  1. Hi all you lovely BDWers!!! My name is MarieSam and I joined BDW way back in 2007 (I think, geez I feel old because I can't remember but it has been a while!!!). I have no idea how I came across this site, but it was like a gift from God as I planned my destination wedding in Akumal, Mexico at the CEA Center on June 26, 2009. This is the best resource you will ever find for planning a DW, so embrace it and enjoy it because you just struck gold wink.gif

My husband and I and our 16-year old daughter live in Cerritos, CA, where I work as a full-time journalist. And if you can believe it, my husband and I are now wedding photographers too :) We were bitten by the bug and it feels so good woot.gif

Hope to meet some of you gals in the future!!!! I've already gotten the chance to meet Jamy and I totally <3 her!! love.gif

  2. Hi Melissa, welcome to the forum!!!

We had our wedding in Akumal not too too far from EDSS and the area is amazing!!! You are going to have a fabulous wedding with the help of all the ladies and tips on this forum ~ happy planning hug2.gif

  3. Welcome cocktails for a meet and greet or a welcome dinner is always a nice touch that your guests will truly appreciate. We did a Welcome Dinner the day before the wedding at the villa we were staying at and had a taco man along with mariachis for live music. It was AWESOME and we also got the chance to hand out our Welcome Bags to all our guests. cheesy.gif

Other than that, it's also a great idea to have a list of excursions you plan on doing so if they'd like to join, they have that option -- events like a beach day, trip into downtown, visiting a tourist attraction are awesome ideas!

  4. When I was getting married a year ago, my two main options were Cancun Wedding Videos and Playa Weddings. I ended up going with Playa Weddings because I liked the simplicity and cleanliness of their style and edits.

I can tell you that Playa Weddings was AWESOME!!!! We hired Paul for five hours and he ended up staying longer because our schedule was 1.5 hours behind. He was gracious, kind and so so talented! I have literally watched our video about 100+ times and I never get sick of it wink.gif My family has made it a point to play it for whomever comes to visit us, and yes it sometimes get's pretty embarrassing when my wedding video is used as "entertainment" for guests, lol.

Here's a link to our video if you'd like a peek: MarieSam & Tommy's Wedding Day Edit on Vimeo

But again, I totally recommend Playa Weddings!!!! You will not be disappointed rolleyes.gif

  5. I've been to Cancun/Riviera Maya in June, July and August. I can tell you, it always felt the same to me ... hot. But you are in a tropical paradise and heat will always be a factor rolleyes.gif The wonderful thing about hot weather in the Yucatan is that there are tons of beautiful beaches nearby, there's always a refreshing pool to jump into and of course man's best friend ... AC!!!

I got married in Akumal in June of 2010. It was hot, but my guests didn't complain a bit ~ they were all just grateful to be somewhere so beautiful and of course to be part of something special wink.gif

I say stick with your date. You're in a tropical paradise and just remind everyone to keep hydrated!!!!

  6. Hey lovely brides-to-be!!

I saw this interesting Forbes.com article on yahoo.com today, featuring 10 great wedding gowns for budget brides and they are beautiful! Further proof that you don't have to spend your life's savings to look fabulous on your Wedding Day!!! wink.gif

Hope this helps some of you ladies or at least brings you some wedding dress inspiration *hugs* :hugs2:

  7. We used DJ Bob when we had our wedding in Akumal. He was great and played everything we loved! My family is Filipino and my husband's is black, so we've got lots of dancers and party people in our group and the celebration was live from 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

He'll ask you for a small playlist to see what your taste is and go from there. He had all our guests dancing and even stayed 2 hours later than we booked him for because no one would leave wink.gif

Here's his website link if you're interested: Wedding DJ

Let him know MarieSam and Tommy sent you!!!

    Hope that helps cheers.gif

  8. I will be in the Dominican at the end of the month for the first time so I can't speak of its beauty YET, but I have been to Tulum and it's AMAZING!!! I got married in a town called Akumal, just 10 minutes from Tulum, so I'm a little biased wink.gif

No the sizes aren't adjustable, so you'd have to get a punch according to the exact size you want. But trust me, these are great tools to have and so useful for all kinds of DIY projects. It's a worthwhile investment!!!
