We are leaving New Jersey on Saturday 11/22, will arrive at Tulum probably close to midnight. Would love to meet between 4/5 on Wednesday for a drink. Will not stay too long tough, because my mom and cousins arrive on that day from Argentina. But it would be nice to meet and get together for a chat. May be we could decide on a time and place to meet?
  2. I just saw this article, and almost had a heart attack... It is from yesterday.

Reading it very quickly it says that the environmental agency denies that it agreed to allow the resorts to re-open during the holiday season because "the law is clear", and that they only allowed the re-opening of 2 projects that have followed the law (Playa Condesa & Playa Esperanza). It does not look good...

I am yet to hear from the resort... Supposedly they had a 'big meeting' today, so we should get news soon... I am sooo stressed...

  3. Another article from “Noticaribe” dated Nov. 02 2008

Note: I am briefly translating the 1st paragraph only. Let’s hope the information is accurate, but we should still wait for the “official news” from DT…

‘The President of the Association of Hotels in Tulum, Jorge Portilla, informed that this Wednesday he will meet in the city of Mexico with the head of PROFEPA (the environmental agency) to analyze the files of the 14 hotels that have been closed in Tulum. He trusts that soon they will be allowed to operate in the high winter season’.

  4. QUICK ARTICLE TRANSLATION – ONLY WHAT I CONSIDER THE MOST IMPORTANT LINES:

In an article from “Noticaribe” newspaper DATED 10/31/08 (see link) they say that the city of Tulum has reached an agreement with the environmental agency to basically allow the resorts that have been closed down to re-open & work during the high winter season.

The resorts in return have to make sure they do not add (negatively) to the environmental impact (that they already inflicted).

They say, among other things, that the priority is to recover jobs that have been lost by the closures, which amount to bet / 1, 200-1,400.

*You are welcome to translate the entire article in google if you like (keeping in mind it might not be completely accurate). Sorry I am not translating the whole thing…

We may have our weddings at DT!!!

We arrive late in the evening on 11/22, and will stay until 12/06.
The original plans, before the resort closure, were to meet with Landy on Monday 11/24. I was also told by Anabel I think, to request for the florist to be there during the meeting, since I find it a bit difficult to decide on flowers based on the pictures sent. Now, We will have to see how things go...

  6. That offer to move a Dec. wedding to Puerto Aventura is very worrying...

I don't understand it either, and I don't believe anything until it is "100%" confirmed... But I am still hoepful that they will re-open soon...

Whenever I call DT and ask for Landy or Lisette, the only one that answers calls lately is Anabel. She works at the same office as Landy and Lisette, and is one of the assistants. Her e-mail is: [email protected]

Anabel seems to be the only person in that office now that the others are at other locations.

  7. Hi,

I talked to Anabel at DT today, and she said that even though they do not know for sure when they will re-open, they are pretty confident that they should be opening after Nov. 17th. She said they are moving weddings up to Nov. 17th now, and that there is 80% probability that they will re-open after the 17th. She asked me to call back on Thursday, and she should have an answer. Lets hope they know by Thursday!

We have 1 guest that didn't get book and I added him to the bottom of the form with a note by his name explaining we couldn't get his reservation booked due to the closure. The guest still isn't booked but I think at this point we have to wait until we get moved and then book.
I have not send the list of guests with their arrival dates yet. I have actually 4 guests (a couple from Argentina and a couple from the Netherlands) that would like to book teh rooms, but they are waiting to see what happens (they cannot book the rooms anyway now). So we are all waiting...

Where do you see rooms available? Because I checked at Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, and there was nothing available. Our travel agent at 'vacationsbyplaza' also checked, and saw nothing available. I just called 866-2DREAMS and was told that they cannot book rooms for the end of November and that I should check with the wedding coordinator. I asked Anabel about this last week, and she was not sure whether there aren't rooms available or it's just that the resort is not allowing to book until the issues are resolved. Please let me know if you have any other information. Thanks, B.
