Welcome and Congratulations! I am getting married on the 15th of April. It is coming up fast. I am getting really excited!
-
The beds are a little hard for me, but I was never uncomfortable. The restaurants would be closed, but they are both more open than the foyer area. For instance, Agave's courtyard is on a main walkway of the resort. There is really nothing stopping anyone from joining your party, theoretically. All will be beautiful spaces and I am sure that the other resort patrons will respect your privacy.

Have you seen the pictures from BeachGirl@heart? She had her reception at Agave, in the courtyard. It was absolutely beautiful. I am also getting married on a Friday and am considering either the Lobster House or Agave instead of the foyer. The foyer is more private than the restaurants and still overlooks the ocean. The lighting in the foyer is really pretty, too. It will be a tough decision for sure.

I have not been there since April '09, but both my fiance and I thought it was beautiful. I can see where other travelers might say that it seems outdated, though. Many of the resorts in this area are very sleek and modern. This resort has a Mayan inspired theme and atmosphere. This type of decor lends itself to being a little rustic you could say. Also because of this it does not have the trendiest look. It is still a five star luxury resort, though (4 1/2 I think.) The last time I was there, the grounds were very manicured with beautiful flowers blooming and little gardens everywhere. The rooms and other facilities are very well maintained. The restaurants are all pretty upscale. Maybe I am easily impressed, but I love this resort and think it is absolutely beautiful. If you are looking for that sleek look, the Excellence Playa Mujeres definitley has a more modern feel. It is only thirty minutes north of the ERC. I hope this helps.

The dress code is not too strictly enforced. The last time we were there people were wearing nice jeans and dress shirts or a nice afternoon outfit to dinner. The staff is just so gracious and courteous too that it would have to be a really bad violation of dress code in order for them to say anything, I think. I am a bit of a fashion snob, so I would say that people were still casually dressed. Just be respectful when picking out your outfits and you will be fine. Dress shorts and a dress top will be fine, even if it is technically a tank style. The restaurants are usually open until nine, some later, the bars are open until eleven. Depending on the number of people present, there are two clubs open until one in the morning. They will close earlier if there are not that many people in the room.

Does anyone know where I need to get an apostille letter from? I know that it is issued by the secretary of state, but I do not know if if can be obtained from the state I live in or the state I was born in. Though I think there are only two of us having a legal ceremony as of now.

I read on Tripadvisor was very positive, especially about Ramon. It was a few weeks ago though. He has been very helpful to me so far and responds in a very timely manner. Especially considering that April through July are the busiest months for him as well I have nothing but positive thins to say about Ramon. i understand your concern and frustration. I am sure everything will be fine. Just remember that you are marrying the love of your life and nothing will be able to tarnish your day. -

I thought it would be cool to have a welcome dinner in one of the tempanyaki roooms at Spice. I am not sure how many people can fit in one room though.

Congratulations to both couples recently married! I do have a few questions. What type of dress did you each wear? Was it too hot for the beach? I have just purchased my gown and am considering making alterations to it to make it lighter, but I am not sure if it will be neccessary.

I had some initial problems with Ramon while trying to book our date. It was very frustrating to the extent that we thought we might have to decide on another resort. However, once everything was figured out, Ramon has been great and very sympathetic to my panic. I feel very at ease with him.
To those of you gettin gmarried in the next few weeks: Congratulations!! Don't worry. I am sure Ramon will take care of everything. Besides, it will be so wonderful, that none of the mishaps will be memorable.
Much love to you all!!

Congratulations to you!! That is so exciting. Thank you for the vendor tips. I am debating the DJ issue. We are worried that if our group is small, then a DJ would be overkill. However, I am not sure that I want to have to worry about controlling an ipod.
Will you be posting a review and perhaps some pictures when you return home

The symbolic Vs. legal ceremony is the big question still. Is anyone having a legal ceremony? I want ot have a legal ceremony, just to save all the excitement for that moment. FI wants a symbolic ceremony just because it seems to be the easier option. Any thoughts?

I am so upset!! My wedding date is not available at our selected resort. We tried several times over the past year to reserve the date and were always told that we would have to wait until at least a year before the event. I tried one last time to book thinking that i would again be told to wait. Now the day is completely full. To make matters worse there are no days close to this date available. ARGH!!!
Hopefully, this will be the first and last mishap.

Hi Everyone!! My fiance and I are actually getting married at the other excellence resort in Mexico the Riviera Cancun. We were thinking about "honeymooning" at the Playa Mujeres resort, but my fiance does not know if he wants to deal with the hassle of packing up everything and moving to another location in the middle of our vacation. We have never been to the EPM so it is hard to know if it will be worth it. We were hoping to stay in one of the oceanfront rooftop terrace suites if we do move locations. Does anyone have any experience that they could share to help me with my decision? anything about the resort and/or if the rooftop terrace is worth it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!!

I am most worried about the translations and paperwork and the length of time and money it will take for all of this. However i really want the whole experience of walking down the aisle to him and saying our vows for the first time.

The requirements in Mexico vary by state and resort. Some websites have stated that bloodwork and x-rays are required for a legal wedding, however I have not found a resort that mentions the x-ray in its requirements. Most resorts require 3 days of residency before they will provide a legal ceremony, others ask for more. My resort, for example, requires bloodwork and three days residency. They will include the day of arrival in this residency as long as you arrive before noon. Most resorts do require four witnesses for the same duration as the couple's residency. The best way to get the facts is to have your travel agent contact the wedding coordinator at your resort or just send an email yourself. The resort has to provide this information to you if they offer legal ceremonies.

I am also on the weight loss band wagon. I only want to lose about 15-18 pounds, so hopefully it will not be that much of a struggle. Plus, if I lose a little weight before the dress shopping I can save some $$ in alterations

We have not been able to book yet. FI propsed to me on the pier at the ERC last spring. I got really excited after we decided on a date and contacted the WC as soon as we returned home. She told me that we would not be able to book until at least March. Since then, we have been told that May or June will be the earliest. My TA thinks that she will be able to persuade them to reserve our day at least in April. I am only worried that we will lose the photographer we have selected if we can not at least reserve our wedding date a year in advance.

I also suggest not to freak out. I am getting married at the ERC on April 15, 2011. I have also had good relations with Nayeli so far. There has been some confusion on price between Ramon and Nayeli, but I think I will be able to work everything out once I am there in person. I am also going to use someone else's advice and keep all of my emails from Nayeli.
I think it is also important to realize what is really important for you for your wedding and focus on those things. I have not done a site visit, but I have vacationed at the ERC twice in the past few years. I have never had any slight experience that would even remotely make me worried that they will not take care of my wedding day very professionally and it will be a wonderful day that I wil cherish forever.
