It sounds crazy, but I didn't pick the rehearsal dinner place until I got there.....I wanted to test it out first. So we checked out a few places and talked to a couple of managers....and voila....$750 for dinner, drinks, and desert for 30.....The Stoplight.....right next to El Squid Row and super casual!! But we had our tables right next to the sidewalk and the veiw of the Cabo nightlife was fantastic! The trick was to send out rehearsal invitations that invited people to meet us at the ceremony site and then said something like "dinner to follow"....Our WC just arrange taxis for us and away we went!

I opted out of the "resort setting" in exchange for a boutique hotel called Los Milagros. I used Patricia, an event manager from Lazy Gourmet Catering.....Completely reccomended!! Patricia was a great resource in helping me create an event that was as unique as the location and comletely understood I didn't want a "run of the mill" wedding. We married in a tiny park up on a hill and then paraded back to the hotel (accompanied by a trio, of course!) for the reception. The best thing about having our event at a boutique hotel, was that we were able to economically take over the entire place for a week so it felt very private ($1000/night for 12 rooms). We filled the place with our bridal party and it turned out to be a perfect alternative to the resorts. The price was right, and it was located right in the middle of old town Cabo, so getting around was a peice of cake. Should this be something you might consider, shoot an email to [email protected] tell her Kelly sent you!

I snatched up canvas tote bags to use for our "hotel bags"....I payed about $6 each....I googled "promotional bags" and found that buying in bulk proved to be much cheaper. I ordered them plain. Then I actually printed out a vintage postcard image of Mexico onto iron-on paper. I ironed the image onto the pocket and stitched a simple border around the edge. The result was great....I filled them with travel goodies and local maps that I snatched from realators once I got to Cabo. Something similar may work for you as well....You will save by buying in bulk, and then you could have them embroidered at one of those silly kiosks in the mall. Some of the promotional sites do offer embroidery, however, there are usally minimums so that min. won't work for personalizing with monograms.
Have fun!
