  1. Hello Ladies! I got married at the RIU MoBay in August 2013. My husband has family in Jamaica so we hired a local photographer who was known by his family and he was amazing!! The photographer was Jermaine (aka Flex) and has worked as a photographer at other hotels in the area. He took awesome pictures and all my guests loved him bc he was so personable, friendly and got everyone going. He edited some of our pictures and then put them and all the others on a USB key (which I gave him). When we returned home there was not much work to be done to them except to pick and choose which we liked the best (and that was difficult bc so many great shots) and get them printed . His price was very reasonable especially considering what the hotel wanted us to pay. He was with us from the morning all the way to the end!! Of course you will need to negotiate with him pricing bc I am sure it is different for what everyone wants. Please message me if you would like to see some of these great pictures or need more details or information about the photographer. Cheers, Lisa
  2. Hello All! I got married in August 2013 and used a local florist for my flowers and she did an absolutely beautiful job for half the price that Tai had quoted me. I sent her pictures of what I wanted and my colour theme and she did an amazing job!! My husband has family in JA (Montego Bay) so his sister found this florist for me and I am happy that she did. Her name is Mellissa and very nice. I ordered 5 bridemaid bouquets, my bouquet, 6 men's boutinneers (sp?), 6 centerpieces and it came to $600. Of course this all depends on the flowers you are chosing as well. I avoided the vendor fee by having my nephews and groom go to the front gates to pick up the order. We got married at the RIU MoBay so the gates are about 100 feet away from main reception so this made it easier. Her email address is below if anyone wants to reach her. Let her know that you got her name on the forum from a wedding she did in August just in case she wonders...LOL! gallerieofflowers@hotmail.com Let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to see pictures of our flowers. Cheers, Lisa
  3. Hello Ladies! I got married at the RIU MoBay in August 2013. It all turned out beautifully and my guest 49 + us loved it. We had the private reception ($1000) and even thought I complained about having to pay the extra money for it everyone loved it and it was fabulous! We hired a local photographer who was amazing!! Jermaine (aka Flex), took awesome pictures and all my guests loved him bc he was so personable, friendly and got everyone going. He edited some of my pictures and then put them and all the others on a USB key (which I gave him). When we returned home there was not much work to be done to them except to pick and choose which we liked the best (and that was difficult bc so many great shots) and get them printed . We also hired a local dj, Kevin aka Big Red (not the hotel one) who we paid $500 (+$150 I believe for the vendor fee which I think is BS). He played during dinner (and we danced a little) and then for 2 hours after dinner and everyone danced and had an amazing time! The hotel wanted $600-$650 for the dj to play from 8:30-10:30 which we were willing to pay but then they wanted us to pay $400 to rent the equipment fo rthe 2 hours during dinner so that we could play our own music. Thought this was shady and in the end we would rather give money to local people than put in the RIU pockets especially since they were charging so much for everything else!! Besides package...$1000 for reception, $10.50 per guest over 20 (bc had the Royal package), etc. Oh I also ended up going with a local florist that someone recommended and I was very happy with the flowers! We avoided the "vendor" fee by going ourselves (well my nephews and groom) to the front gate (about 100 feet from lobby) to get the flowers from her. The RIU did upgrade us to the AMAZING suite which was beautiful and we fully enjoyed!! The wedding co-ordinator (Christina) was very reserved and seemed to not care, but in the end she got everything done for us. A little more enthusism would go a long way on the RIU's and WC parts. I did bring a lot of stuff from home (programs, bubbles, fans, decorations for reception, shells, place cards, lanterns, guest book, etc.) and gave these to WC and with supervision from one of my cousin's everything was beautifully set up. I would strongly recommend that you assign one of your guests the job to ensure things are set up the way you want. Amazing how many of the workers would stop us the next day to congratulate us and tell us how beautiful the wedding was, etc. All our guests had a great trip and loved it. Please message me if you need any more details or information or names for the DJ, photographer or florist. Cheers, Lisa
  4. Good Morning Ladies! I got married at the RIU Montego Bay in August 2013 and it was wonderful. It was held on the beach at 4 pm and then we had the private reception upstairs at the steak house restaurants. I hired my own photographer who was absolutely AMAZING and cost us way less than the photographer that the hotel has. He edited a few of the pictures for me and then put all the pictures on a USB key (which I provided him) and they came home with me. I also hired a local dj to come and play for us and our guests since it was a private function. Paid him $500 (+$150 vendor fee to RIU which I feel si a rip off) but he played during dinner and then for 2.5 hours afterwards. My guests loved him!! He played songs that suggested (even though some were obscure, but he found them) and then spun others that everyone danced to. The whole time after dinner everyone was on the terrace dancing and having fun. I am happy to share a few of the pictures if anyone is interested and also to provide you names and details of the photographer and DJ. (Kevin aka Big Red and Jermaine aka Flex). Also, let me know if you have any others questions about wedding site. Message me if you would like this information. Cheers, Lisa
  5. Hello Ladies! I am getting married at the Riu MoBay on August 15th at 4pm. I was told to send our notorized "ID" (passport and birth certificate) at least a month beforehand. Has anyone else done this? Did you just photocopy these documents and have them notorized right on them with a lawyers seal?? For my welcome bags to my guests so far I found these really awesome towel clips that they can use to keep the beach towels from blowing off their chair or can stick them in the sand and put your sunglasses in them, magazines, etc. Other ideas I have are personalized lip balm, gum, mini bottle or rum (which I will pick up in town when I arrive). Still thinking on a few other items. Anyone booking the photographer through the hotel (Best Images)? Thought the prices were a little expensive and not even sure if that includes actual pictures printed or if that is extra. Also, anyone know if the pictures on the CD I can just print when I get home (i.e. will they have some sort of stamp on them which makes them unprintable when we get home??). I am planning on having the semi-private dinner for my 35 guests (give or take a few). Not exactly sure what type of decorations I should be bringing. Any suggestion and what are you ladies doing?
