  1. Well, I hadn't been checking the thread much lately but I do have something that some of you may be willing to try, vegetarian, ovo lacto vegetarian to be precise. For awhile I weighed close to 200 pounds I had strayed from the way I was raised as a vegetarian but finally kicked that stuff to the curb, I drank nothing but green tea or water, and ate only meat-free foods, no high fat or greasy foods (take out, any restaurant really, no fried foods). And I ate about 6 small meals a day rather than three larger ones, that combined with walking for an hour a day and weight lifting for half an hour, then work with a bowflex for another 30 minutes, and sit ups for 15 minutes before bedtime. The whole matter of being a vegetarian is knowing exactly what to eat to have nutritional meals. A lot of stores also sell vegetarian hot dogs (and other meat-like products but are meat free versions) that are only 45 calories per dog, I can eat a lot more of those and keep my calorie count below what a meat product would be. Remember, different foods will take longer to digest so if you choose foods that take longer to digest generally you're going to feel fuller for longer. I dropped from 200 pounds to 135 in a couple months after going back to vegetarian only, now my weight is up to 145 but that still a good weight based on my weight and I also have a larger bone structure (I have been eating out once or twice a month, too). I'm not saying go for it but that is an option some of your could try, also try colon cleansing, you'd be amazed at how much weight you can carry from that sort of thing. And there's always the partial vegetarian diet where you simply eat very very little meat once in awhile. Look at food content, not every vegetarian food is going to be lower in fat than meat but the majority will be. Set a calorie intake for each day and count the calories you eat. Just an idea.
  2. Ballerina: I love your dress, it looks amazing on you. I'm planning on getting fabric swatches from gianinar, taffeta, poly satin, silk satin (if they have it), soft satin, and thin satin since I'm so confused about the fabric. But I also am looking at having my bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dress made by them. The dresses I've seen from Gianinar are amazing, they have surpassed my expectations and I agree, as long as your dress isn't too detail oriented they should be able to do it without a problem. Those of you who ordered from Gianinar did you have any problems with customs, any fees you had to pay to customs? I found my bridesmaid dresses from Landy and they said they didn't cover customs charges which made me wonder how that exactly works, am I suddenly going to receive the dress with some weird fees attached to it?
  3. So, those of you who used Gianinar and got dresses that fit great did you have a professional take your measurements for you? I also found an interesting little article http://www.romanticgowns.com/Collection/ebay.asp, not trying to scare anyone away from somewhere like Gianinar, I wish they would have tried getting some dresses from Gianinar or jefflieu (spelling?) which both mostly have good reviews though.
  4. pamphilia: Thank you! I entirely overlooked that. ballerina: Oh that's beautiful, I really love the little splash of color you added. christina: I entirely understand those things bothering you, if you think they're going to ruin your day then I'd go back and complain to Gianinar, either asking for a full refund or even a partial refund to cover the costs of having it fixed by a seamstress, I mean if I found a dress in David's Bridal and noticed some small flaws like that I'd definitely ask for a discount since I'm buying from a store not a second-hand store, the items should be NEW, and Gianinar should be able to give you a dress that you're completely satisfied with.
  5. christina: I love how much of a perfectionist you are it's great, most people don't look at those small things I'm sure it helps those of us thinking of Gianinar, but honestly no one's going to notice them like you do and also I'm sure a seamstress can help fix a lot of those minor issues, sure you'll be spending the extra money for a seamstress to do adjustments but it still makes it less than the original would have cost. The dress is GORGEOUS, I did notice the stitches but never would have noticed a lot of it until it was pointed out and even though we got close ups of the issues I really doubt anyone at your wedding will ever notice them even standing next to you. Now I'm completely confused about the different fabrics, you can order fabric samples for $5 I think from them, I'm not sure if that includes shipping or not though. Does anyone know what fabric they used on luciel's dress on page 52?
