The WC didn't say we "had" to do the champagne toast & cake that way, but she said that is normally how it is done (if no cocktail hour).
At first it seemed a little strange to me, but now the more I think of it, I am beginning to like the idea more.
First, it will allow for daylight pictures of the cake cutting. Second, dessert is included with our dinner, so few people will be hungry for cake after a full dinner. If we cut the cake after the ceremony, people will probably be ready for a little snack. Third, since the private reception is only 3 hours, this is one less activity we need to do during our reception and will allow for more dancing, chilling, etc. And I guess 4th, we only have our photographer for 5 hours so cutting the cake after the ceremony will ensure our photographer is still available to capture the moment. That's so true! I hadn't even thought about the photograph potential! Thanks!
