Hi Brooke! Congratulations!! I got married in Mexico this past March. We chose the Riviera Maya section (south of Cancun) because of all the violence on the western side of the country (where Acapulco /Cabo are located). It was extremely convenient to the airport in Cancu and such. I couldn't have asked for a nicer setting or group of people. Also in the Yucutan Pennisula is Playa Del Carmen - which I hear is AMAZING as well. I started planning about a year out too. I don't know what your goals are, but ours were affordability, preferrably all inclusive, and convenient to sights/airport. The best thing I did in all of this was take the recommendation of a friend and contact destinationweddings.com. They are essentially a TA, but the experience they had really helped make things much smoother. I didn't have to do anything but provide the TA my requirements and she helped find a place. I also think I got a lot of perks out of using them then I would have on my own. They also made sure the coordinator at the resort met my needs and they took care of all our transportation to/from the airport. I think I would have lost my mind if I hadn't used them.
