  1. I used Ivan Luckie- paid for a room for him and his assistant (wife). I basically told them that if I wasnt allowed the outside photographer, i would go elsewhere.
  2. Sorry-- meant to include Nene's remark about the $500 for offsite photographer.
  3. You can buy a room for your photographer-- that is what i did. That was about 250 or something.
  4. Try flyboys naturals-- they are freeze dried.. .i used them and they worked nicely...just cannot buy them too far in advance--maybe order them about 1 1/2 to 2 mos out.
  5. For what its worth, i had an outside hair and makeup girl -- Melissa Parry w/ MVP (one person and she did both hair and makeup) and I just paid a guest pass fee for her, not the $500.00. They dont pay attention to who is coming in and out, just meet her @ the lobby and pay for a guest pass for her. if you have more than 1-2 people getting hair and makeup done then you might need her to bring another helper, but i think she could easily handle 1-2 people within 3-4 hours. She did a very nice job with makeup and hair-- got tons of compliments. I really didnt want to go w/ the people there and I'm glad that i didnt.
  6. Its all so loosey goosey what they tell people they will charge. I think I paid a small set up fee, but definitely not $200 per table. I got married last July. Plus, the WC didnt even set up everything the way i wanted it, so i dont see how they could justify the $200 fee. Just have a trusted friend go out and set up the tables the way you want. What exactly are you trying to get set up? I think stringing lights in the air, etc. may be more justified to charge you, but just arranging runners, chair sashes, etc, that isnt worth 200 per table.

  8. Hi everyone-- we just got back and yes, the Palenque terrace is actually beautiful and I liked it MUCH better than the Sky Terrace, even for my small group b/c it was the only private area option-- all the other areas have people milling in and out. I was dealing with Mario originally, but he was replaced by Suzete b/c he was promoted. I do wish she would have answered my questions more directly b/c I am a detail person. When I asked if she had any other weddings the same day as mine, she said no, but didnt mention she also had a huge private event with close to 80+ people at the same time-- this caused her to be really spread thin during my event and my friends had to do a lot of what I would consider WC work-- ie telling the DJ when to announce us, when the first dance was, when we were going to cut the cake, etc... in fact, I ended up having to do some of that myself. I dont know if this is normal, but I had thought the WC would handle the flow of the event. Also, our custom made ring bowl was dropped or something and broke, which really bummed me out. Its not the end of the world, and overall, I would not let trivial things like this ruin the night for me, but I will say it was not as smooth as I had hoped. All of my friends were aghast and could not believe that we saw her for probably about 15 mins total the whole night. Even my photographer was shaking his head at her... and he does tons of weddings in Cancun... I just sort of felt like I had been left there to figure it out on my own-- which was for me, not great and what I had wanted the WC to do, b/c I am not a real expert on the flow of a reception. I think if she had not had another event going on @ the same time, things might have gone much better. So ladies, don't let my experience worry you-- I think if there are no other events going on @ the same time as yours or you arent a big stickler for the organization of the reception flow, you will have no problems. And again, it was nothing so horrific that it ruined the event--- just not how I had hoped it would go-- it felt unorganized. The hotel has a great atmosphere-- it was smaller and less hectic than Cancun Palace, but still busy enough to not be boring... the pools werent as fabulous as some of the other Palace resorts, but were still nice and our group had fun at the pool bar and loved the ocean. The ocean is gorgeous! Definitely the nicest beach I saw among Cancun Palace, Sun Palace and LeBlanc.
  9. So this is what my WC is telling me re: the displacement fee... That Is correct, if you will use your own DJ you will pay $88.00 USD per person, however I’m talking about the displacement fee that covers the use of electrical power, table set up and linens for the table. The $88.00 USD that Mario comment you is only for people (outside vendors) As you mention before you are a frequent visitor of www.bestdestinationweddings.com Below please find the proved that we charge $250.00 USD per Audiovisual equipment, plus $88.00 USD per person. This is the link. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/72998/beach-palace-resort-weddings
  10. 11. They havent actually told me what the amount of the displacement fee is-- she just mentioned it and I told her that my prior WC had said I could waive the fee.... she asked for that email and I sent it to her, but havent heard back... I'll definitely let you know, but I am thinking its the vendor fee which I think is $300, right?
  12. I am going through this right now--- getting married this week and the prior WC I had told me -- or at least this is what I interpreted it to mean-- that the fee could be waived but I would need to pay guest pass fee for the DJ-- so @ this point-- days away, they are trying to stick this "displacement fee" on me and I am getting super frustrated with them. Those of you who have had the vendor fee waived- who agreed to that for you?
  13. Hi Liz-- After I sent the current WC the document the prior one had sent with the harpist fee, she agreed to lower it back to the original fee. I do have the original email that the first WC sent me where I had asked them to waive the outside vendor fee he said that the resorts usually dont allow outside DJs but if he comes with me then I will need to pay the guest pass fees and will have them there "at my own risk"... so in so much broken English I interpret this to mean-- I can waive it but you have him perform @ your own risk and have to pay guest pass fees for him and anyone who comes with him. I sent that email to my WC but I havent heard back from her yet... I'm hoping they dont spring that fee on me b/c less than a week out, I dont have an extra $300+ to pay for that fee as I have seen others get it waived. I've pasted the exchange below-- let me know if you read it to mean the same thing. 2) Can I get permission to book an outside DJ? This is the question I had been asking my Miami coordinator for months. I had heard from other brides on the bestdestinationwedding.com forum that sometimes the outside vendor fee can be waived. Based on my prior living hell with trying to get a response on this from Lauren Negrin (who even claimed her email crashed so she could not answer me for a month...) , I hope that the fee can be waived. Regarding to external vendors or companies usually the resort do not allow to do this, however if you want to bring this person with you, there is an additional charge for each one person than come with him (88 USD PER DAY PASS ) and is under your own risk.
  14. Cancun911-- I also had Lauren as a planner and she was incredibly horrible about replying. She in fact did not reply to me for more than a month and I had to email Yesenia and ask her to have Lauren reply to me. I wish I could say that once my wedding got closer I have a had a better experience-- however, lately they have been really annoying me! I get married next week and they did not think to explain that this whole time they have been recommending the Sky Terrace for my reception and telling me that its the better place to have it for my group size that it has been BOOKED for all but ONE hour that night since supposedly October 2010. My wedding is at 6pm, so there is really not much of an option for when the reception would be, so I dont think they handled this properly. When I was upset about this-- I emailed my onsite WC who didnt reply-- then I emailed her supervisor Gabriella and she basically told me to take a flying leap and they did nothing wrong. I get the impression they will tell you whatever you want to hear up until 1 week or so away then hit you with the reality of your situation. Additionally, my first onsite WC approved me having an outside DJ for only the guest pass fees, but now my new WC is trying to charge me some "displacement" fee. And the previous WC sent me a listing of all the prices for musicians, etc during the ceremony -- the fee was on there as $355.00 per hour, and now they are trying to charge me $450!!!! I am not happy.
