  1. My wedding theme is what I like to call "Spanish Elegance" with black and white, and hints of red, and so for flowers, I only wanted red roses. I'll have very high centerpieces with chandelier pieces hanging down and a large pomander of red roses on top, my bouquet and my fiance's daughter's will be that same pomander shape with all red roses. As for the comparison, the hotel wanted to charge $60 dollars each for pomanders with only 12-15 roses, and the outside vendor I'm working with will be doing pomanders with 35 roses for $40 each...even with the $350 outside vendor fee, it will be well worth it for the amount of flowers we will be getting. And luckily, I will only be having my fiance's daughter as a junior bridesmaid and his son as the junior groomsmen so we don't have any other bouquet/boutonniere expenses. The vendor I chose is Floreria Zazil--they have been awesome and were referred to me by a bride on the forum who used them. Oh and we are planning to do the same as you guys...our private reception will go till 10, then we'll hit up the lobby bar for a bit before heading out the clubs on the strip
  2. Hi ladies! So in regards to the $350 outside vendor fee...just last month there was a bride who got married at GCR and even though she herself brought in the real flowers from an outside florist, they still charged her the outside vendor fee. It's true that initially, some brides were able to bypass the fee by doing this, but it seems that now the resorts are really clamping down on this. Basically, even if your florist never sets foot on the resort, if you have real flowers that you did not get from the resort, you will get the fee. We are not happy with this, but even with the outside vendor fee, we are getting a great deal on our flowers so it is what it is. Also, I've seen nothing but great reviews on this forum about Spazula's hair and makeup so I wouldn't worry about that; I have a TON of hair, very thick too, and I'm not in the least worried, but I'm still doing a hair and makeup trial a few days before just so that we can try out a couple of things and see what works the best The only thing I'm not sure about is the extent of their nail services; I want to know if they do Shellac because my decision on what to do with my nails will really depend on that. Since we are less than a month away from our big day, we have been transferred to our on-site coordinator and I've already bombarded her with that question and a few others My only other concern right now is being able to speak with the minister that will be doing our ceremony because I want to know exactly how the ceremony will go; my FI and I are catholic and would have had a catholic wedding at the chapel, but my fiance's annulment is taking forever to get approved so we won't be able to do it in time, therefore, we are having a non-denominational ceremony at the gazebo and I really have no idea what to expect as far as a non-catholic wedding ceremony goes. Anyone who has thoughts on this and can provide guidance would really be appreciated!! Thanks!!

  4. February 8, 2014 at The Royal Cancun ( Now Known As The Hyatt Zilara) in Cancun, Mexico with 50 guests!!!
  5. Hi ladies! for those of you who already got married at the Royal and had one of the packages that included a moonlit beach dinner for the bride and groom, was it worth it food-wise? my FI thinks it might be better to just eat at one of the Royal's yummy restaurants because the menu is going to be the same as the choices we have for our wedding menu so why eat off the same menu twice, you know? anyway, just wanted to know if it would be worth it to do or if we should just nix it! thx!

We actually still pretended to be engaged.....calling each other fiancés, not wearing our bands yet, I still had my bridal shower and bachelorette party, etc. We just felt like we personally wanted to "preserve" our moment for our Cancun wedding and if we told ppl about the civil marriage, it would downsize the "feeling" for us and everyone's experience. So no one ever found out and when Nov came along, and it still was magical. I honestly feel like I'm officially married now =). And after the wedding, I spilled the beans to some and told them we were already married since July. People jokingly were saying that they felt cheated and they came to Cancun for nothing and they would have cancelled their trip if they knew.....all with laughs tho as they were sipping on their umbrella drinks on the beach =) lol. Same with us--we will get married here in Denver the week before we leave for Cancun, but only our parents will know. Even when we do it legally at the courthouse, we are opting for the straight signing of paperwork and no actual ceremonial anything there--we definitely want the Christian ceremony in Cancun to be the only real ceremony we have.