  6. JennandMike: Where were you ordering yours from? And it's a beautiful dress. Having bead work done really isn't that hard of a process it's just very time consuming and tedious. I found a great help guide for putting your own rhinestones on a dress if you need it, it may help you out with the belt if you wanted to add some sparkle to it. How to add little Swarovski crystals to wedding/reception dress or tiara Weddingbee Boards, I ddo think the turquoise would be beautiful and add a nice little "pop" to the dress...I love turquoise though so I'm biased. roxmysockz: The dress looks great, I didn't even notice the pockets until you mentioned it, I think that's a unique idea. And the middle where the beading is done does look a little taller than in the original but that's personal preference I guess, it's not far off from the original though. Janine: Well...I don't know really that Tornai dress is very simple, and those roses aren't that hard to make. The Manuel one seems to have more little areas that would call for an attention to detail and Gianinar has been working with similar designs as the Tornai, they may not be as familiar with a unique design like the Manuel one. Either way I love both dresses (I love Tornai's dresses, there's few of them I would personally wear but they're still beautiful), the Manuel one is so unique but still classy which I love. Ultimately it's what your heart says is the perfect one. But I honestly wouldn't see why the price would be off by so much for the two different dresses. It honestly really hard to say, ruching really isn't hard to replicate either, but I do think it also has to do with the dressmaker's experience and personal preferences as to what's easier and harder. KJT, I was trying to figure out how to explain how the Tornai is simpler in some terms and you put it so well. And I'm no dressmaker but I have sewn items myself so it's a little from experience, too. I would honestly say the hardest thing about the Manuel is that it's more time consuming, that may be part of the cost difference. You know how silk feels? Silk satin is silk that's shiny, so it's silk just shiny silk. I was under the impression they couldn't get silk satin for dresses there, I'll send them an email and ask about it then because silk satin is what Tornai uses for all of her dresses...well, most of her dresses...I'm confused by them saying the Manuel would be out of silk satin, it looks to be made out of polyester satin. Polyester satin is what most wedding dresses in stores like David's Bridal are from, it's somewhat shiny (not nearly as silk is...you can go back and look at the pictures of the dress I want, that's what silk satin is like in comparison to polyester satin), it's also heavy, but it also doesn't have the same soft flow of silk satin. Unless they also have their fabrics mixed up, that was what I thought the differences were from talking to different shops to recreate my dress and seamstresses that work with fabrics a lot. But I could also be wrong about that. christinak: I hope it may just be a first bad impression, they happen at times. And that's the biggest downfall a lot of people ordering from Gianinar are they looking for small details like those that would show to you and possibly other people that it's not an amazing dress? Definately looking forward to pictures of your dress. KJT: What's taffeta like? I know it's shiny but is it soft or stiff?
  7. chrinstina: That dress is beautiful. peterpan: I agree with everything you said, looking at the pictures I'm pretty sure that blue spot is a pin since you can see the fabric a little gathered around it. So thin satin isn't as shiny as normal polyester satin? But taffeta is very shiny but stiff? It almost looks like in the original it's made of silk but once it hits the bottom half of the dress it has a lace overlay of some sort, I'm no expert or anything. I do agree it looks stiff and not as shiny (but those could be pictures...it's so hard to tell), I think we're both awaiting christina's response on how her polyester satin dress feels. It's the same fabric they were going to use on mine and that's a silk dress also which is the main set back for me. Your other changes I'm sure they can fix very easily and without a problem Gianinar always seems to have great customer response.
  8. A J: I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with it, even though that's aginst their policy and all I probably would snap some pictures while the lady was gone, you could always claim you didn't see the sign saying no pictures or wanted to show your mom or mother-in-law, I'm not sure if they can really do anything besides ask you to leave. And the dress in the picture is beautiful. christina: Yay, I'm glad for you, I hope you love it when you get it.
  9. I hope it doesn't mess up your plans. I had a friend that had already put down $700 on a beach house and now is worried to go and have problems with the oil spill, too. I hope it doesn't affect your plans.
  10. I was going to say the same thing, if you can't find it anywhere else just go back to the store and have pictures taken of it on from different angles (back, front, side), and if there're any details you could nab some of them too with macro on (usually a picture of a flower on cameras that have it). Good luck finding it though, there's got to be a picture of it somewhere it's just hard to track them down. Have you tried just going to Google image search and typing in the designer's name?
  11. That was really simple but really helped, I hadn't seen that website before I found the perfect color combo for what I had in mind. Thank you.
  12. All right I found my dress, it's champagne, and I LOVE purple. But I want to get some opinions on what would be good together with champagne? Does anyone think purple would look okay? What shade of purple would look good? And what would be a good color to mix with purple and champagne? I'm having a hard time picking this myself. I've looked at Victorian violet with champagne which I thought was pretty but it's also very hard to find that particular shade of purple for anything. I think the biggest issue is finding a color to compliment both the champagne and the violet. But then I also liked plum with champagne. I'm no designer so I find it hard to figure this out. I'm just looking for some extra input or advice.
  13. Sadly, I haven't gotten mine just yet the ring I got was his mother's but it's not really my style, so he asked me if I wanted to pick out one myself. I found one on craigslist that's exactly what I was looking at from Belden's for 1/3 the price, I'm going to get it in the next week or two after it gets resized. Does anyone know of any jewelers that work with pink or rose gold? I really wanted a rose gold ring but haven't found any that were of a good quality.
