  1. Lol - I have ALWAYS loved purple, and when my engagement ring ended up being an amethyst, I was SO EXCITED!! And of course that means I have to have purple as one of my wedding colors!
  2. Thank you both. I had heard something strange about the fact that because we are both US Citizens it isn't the same as 2 Cayman Island citizens who move to the US who were married in the Caymans. I'm not going to stress over it. I mean obviously lots of people are doing destination weddings and their marriages are valid since we would have heard the uproar over it if there was an issue. PLUS I have TONS of other things to stress about!! Lol.

  4. I'm technically getting married in Grand Cayman, although it is actually going to be onboard the Carnival Paradise while we are in port in Grand Cayman. So something I have been wondering and wasn't sure if it was answered already. With a Grand Cayman marriage certificate, I know it will be recognized in the US, but does anyone know if you have to go record it in your local courthouse? Someone mentioned that to me but I wasn't sure and honestly haven't checked out the formalities of it all yet with my local county. Thanks!!
  5. We are getting married on a Carnival cruise and there are quite a few people who can't join us and at the same time quite a few people we couldn't invite. But like you said, the whole purpose of a destination wedding was the fact that we were saving money on the wedding. So I had read somewhere a while back that someone was having a "Just Married" party. Instead of calling it an AHR, call it a "Just Married" party. Maybe it is me just being cheap, or maybe it is wishful thinking, but if I call it a Just Married Party then it is a totally casual party where I can do what I want with it and no one expects it to be like a regular wedding reception! We found the Orlando headquarters for the American Legion rents out their space for either $500 or $800 (those are the rooms I am looking at, one fits 100 and the other fits 170) for 6 hours and it includes the tables and chairs and set up and clean up! I've seen their pictures online and it is clean and a brand new facility!! I'm going to tour the place the Monday before Thanksgiving. Since it is going to be a very casual party and early in the afternoon so I don't have to worry about a full course dinner, we are going to get buffet style food from Costco, beer and wine from Costco and probably a cake from there too! Nothing fancy. My friends know that I just wanted to celebrate with them and I wanted everyone who couldn't make it to feel included. I'm even considering just going with paper tablecloths and the cheesy white paper wedding bells for decorations! I think it is up to you how formal or informal you would like to make your AHR. Good Luck!!
  6. I'm new to the forums and just saw this thread... I haven't read through all 90+ pages yet, but wanted to say that I am a May 2013 bride too!! I have been seriously planning since February of this year, but just found this website. We are getting married onboard the Carnival Paradise, while it is in port in Grand Cayman. The cruise leaves Tampa on Monday May 13th, then we are getting married in port on Wednesday, May 15th. I'm super excited to have found this website and these froums. Not sure if anyone else out there is a cruise bride, but I have already found some really great information (like where to get the mini-passport invitations).
  7. Hi! My name is Didi and my fiance is John. We got engaged March of 2011 and we are planning our wedding onboard the Carnival Paradise while it is in port in Grand Cayman for May 2013. I'm so excited to have found this forum, since most wedding forums are for 'traditional' brides and don't really have much information for destination weddings! I've started the process of ordering our invites since I would like them to go out in January since most people ignored our Save the Dates! I want to give everyone enough time to book their cabins. I'm looking forward to finding lots more useful information on this website!
  8. I just joined the boards and am so excited to be here!! I have already been searching the boards and found tons of information and am so grateful for this board. It is hard to be a part of "normal" wedding boards when you aren't having a "normal" wedding! My name is Didi and my fiance is John. We have been engaged since March 2011 and we are going to be getting married May 15, 2013 while onboard the Carnival Paradise while it is in port in Grand Cayman. We are thinking of having a very very casual reception when we get back and it will be a "Just Married Party" and not a formal reception. So that is the next thing we need to start planning for as well. I'm looking forward to finding more information on the boards.
