  1. Just got back from Playacar and we had the most AMAZING time!!!! The wedding coordinator we worked with at the resort is seriously superwoman (I'm convinced she's the reason the rain held out until after the reception). Her name was Mara and anyone working with her in the future is certainly in capable hands! We had a few hang ups with spa appointments and such, but compared to how amazing our overall trip was, they seem insignificant in retrospect. This wedding has been a year in the planning with Playacar and I feel like I know that place inside and out by now. If anyone has any questions, my email address is dru.allison5@@gmail.com. Please feel free to ask! I also want to mention that we brought our own photographer with us for the trip but still got the hour long photo shoot that came with the wedding package. The photographer Julia that took those photos was so wonderful! She even worked well with the photographer that we had brought so all of the pictures from both of them are unreal. I would absolutely recommend their house photographers to anyone that is unsure. Such wonderful ladies!!!!
  2. Hey Ladies, I am scheduled to be married at Playacar Palace in July, 2014. I was having a really difficult time finding a photographer that felt right, as it turns out we have one in our wedding party so that worked out well but as for dj/lighting... that's becoming the final last detail I just can't seem to nail down. Any brides have any suggestions? We are having out reception on the deck that they have on the beach so I'm thinking I will need quite a bit of lighting... anyone have a reception in this area in the past or planning one in the future? Where is everyone else having their reception and what type of audio/visual package are you going with? Any other outside vendors or suppliers that you have tracked down and found useful? I appreciate any advice or info anyone cares to share! Thanks so much ladies
  3. I am not sure about steamers but my mother use to be a flight attendant and has assured me that if we fly with it in a garment bag and let them know when we get on the airplane that they have a closet they can keep it in. Hope that helps, good luck
  4. What if there is already a photographer in your group? Will they still try to weasel the $800 out of you? It also looks like their DJs through JSAV are pretty expensive. I would love to just have a mix on an ipod and play it myself, what is everyone else's experience with their wedding music.
  5. Hi Ladies, I've posted on here before but am at a stopping point when it comes to photographer and dj. the only photographer attending my wedding is my maid of honor so I can't have her do it. I'm thinking I will need to go local. Any suggestions? Also wondering what buffet choices anyone that has been there before had and what they liked and didn't like about them. I am considering having my reception on the "deck" on the beach. Anyone have any words of wisdom regarding that? Thanks so much!
  6. Hi! I actually got an email from their wedding coordinator with all of that info. It's a pdf so I can't figure out how to add it on here. I can send it to you via email if you'd like though! I also went on a site inspection there last summer so I am pretty familiar with the wedding sites if you have any questions.
  7. So we are booked with our group rooms blocked out for our July 5th, 2014 wedding. We will be there from July 2nd to July 7th. Anyone else planning on staying there around these times? I've read a few comments about people having a party on the beach. How does that work with it being a public beach? How much do they charge and are you allowed to have a bonfire and music? I am working directly with the "sales" people over there although I haven't been directed to a "wedding coordinator" yet so I think quite a few things are literally getting lost in translation for me. Like the resort credits. Each guest receives them or do the resort credits go towards the wedding festivities? I was under the impression that the more people that show up, the more credits your whole wedding gets so the more parties and dinners you can throw. After reading this forum it doesn't sound like that is the case. I'm just confused! Thanks so much for the help and congrats on everyone's' big day!!!!!
  8. I just posted this in a different PP thread but think it might serve well here too... I just got back 3 days ago from my visit to the Riviera Maya to look for venues. I didn't have to look to far once I got there. We stayed at Playacar Palace and absolutely LOVED it!!! Their beach is just stunning and the customer service I received from everyone planning my trip out there and upon arrival was just outstanding. That being said, I looked at secrets and contacted other resorts, the lack of response and willingness to assist me without involving a travel agent had me already pretty annoyed by every other resort. I do not think 5 days to respond to an email is acceptable, and as it gets closer to the wedding date if that were to happen.. look out! But I digress. There is so much to do between Senor Frogs and 5th street at Playacar, I think everyone coming will have a blast. My only bit of advice I'm looking for from all of you ladies; I got to see a wedding while I was there and it was stunning. The only thing I didn't really care for were all of the people surrounding the wedding and gawking. I understand that since it is so public there is not much to be done and after seeing more resorts I also understand that its pretty much like that doing a wedding at any resort, but some of these people were REALLY close. Two young boys in bathing suits sitting right behind the chairs watching and talking, people behind the ceremony (between the ceremony and the water, kind of killing any ceremony pictures with the water in the background), people just on the beach that didn't seem to care what was going on (one oblivious girl even let her dog run wild). In between the bridesmaids walking down the stairs three girls in bikinis ran down the stairs. I definitely understand that this is a public beach and a crowded resort and I can't have it all to myself But I don't want random people in bathing suits in my pictures or kids in bathing suits walking ahead of me as I head down the isle. A girlfriend of mine suggested tiki torches with ribbon tying them together to kind of rope it off. Would this be allowed? Has anyone else done anything like this to rope off areas and is that allowed on public beaches? I think one of the ladies at the resorts was joking about hiring some family to muscle the beach for us during the ceremony haha and I wouldn't be opposed to that if we could do that... Maybe dress them up like federales and arm them with waterguns? Thanks all!!
  9. Oh my goodness that is steep for outsourcing for a DJ! Let me know how it works out for you and who you decide to use if you don't mind. I'm definitely torn on what I want to do in regards to music at the moment and am actually going so far as to make my own playlists. Good luck!!