  14. A J: You could always ask them if you could pay extra for a rush I have no idea if they do that or not though. And Gianinar quotes me $150 (including shipping) for mine, it costs a little more than the one on their bid but I also asked them for a custom one and didn't notice the bid, but it doesn't bother me either way, they'll have to do a little more work with what I was wanting (mostly the flowers and ruching on the train, which they didn't do with the bid one), I think the average for most people from them is $150 to $180. I hope you can get yours in time I really have no idea how quickly they could do it. And thanks everyone for the input it's kind of my stand point, too. It's my day so why should anyone say differently but it is nice to sometimes get opinions on maybe I could do this or that to make it a little better or give the feel I want. I actually dislike a lot of Tornai's other dresses, almost like she puts lingerie and throws a poofy skirt at the bottom of it and a lot of her dresses just aren't what a non celebrity would wear for their wedding.
  15. imafoxx: I'm trying on dresses in another week or two and I'm not ordering my dress right now I have a few things I need to spend money on that're more important but I think anyone thinking about buying a dress of the internet should try on dresses first or have a good understanding of their body shape and what looks good on it, their personal preferences, and their skin tone to what colors look good on them. Me, I'm an hourglass so I can put on almost anything and it looks good, that doesn't mean I like everything, I want to feel beautiful and I that means something that hugs my body (but not too tight), and my skin tone looks horrible with white but ivory and champagne are amazing. So it's really the personal opinion, do you know your likes and dislikes with clothing enough to order something you don't know how it'd look on you exactly? And then what happens when you're trying on this dress and that and find you LOVE this bodice but HATE the skirt with it? You can't really tell the shop cut off this skirt and sew this one onto it (well, sure you could but most places would blatantly refuse). Or you see a photo of a dress no longer in production? The only way to get a dress that's no longer being made is either get a knockoff or go through the tiresome task of hunting down an original which is usually very hard to do. The dress I want isn't in production anymore, and throughout all my hunting to find the real thing I've found one used for $8000 and some pictures of it from a woman who bought it. So not only do I not have the money to shell out for such an expensive dress but even if I did I couldn't get it brand new, where being used, you risk the previous owner not taking care of it, it having stains from their wedding, moths and silverfish (I've heard silk is a delicacy to these bugs). KJT: I know, they did a wonderful job on it I mean I have close-ups from a woman who actually shelled out the $25000 for the real thing and there are A LOT of rhinestones on it which Gianinar doesn't seem to add although I will be sending them pictures of the close-ups I have just in case it was another oversight from the pictures but I've also lined up tailors in my area that do things like that, it'll cost me another couple hundred if I don't do it myself but the dress is so much more stunning with those little details. Now, if you look at the Gianinar remake you can see you it's not exactly the same but the embroidery they did looks almost the same. I can honestly say in my hunt for the dress (before I knew who even made it) the recreation at lightinthebox for $700 looked horrible...they used a matte satin where Pnina uses silk satin so it's a VERY noticeable difference (silk satin shines and has a flow that polyester satin can't reproduce and so matte satin? Ewww), the flowers were too big, they made the off the shoulder flowers too tight and too close together so they were on the shoulder and didn't give that "sweetheart" look (the flowers could honestly be worn either way but they had strung the flowers too close together that if you tried to wear it off the shoulder it'd just look...trashy), the cuts they did on the satin for the flowers was bad, too, embroidery was minimal, as if they were too lazy to make the effort, the only good thing I could say is they got the train somewhat right and the lace they used in the front opening was good (looks exactly like what Pnina used). But compared to this $150 work from Gianinar...it's a train wreck. I'm going to love to see your dress from them when you get it. JanineA: Polyester satin is the majority of what wedding dresses are made of, so now I bet you can get a better idea, it shines somewhat with the light, it's polyester so it doesn't breath well, but it's the standard for wedding dresses except when you find designers like Pnina Tornai (the dress I love), she uses silk for pretty much all of her dresses. But it's the standard for wedding dresses so no worries, as long as they don't use a bad quality satin it should look great (but luckily, Gianinar seems to use a decent quality satin). I have a question for you girls, do you think the dress I'm looking at will be too much for outdoors...what I'm envisioning in my mind is a faerie-like wedding, a ceremony in the evening right when the sun is setting and string lights from the trees to make them look like faerie lights and have antique-looking lanterns hanging around, and the place I have in mind, I would have a long enough walk to the front that it would give plenty of time to show off the dress and gorgeous train (I'm only worried about having such a low guest count leaving so much of that area empty but I could set up rows as only a couple people to a row instead of more so it would make the rows longer and not make some people have to try to look over others), I'd also probably have some cloth put down for the aisle (so to say) so it wouldn't be dragging all sorts of stuff behind me. I'm looking at churches, too, but the park I'm thinking of has these gorgeous antique-style street lights that come on and give a beautiful look to the park. I've asked this in my own thread at a couple different places and I have to say...every response was rude, constructive criticism is one thing but being catty? Oh dear, I wrote a book. I'm sorry.