They should have everyone's confirmation numbers if you did. Good to know--thanks! We are going to have about 60 people and some have used our travel agent, but others have not/will not. I guess I will just give them the ones from my travel agent and then attempt to get the others little by little. Also, how strict are they about adding more guests after the rooming list in confirmed? I would think they would welcome the additional business, and that we would just pay the extra at that time, even if it's after we have paid our final invoice, but who knows.
  9. So I'm getting a head start on plugging in my confirmed guest into the Rooming List spreadsheet that my WC sent me (it's due 2 months before the wedding, so for me that's in a few weeks) and I noticed that in addition to the guests names, children's ages, and hotel they're staying at, they are also asking for HOTEL CONFIRMATION NUMBERS!! WTF?! Who has time to get confirmation numbers for everyone??! Previous brides, did you absolutely have to have this for the WC to accept your Rooming List?? I find this ridiculous as they can just as easily look for this with the guest's last name.
  10. Agreed--the flower thing is made so much harder when it's a DW...not only because it feels like a waste of money when people can't take the flowers with them, but also just getting answers and quotes from people over there!! I'm actually in the middle of a tug-a-war with my WC Katia because she decided to be out of the office for like 4 weeks and not answer any emails, so I emailed her supervisor and have been getting a slow trickle of answers from her; to get a quote from the resort florist has been a huge headache. Katia's supervisor keeps sending these ridiculously big and expensive arrangements when I've already shown her pictures of my centerpieces which are small and could not hold an arrangement that big. I had initially considered using Maya Floral, but after one exchange from Marvin, he never wrote back to me and that was months ago even after I sent follow up emails--it was super unprofessional so I will not be giving him my business. I'm still considering just finding a different local florist and getting the flowers dropped off outside to avoid the fee and the all around expensiveness/unresponsiveness of the resort florist.

I have to second this...all of my guests so far have found awesome rates on expedia, and even though we do have a TA, if her quotes were more than what they found on expedia, she would honor the expedia rates as long as the guest put down a deposit with her that day. But yeah, pretty much any rates you find are way better than the rates the hotel gives you
  12. what is everyone's take on tipping as it relates to everyone that will be taking care of putting your wedding on at the resort? who do you tip and who do you not tip? for example, since it's an all-inclusive resort, would we not tip our bartenders at our cocktail hour and reception?

  14. Ladies, my WC just sent me this about the Royal... August 30, 2013 Dear Guests: We know how important every detail of your upcoming wedding is to your happiness. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we share with you the exciting news that THE ROYAL Cancun will be a premier resort in the new collection of Hyatt-branded all-inclusive resorts. By mid-November 2013 our fantastic resort will officially become the Hyatt Zilara Cancun. The Hyatt Zilara brand, which was derived from the word “exhilarate,†will inspire guests to embrace new discoveries through activity-driven experiences and will continue to provide the upscale adult-only, all-inclusive experience that has made THE ROYAL Cancun so successful. Most importantly absolutely nothing regarding your wedding plans will change. Your contract and bookings, services and arrangements remain intact under the terms of your agreement. There will not be any rate changes in relation to existing agreements for your package and the extras with the new brand. The same dedicated professional wedding planning staff and coordinators will continue to work with you to ensure that every detail of your celebration is in place. In addition, the relationship with Real Resorts and the adjacent Gran Caribe Real Resort stays in place, so your guests who may be staying at this family-friendly resort can still come (with their children) and enjoy your wedding celebration. The rebranding is the direct result of the resort’s new partner/owner, Playa Hotels & Resorts B.V., exclusive agreement with Hyatt to be the first franchisee and management company for Hyatt’s entry into the all-inclusive resort segment. As the Hyatt Zilara Cancun, we will be making some enhancements to the resort to ensure a true ‘Hyatt’ experience. These upgrades will be seamless and transparent to guests as they primarily encompass back-of-the-house changes and furnishing updates. We will also be enhancing some of our F&B experiences to provide an even more upscale dining experience and ensure an excellent venue for your wedding. We look forward to helping you celebrate to make your Dream become Real with your upcoming wedding vows through our gracious service from the heart. Thank you for your trust in us. We are very excited to continue exceeding your expectations at THE ROYAL Cancun and providing a wonderful experience for our guests in the near future as the Hyatt Zilara Cancun. If you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to let us know. Sincerely, Fernando García Zalvidea General Helper Real Resorts and Playa Hotels & Resorts B.V.
