  1. thanks for all the info! im really looking forward to the boat ride! flori said we can pay the balance in american dollars or travelers check. I think the US money is better because you have to pay an extra percentage for the travelers checks. the only issue with cash is if you really want to be carrying that much money around with you....

we leave like midday on the 25th. I got a spraytan today! I am a ghostly white new yorker so i barely recognize myself! haha

  2. so back to Barcaza brides.... we are doing a day excursion with them and have been in contact with flori. Since we are just booking now, and dont really have time for the wire transfer she is going to meet us at dpc to give her payment in either travelers check, money order or DR money. Was this your experience / process as well. It sounds kind of fishy and we dont want to get ripped off because we would have no recourse but maybe thats just how its done. and i'm just worrying about everything! thanks!

Erin - we leave sunday the 25th! what time do you get in?

  3. hey! so for everyone thats making their own centerpieces - how are you getting everything down there? are you going to attempt to ship? i was a little weary of the option because nothing is really guaranteed to arrive....

we leave this sunday! i'm getting sooo nervous, especially since the weather says there is a chance for rain. Hopefully it will just be quick showers and not last the whole day. i've been packing and my suitcases are overflowing, i have a huge bag of just favors so atleast i wont have to bring that back with me. My bridesmaid is bringing my centerpieces so atleast that's one thing i wont hvae to carry. so happy american airlines lets you check 2 bags for free on international flights!

I've been having tons of dreams just about being in the DR but I have had a couple nightmares!
-we went through the WHOLE wedding w/out the photographer! And afterwards I was running around like a MADWOMAN trying to find out where he is. lol.

SO just an update on my Deyanira email dillemma, its been 2 months, multiple emails & no response. what would u girls do? the only thing reassuring to me is that she charged by card for the deposit in the middle of all this no responding. I guess I'll send her ANOTHER email asking about the legal ceremony stuff but I feel like its a waste of time!

Cruz- How are you having to civil ceremonies? is that possible? lol.
jennifer - deyanira really doesn't respond until your wedding day is approaching. atleast that was my experience. it's totally frusturating but they do so many weddings there thats just how it is....
  5. Do you know how far in advance you booked? I think I booked my in July 09, so I don't know if they will honor it but I'll see about having my girl look at it. I'm kind of annoyed by the price change to but since I'm doing the ultimate that one really didn't change too much.

I was thinking about putting my favors in the welcome totes, along with the other welcome gifts. I like the winestopper idea as well.Do you think that's ok? I just didnt know if people are going to want to carry another thing after the reception. My totes include custom coozies, magnetic picture frames, gum, personalized chapstick and sunscreen, trail mix, granola bars, wine stoppers, fancy soap, cookie cutters. I think thats it so far.... I think I am going overboard with items for the bags but oh well, its fun to buy stuff!

Also, I'm bringing my daughter who will be 18 months and I'm definitely bringing a car seat - I know she is a bit younger then the other kids you guys have been mentioning but I've heard the ride in from the airport is really rough and bumpy. And we also need the carseat for the drive to the airport un nyc

  6. We were thinking about doing a bonfire as well. It's just sort of annoying that you hvae to pay extra for the bar setup and everything if you want that - but it's still on my mind. Considering the fire dancers too!

Erin - I got a email from Deyanira today too answering a few questions but it wasn't super comprehensive. Maybe I should email her again asking her what other lose ends or things I need to deal with since April 23 is just around the corner.

Has anyone had luck having an additional entree option for vegetarian guests?

  7. So I'm pretty braindead when it comes to decorations and everything so I thought you guys might be able to help. I purchased tulle today to make bows on the chairs. Is there anything that it needs to be used for? Also, is there anyway to know how much I need? I'm having 40 people at the wedding. Also, I'm doing the Ultimate package so does anyone know what exact decorations that includes? Thanks!

  8. We are staying at the resort from April21 -25, so hopefully we will get to meet! Our wedding is Friday at 4pm as well and I'm planning on doing a welcome event / cocktail party the night before. I really like the bonfire idea! I'm going to look into that as well and hopefully it wont be to hot since it will be night time. So far I hvae 30 booked but I'm thinking we will have a potential of 45 and I'm trying to decide on the terrace for the reception bordeaux or himitzu... thoughts??

Jocy, thank you so much for posting your photos and your very thorough review! I'm so happy that things went better than you'd hoped for, and you looked absolutely stunning in your photos! CONGRATULATIONS, MRS! :0) What did you choose for your wedding dinner?

I tried to upload the brochure that we made and mailed to our guests (it's not a welcome letter per se, but a compilation of resort information, helpful tidbits like what to pack, and the itinerary for the week as it stands now). Of course, I'm inept on this website, and my upload failed, so if anyone would like to see it, just let me know and give me your e-mail, I'd be more than happy to send it along!

In terms of a welcome vs. rehearsal dinner, we are doing a quick run through of the plan for the day with just the wedding party, so people know where they have to be, and then we were just doing a quick 1 hour cocktail hour the night before the wedding with everyone invited, but now that Jocy mentioned something about $10/person to do a dinner with a set menu on a terrace, we're wondering about that! I've never seen such a good price anywhere for an event like that at DPC?

So my wedding date is fast approaching, and I'm wondering if anyone else is getting married at DPC in April? I think Erin is the 28th, but other than that, I'm wondering if there are going to be any other BDW forum brides there while I am! :0)

    Tara

I would love to see what you made [email protected] and my wedding is April 23, 2010!
  10. Jocy your wedding pics are amazing!!! I'm so happy everything went well! I'm getting so excited for my wedding there in April! So few questions for you - Did you use the centerpieces from the resort? Also people mentioned its a good idea to bring table sashes because what they offer isn't the best. What did you think of them? I have a million more questions but can't think of anymore this minute.... thanks!!!
