  1. Hi all, I just returned back to Canada last night after spending just over a week in Punta Cana for my wedding. So I thought I'd share my experience with you all. I had never been to Punta Cana before so I was unsure as what to expect and I was not disappointed. I had picked the Iberostar because we had stayed at one of their hotels in Jamaica a few years ago and the staff and the hotel was amazing so we based our decision on that. Once we arrived after 2 plane rides (one with 5 hour layover) and drove up to the hotel I was blown away. The hotel is absolutely stunning and actually looked just like the pictures. We went to check in and were told that we were upgraded to the Grand hotel ( which is only a 5 minute walk from where our guests were staying). The room was of course.... amazing and the staff was so welcoming and friendly. This hotel is huge not gonna lie BUT my guests loved that cause it gave them a lot to do and they were never bored. The beach was nice however, it had A LOT of seaweed which I guess isn't too uncommon from this time of year and it didn't stop anyone from swimming in the ocean. The wedding day was absolutely perfect.... I expected some stuff to go wrong but not a single thing did. I didn't hire any outside vendors, I used the photographer & Dj from the resort and they I'm glad I did. I got all my photos and I am so very happy with how they turned out. The DJ and MC were so fun and played all the songs that we requested. The MC was so funny and entertaining and everyone at the wedding had such a great time. If I could go back I wouldn't change a single thing we were happy with every decision we made. The wedding planner stuck around almost till the end to make sure everything went well. I had brought a ton of my own decor and they set it all up just how I asked them to. They decorated the reception just how I asked and I am soooo grateful for the hard work they put into ensuring my day was perfect. Happy planning!!! AND my advice is to enjoy EVERY single minute of it cause it's over before you know it. I've attached a few pics for you all to see Andrea
  2. awww thank you!!!! I just got back yesterday!!! I'll post a little something about it!
  3. Ya I've heard a lot of stories lately it's just discouraging cause we're spending a lot on the dresses alone! They tried to get my sis in law to go up a size and she fought them and sure enough the smaller size fit her perfectly! Well fingers crossed for you that it doesn't cost you and arm and a leg to alter!!!
  4. Thanks all! I will do just that! I did write a review on Facebook and the owner commented and basically said that they ordered the correct size and she understands that this is a stressful time! Which just rattles me and I'm a little insulted! Lol it is what it is and I won't let it get me down this close to my wedding. I will be helping my friend pay for the alterations $320 is just way too much! Thanks for the advice
  5. Hello all, I just wanted to share my experience at Cameo & Cufflinks in Calgary with you as I am just so so upset. We purchased 3 dresses there and we had issues over and over with them. Long story short they told one of the girls to go up a size cause her bust measured a size 16. We get the dress and she's swimming in it! The bust also had to be take in 2 inches!! The alterations are costing her MORE than what she paid for the actual dress. She tried to talk to the store and they kept saying it wasn't their fault and that the seamstress is probably over charging her. I was really upset and got on the phone and told her straight out that I was furious and asked her to explain to me that if her bust measured a size 16 why it has to be taken in 2 whole inches!! Her response was simply I don't know I don't have the dress here in front of me. Turns out I was speaking with the owner! She wasn't apologetic and didn't seem to care. I ended up hanging up on her as she was just talking over me. My wedding is 2 weeks away and I'm just stressed!! The dresses were not cheap and now there's an added cost of $320! The seamstress has to take in 2 inches at the bust, 3 at the waist and 4 off the bottom! Has anyone else experienced this?! So just beware if you are considering shopping there.
  6. Thank you for all the ideas! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I like the diy photo booth! My moh did that for my shower and it was a hit! I like the idea of games though!! I'll have to do some research! Thanks for the ideas!
  8. Hi all, My wedding is about 2 and a half months away and I'm just wondering of anyone has any ideas on how to keep the party going at the reception. I'm just worried people won't dance or they'll get bored so if anyone has some fun ideas that would be great. I was thinking of maybe bringing fun props or something. The resort does have a list of entertainment I can hire but it costs an arm and a leg! There will be a fun crowd going down so I'm not tooooo stressed about this but now that the wedding is right around the corner I'm starting to worry!!!
  9. Electricity fees! That's nuts! That's good that they didn't charge you!!! eBay sounds like a good idea! Thank you although every time I tell my fiancé that we'll be bringing this and that he gives me a look haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Ya my wedding is just over 2 months away but the resort changes extra if you want a colored tablecloth or ribbons on your chairs! Which is crazy to me! So I thought maybe it would be cheaper to bring my own..... What to do what to do lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I am a Calgary bride! What is this bridal swap exactly?!
  12. I lost my mom 18 years ago so I know how you feel. I think you should put the chair where YOU want to put it. It's your day and she's your mother. My mom died from breast cancer so in lieu of wedding favors I made a donation in her memory. The breast cancer society has a tie the knot program and gave me business size cards and pink ribbons for everyone. I hope everything turns out the way you want and that you have the best day! Our moms would want it that way
  13. I'm getting married at the iberostar bavaro in Punta Cana and they've given me a list of all of the extras and I haven't signed a contract yet. I would ask them again Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. @cablelove11- Well for me I love that fact that they only do 1 wedding a day and also it's not too far from the airport. We have to take 2 planes to get there and the last thing I want is to have to take a bus for another hour to get to the resort. I was at the Iberostar in Jamaica for a wedding back in 2011 and loved the resort so I kinda went with that. The prices are pretty good we have about 50 ppl booked so far!! I can PM you some pricing if you'd like!. @hardyali- I will PM you the price list right now. There are 3 packages we went with the Gold package and we are doing a private reception since we have so many people coming.
