  1. I just returned from the resort last month. I'm getting married there next year. There is no buffet in the middle of the Garden Grill private section, just for future brides who read this and start to panic.
  2. Hi Jamdrea, I would recommend the white gazebo. That is where I am getting married next year. We've been to the resort 3 times already. The iron gazebo is very close to the lobby and isn't as private. There also isn't very much room for seating.
  3. Hi! I've had a great response so far from our wedding coorinator, Paola. She writes me back the same day most times; the next day at the latest unless it's a holiday. We took a vacation there last month, so we were able to sit down with the coordinator and pick out the flowers, colors, etc.. She also took us to the Garden Grill where we are having our reception in the private room. It holds 40 people, so i'm hoping we don't exceed that. We have 33 booked right now. I almost wish I had planned the outdoor restaurant for the reception because it's a bigger space, but I think the heat will be too exhausting after all day. It was much hotter at night last time we were there compared to what I remember from our previous trips. So far, so good. I'm looking forward to it! It's so laid back and easy to plan. Shouldn't be stressful at all. We're having the dinner, dance, DJ and open bar. I have the salon booked for the morning of our wedding as well as the photographers.
  4. I also didn't mean for that to sound as a debate. Just saying no matter where you go situations happen, whether it's your fault or not and sometimes the wrong person is detained. That could happen in our local town, it's just unfortunate with the language and cultural barriers elsewhere. Hopefully these two men are released sooner than later. I watch "Locked up Abroad" regularly so I can't imagine what they could be going through. Personally, I'll still plan my wedding there. I've stayed at Bahia Principe twice before and had a great time, but maybe others will change their mind. If I dug up stories on Cuba, the states, Mexico etc, I'm sure there would be similar stories.
  5. I heard about this the other day. Such a sin! That wouldn't stop be going anywhere though. If you read polices articles before you went anywhere, you'd stay home forever. I've been to DR twice, Bahamas twice, Vegas 4 times, New York... Clearly all places that aren't the average safe place. Don't let this scare you brides people can get in a middle of the night drunken fight anywhere, including in your home town. Just warn your guests to stay out of trouble. There's always those who like a fight.
  6. I'm getting married at Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana on May 1st. We're leaning towards the Gazebo for more privacy. Does anyone know the difference between the Iron Gazebo and White Gazebo? I've stayed at this resort twice before but can only remember seeing the white gazebo. Any advise from past brides, I appreciate it! I'm dealing with the wedding coordinator Paola. She's a bit delayed in writing back sometimes but then quick other times. I much prefer quick responses!
  7. Hello Is there any other 2014 brides planning their wedding at Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana for 2014? We've been to the resort twice, 2008 and 2009, and we've decided to go back for our wedding. We've chosen May 1, 2014 as the ceremony and reception date. If you're planning for the same resort, let me know your experience so far and we can bounce ideas back and forth I'm usually pretty controlling in anything that I do, so this is going to be a new experience for me planning something in the Dominican when I love in Canada!
