chose a slimmer style which I thought wouldn't look good with my curvy figure ( and larger hips that I never appreciate). Can't believe the fit and flare was for me.

I loved bridal debut and almost bought a dress there - the owners were great! I also tried abc weddings. definitely not as sophisticated a store, but the dresses are still great there.

    good luck.
