  1. HI Fellow Brides, I'm getting married in May 2012 and wanted to plan an activity for our guests and I've run out of ideas. Our travel agent gave us a list of day trips to Ruins, etc but thats not exactly what I had in mind. I don't want something that would be an entire long day for people but something that gave them a unique experience in Mexico. I attended a friend's wedding and we did a Catamaran cruise where we did snorkling, etc which was a great time so I was thinking something along those lines. Also could be something we do on the resort I just couldn't think of anything. Looking forward to hearing what other people are doing, Thanks so much for the help!
  2. My friend got married last spring and this is her website: katieanderiksayido.com Might be a good guide to show you what they included, they kept adding more information as plans were firmed up so in the beginning some of the pages just said "coming soon" or "check back with us" etc. Hope this helps!
  3. Hi Fellow Brides, I am looking through the food options for our wedding and requested the buffet options. Does anyone have any recommendations about these choices? We are expecting 40-50 people and felt like the regular dinners might be too formal for what we want so were thinking of the buffet options instead of the multiple courses. Would love some of your expertise to weigh in. Also, heading down to do a site visit in a month to decide on locations- other than the beach and the gazebo where else have people done their ceremony? Worried the Gazebo is too small and wondered if there was another option to the beach. Thanks so much! Suzi
  4. Hi Ladies, I have another question and unfortunately am not getting the answers needed from Ilena either. Do any of the brides out there have experience with booking the group room rates? I have an estimate on room rates for a block of 10 rooms (min 3 nights) but the contract is a bit confusing as far as payment goes. Here is the section that confuses me: The group rates provided are only available with a minimum of 10 rooms for at least 3 nights thru a group contract and a 10% deposit is due at the time of contract and two other payments for the 45% are due 120 days out and 45 days out by wire transfer, bank certified check or company check. THE “HOTEL†will not accept personal checks or credit cards. Reservations are to be done thru a guests list. Phone reservations are not available. I thought this meant (as did with other resorts I spoke to) that we could pay the deposit on the 10 room block to save them and as our guests booked they would pay their deposit and ours would be returned to us but I clarified this with Ilena and she is leading me to believe we have to pay for all these rooms ourselves and our guests are best using the rates on the website. I am hoping this is just getting confused in the translation of back and forth and not the case. Has anyone done this? Also, what is the procedure for guests to make reservations? They can't call but can they reserve online? What does "reservations are to be done thru a guest list" mean? Thanks again Ladies, you all tend to be a much faster response than Ilena and the group rates people!
  5. I was in a wedding at Secrets Capri last month and it was lovely. My best friend got married there and everything went off without a hitch. She had her ceremony on the grass beside the gazebo and her reception in the beach side restaurant. Here ceremony started at 5, if you are looking or a more private wedding I would suggest doing that time as well. We saw other weddings while we were there and the ones in the afternoon tended to have more people watching from the pool, etc. The only thing she would have changed is skipping the DJ and just using an ipod (since he pretty much just played their list anyway)
  6. Thanks so much, ladies! I figured the people that posted about the seaweed might be more sensitive than average and what you all are describing sounds beautiful. On another note, I'm not getting a very fast response from the wedding coordinator and its starting to worry me about the rest of the response if it takes them this long to get back to me on the first exchange. I read on some of the other chains some glowing reviews for the Wedding Coordinator that used to be there but I guess she is now working in another department. How was your experience with the current wedding coordinator? Also, I emailed weddings.xpm@excellence-resorts.com, does anyone have another email I should try? Thank you!
  7. Hi Ladies, One question I have about Excellence Playa Mujeres is about the beach...some of the reviews on Trip Advisor caution that the beach is filled with seaweed and you cant really swim in the ocean. I have been reading how great the pools and Lazy River are but still want a location with a nice beach. What would you say about the beach there?
  8. Hi Amanda, My fiance are in the process of deciding a location for our wedding and EPM is in our final list. How is your experience been so far for planning? Also, I read some reviews on tripadvisor that cautioned me about the beach there saying there was lots of seaweed, did you find this true? Look forward to hearing about your experience! Suzi
