The Best Time of Day for a Beach Wedding Ceremony

The Best Time for Your Beach Wedding Ceremony

LL

I have been doing Weddings and Events for over seven years here in Cancun and the Riviera Maya and most Weddings are outside, whether it's a beach location, a cenote, or a luxury garden. So, having that in mind, finding the best time for your outside wedding is crucial!

Getting married on the beach may be a romantic way to start your new life. But the time for your ceremony in this location might represent some unique challenges. Here we’ll try to help you plan for your big day and start to think of some things you may not have considered yet:

Most couples get married a few hours before sunset.

I recommend scheduling your beach ceremony within an hour or so before sunset.

LL

Why?

Here’s some things you might consider:

Beautiful Photo Shoot:

Most ceremonies last about 20 minutes. We suggest you have your beach wedding scheduled 1 and a half hours before the sun disappears so you’ll have at least 1 hour left for your photo shoot before it gets dark.

Otherwise non welcome guests may show up…(mosquito time):

When it’s getting too dark, mosquitos can become a problem and you will end up with multiple bites. Some options to get rid of this unwelcome guest can be citronella candles or providing repellent to your guests. Stay away from ponds, lakes and mangroves because they are very tiny little bugs called CHAQUISTES that actually bite you!

So, it's as easy as that, keep in mind your photo session and how to get rid of the uninvited bugs during your ceremony and you will enjoy your moment just as you imagined!

P.S. Worried about rain? That is a whole different subject... Rainy season and dry season, plus the crazy rains that shows up without notice, so make sure you always have a plan B ready to go!

Throw me a question or a request, I will be more than happy to help you![/size]

We are scheduled to get married at noon in St. Lucia. We really wanted something later but they charge a fortune for twilight ceremonies. Are there ways to get around this?

Hello PattiR, weddings at noon are really nice, no mosquitos at all. But if your ceremony is going to be outdoors, it would be a great idea to ask for a canopy with a fabric on top so it gives you shade.

For bridesmaids, paper parasols look great, and dont forget to use make up base at least 50% SPF.

Best regards and good luck on your wedding.

Hi Saku, I am getting married in Playa Del Carmen in April at 6pm. Does that leave enough time before the sun sets? We are having the reception on the beach as well - do we have to be worried about bugs?

Thanks!

Hello Alanak, congratulations! April, 6pm, sounds like there is no problem. Summer time starts here in Mexico from April, so days are longer.

As for beach reception, bugs... well it all depends where exactly you are getting married. Have you picked your hotel or venue? if so, please let me know so I can give you more accurate info. Some hotels fumigate on your wedding day, but some not. Also, beach reception near a pond, lake or mangrove will come with little bugs no matter what, so make sure to have repelent for your guests.

Hello Tauru, 5pm sounds just fine, you will have plenty of time for before and after your ceremony. Just think about paddle fans or paper parasols for your guests, because May is one of the warmest months along the year!.

I am getting married in the Riviera Maya in June at 5pm. I've read that it is DARK right after 6pm, so I've requested the time to be moved to 4:00-4:30pm. Do you know what time is "sunset?" I am asking JUST in case we get started a little late and just for my own information.

Hello Island Barbie, in June days are getting longer in Cancun and Riviera Maya, although decent sun light will last until 6:30 or so. If you want your ceremony at Sunset during June, it would be better to move it a bit later. 4 to 4:30 pm is way to early. Sunset time is around 5 to 5:30.

Good luck with your wedding preps!

We have been given our ceremony time - 4:30pm. We are getting married in Punta Cana, DR on April 13,2013. Is that an appropriate time for the time of year and location?

Hi again Saku,

I am getting married at Playacar Palace - and like I said we are doing both the ceremony and reception on the beach. I hope I don't have to be worried about bugs! Thanks!

Hi Saku, I am getting married November 16, 2013 in Puerto Morelos (NOW Jade resort). We picked our wedding time as 4:00pm as I've heard the sun sets between 5:00 and 5:30pm... is that correct? I don't want it to be too dark hat we don't get pictures. Many thanks!

I am getting married November 9th at dreams cancun at sunset, will that be okay with pictures? or what time do you suggest that we do it?

Hello Bmelko and Lcrowley, in november sunset is around 5:30, so if you are thinking on having 1 hour photo session after the ceremony, probably by the end will be totally dark, so just keep that in mind for your photo session. Maybe if you move your ceremony half an hour earlier, it would be better.

Saku, what can you tell me about mosquitos and bugs at the following resorts:  NOW Sapphire in Puerto Morelos, Ocean Coral & Turquesa also in Puerto Morelos, and Paradisus La Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen?  We have narrowed our search to those 3 resorts.  We are doing site visits at each one next weekend.
