  1. hi all! So I guess I could be posting this in the wedding attire/accessories forum, but i wanted to post specific to cabo because I know it will be hot, but probably not quite as humid as some other destination spots (from what I've heard). Since July will be very hot, just curious if anyone had any trouble w/ their makeup melting off or if they used any special products that helped out? I'll be having a makeup artist from the states w/ me, but I'm in Southern California which doesn't get that crazy in the heat department, so I just want to be ahead of the game preparing for the extreme heat. Thanks for any tips!
  2. Hello! Just curious if anyone has had to deal w/ their resort offering a better deal on their site or other discount sites than they offered you in the room block and what the outcome was. I'm currently dealing w/ this and am waiting to hear back on a resolution but am just curious about anyone else's experience. The only differences in the room my resort is offering at a MUCH (talking hundreds in credits and free room nights) lower rate is that it's a partial ocean view over a full one, of course the listing states an upgrade is provided when available. I have already had a few guests book at this rate or w/ other package deals offered on discount sites, and it seems wrong that the hotel wouldn't honor that as part of my room block, but I really don't know how this will play out. Seems like this type of situation may come up more often these days w/ groupons and cheapcarribeans becoming so popular. If anyone has any advice on how to approach this if they try and tell me it's a no go, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
  3. Ok i wasn't sure about responding since I am just barely planning my wedding but i see no one else has, so I'll give you my take...which is limited in experience. I think 5k would be really difficult to do what you're looking for, but if you're willing to go without some stuff, you might be able to pull it off. If you can cut down your head count, then yes, you can def do it. If not, then you need to get creative! Do you want a photographer? If pics are important, a good photog will be no less than 3k, so if you know someone, that will be a great place to save money. I had a 20k budget and for me a photog was the most important, so im spending almost 5k on mine. From my planners budget (dont have solid pricing yet) a DJ will be around 1000-1500. An officient is around $300. Are you open to a friday or sunday wedding? Most resorts offer discounts for that. Also if you do a cash bar, that can obviously save a ton. I've found most food quotes are around 40-75pp not including any booze and only some including hour devours. if you do the all inclusive, though, you will save lots and lots and it will make ur budget even more doable. Flowers are also pretty expensive and since it's mexico, we cant just grab cheap flowers at our local market and bring em over. My estimate for bouquets alone was over $1,000, not including centerpieces. I have seen some cool paper flower decorations on pinterest, so if youre open to that, more savings! Again, that was my planners guess, not an actual quote. I dont have crazy fancy taste and am hoping I can drop that down. i think most resorts dont require a lot of guests, most destination weddings are quite small, so I'd keep hunting if you're running into that issue! Restaurants yes, but not the resorts. You can also save money by doing ur own planning instead of accepting the resorts package. So all in all, if a photog isn't important and you go extremely minimal on decorations, you might be able to make it work. I do think a planner will put you over the edge on your budget, so you will just have to dig your heels in and make lots of phone calls. OH dont forget the 11% tax on everything plus 18% for food service. That stuff is killing me! Good luck, i hope you can make it work...and if not, take that money and have a killer honeymoon!
  4. anyone have any experience with doing their own flowers in cabo and the price point? I just don't want to pay crazy prices for fancy floral design when im a pretty simple girl! Im pretty open to any flower type as well as succulents, and actually prefer succulents if possible, but will take what I can get. I'm arriving Weds for a saturday wedding. Will that be enough time to order or can I order over the phone? Any help is appreciated!
  5. Hola! Planning my wedding at the Westin in Cabo for Summer of 2014. I'm trying to decide if I should get a wedding planner, as I don't plan on going to cabo before my wedding. I know the resort comes with a coordinator when you book, but I don't know how much help they really provide? I am the first of my friends to get married, so I am just completely clueless on the entire process. Who handles the table layout, type of decorations, flowers, lighting? Will the on site coordinator help me w/ that stuff? Any help/advice is appreciated!
  6. So I'm planning my wedding for next summer (2014) at the Westin in Cabo. I'm not planning on going to Cabo prior, so all my planning will be done online. I'm trying to decide if I need an outside planner? I am the first of my friends to get married, so I'm pretty clueless on how it all works. They provide an on-site coordinator, but I don't know how far that gets me. Will they help w/ the overall table layout and how do I know how much I need in the way of flowers, lighting, etc? I just feel like I'm going in totallllly blind and can't tell if the handholding provided by the Westin is enough! Any help is appreciated!
