  1. We had our reception in El Patio in mid may and it was definitely hot! the windows were open but the breeze didn't really come in. Pro was that the restaurant is so beautiful that you dont need to bring decorations. They brought over the flowers, and there was little candle holders on the tables. I wished I had spent much less time making decorations. I did not have full programs but did have raffia fans with a little label that we put the schedule on. The fans were much appreciated, people used them right through dinner. After the dinner everyone went outside to cool off and get a drink at Barracuda. The price for the a la carte was less than doing it outside and getting the dance floor and lights (chinese lanterns are $300, dance floor was something like $750 or $850). My hair was glued in place also, but if it hadn't beent the wind definitely would have destroyed it. The ladies with short hair all had it sticking straight up in our photos lol. I got my makeup done too, it was tasteful - I am not used to wearing a lot of makeup but it looked good in the photos.
  2. I didn't get the sashes but I think it was $6 each. I had a bonfire and you could probably have a welcome party without the fire. They do provide marshmallows for roasting which is kinda fun but I wouldn't say it made the party. We added the fire show onto our bonfire which was expensive ($600? cant remember) and that is what everyone was talking about.
  3. I agree, we also had Alejandro and the script was great. I did email him beforehand and he was very quick to respond. He did not share the script, and I enjoyed the surprise. We had a non-religious ceremony but he did read the common bible reading from corinthians about love. He didn't introduce it as from the bible and the reading is really not religious sounding. We wrote our own vows and he told us when to read them. We also had a friend read a poem which he forgot about but I was able to remind him at the end before we signed the papers. Make sure you remind Jacki before hand if you will be having something different like that. I agree it was hard for us to hear what he was saying but overall it was very nice.
  4. We had a group of 26 and did not feel that the place was too big. I think 40 would be fine. We decided on the restaurant becuase the beach was so open and not private at all. Everyone was walking by and watching. Same with Oceana. We got 2 extra hours and had dinner served and definitely glad we did. People were still dancing at the end, so we moved the party to the night club. The night club is pretty small, has pool tables and tvs so it's also a sports bar. It is pretty fun, we went there the night we arrived for karaoke. Not sure about theme nights? We didn't participate in a lot of the resort activities because we were so busy. The food at the wedding was the best! We have the beef fillet with lobster, the beef was awesome. Best meal we had all week.
  5. Hello all! Had my wedding last week and everything was wonderful. I will post details and reviews in a few days, just busy getting caught up at work now. Feel free to ask any questions! I ended up having the ceremony in the gazebo and the reception at el Patio. One think I recommend is tie clips, the guy's ties were flying all over the place. Good gift idea!
  6. I finally got my information packages out! 4 weeks to go... Included in the package is an info sheet about the resort that I printed off their website, a packing list that I got at Chapters/Indigo, an information booklet, and luggage tags. The info booklet has a welcome message, list of group activities we are having, more notes about the resort, local attractions, some unique items they might want to pack, travel notes about the airline and Mexico, and a list of Spanish phrases. I had a logo made up by Niki at STHBlue, I found on etsy - http://www.etsy.com/shop/sthblue?ref=seller_info. I made the luggage tags from fabric that I purchased at Ikea for the beach bags I am sewing (welcome package). I included the local address of the resort in the tag.
  7. hey, I am getting married in 41! Time is flying. I haven't been to the resort so I haven't seen in person. We originally wanted to have our reception in El Patio because it looks so pretty, but decided against it. We read a couple of places that it get VERY hot because there is no AC. We decided on the beach, the breeze at night should keep everyone cool. Hopefully we can change our mind once we get there if it is was too hot. For the ceremony we are having it in the gazebo. My fiance wanted the shade (he is bald )
  8. I just got these 2 documents yesterday from Jacki at the resort, thought they might be useful for others. The plan really helped me think of things I need to get done. Copy of Wedding Plan.xlsx DJ Request form.xlsx
  9. I was thinking about this too...our parents are not hosting the wedding, or paying, so I am not sure this tradition would apply to us?
  10. For our first dance we decided on Lost Together by Blue Rodeo. We just started dance lessons last night (so much fun!), hopefully we can learn it all before May! I was also wondering about the father and bride dance. I think I will ask my dad if he has any songs in mind. I like the idea of having the groom and his mother dance at the same time, otherwise we will be having planned dances all night long! What about wedding party dances?? I have no ideas on that yet. Kudos to everyone setting up their playlists for the night. I have to pick out songs for the ceremony and that alone is stressing me out! It's a lot of work!
  11. Hello! We are planning on having the ceremony in the gazebo - we thought having cover from the sun would be best. We aren't sure about the reception, we originally like El Patio but have read that it gets quite hot and there is no AC. I read a review from another May bride that the beach was nice and cool in the evening so we may have the reception on the beach. I will let you know what we go with, and how it works out! We are having our ceremony at 5pm. This was the time recommended to us and we didn't really think about it too much. I'm just hoping we have time to do photos after, since I am not sure I want the groom to see me before the ceremony.
  12. The Dress We got all of our dresses at David's Bridal in Mississauga. I dealt with a few sales people there and was happy with everyone. They told me my dress would take 10 weeks and it took about 8, and the bridesmaids only took about 4 even though they said 14. I was very happy with the experience! Here is the link to my dress: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Strapless-Lace-Gown-with-Ribbon-Detail-WG3381 I am adding a purple sash. Sorry the photo is sideways, can't figure out why... The bridesmaids dress: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Matte-Crepe-Column-Dress-with-Cowl-Back-VW360069_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-White-by-Vera-Wang-Bridesmaids The girls will not have the huge flower They are getting the dresses hemmed to their knees so it's not so hot.
  13. I am currently planning my May wedding in the Riviera Maya and thought I would share some of the projects I am working on. I am very thankful for all the inspiration I have gotten on these boards so hopefully I can give some back! I will post pictures and details as I work along. Any questions feel free to ask! Resort The resort selection was very difficult and took a rather long time. At first I did not think Mexico would be the location, but after getting lots of prices back it seemed to be the best bang for our buck. We wanted to keep costs down for our guests. We finally decided on Dreams Puerto Aventuras and are very happy so far. The wedding coordinator that I have been corresponding with, Jacki Muir, is excellent. She replies very quickly to all or our emails. We like that this resort is in a gated community, some people had concerns about safety. http://www.dreamsresorts.com/drepa/
  14. Hello May brides! I am getting married May 13th at Dreams , exactly 10 weeks to go. We are at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. The to-do lists I have seen on this thread are very helpful so I wanted to say thanks to everyone that shared!
