  1. 2) We had the silver dinner package and our wedding coordinator printed out dinner menu cards for each place setting with our names, menu, and the wedding date. We didn't ask for it or have to pay for it but I was happy they did it. It was just printed on beige/yellowish paper not card stock. 3) As others have said there is no place to hang lanterns on Himitsu but there is on Portofino. 2) We sent our wedding coordinator a picture of what we wanted for our cake so we didn't see any other options. They probably do have different designs but it's just as easy to print off a picture of what you want and give it to them. I provided them with the ribbon that I wanted around the base of each layer. 3) We just used our ipod which was perfect for us since dinner/speeches took awhile so there wasn't a whole lot of time for dancing since we didn't book anymore than the 3 hrs you get for your reception. We just went to the disco after and had a great time.

I have a few questions to past and current brides: 2) I have heard on this thread that the cake for 10 people actually feeds about 30 people. Is that true? If so, should I only pay for cake for about 30 guests if I really have 60 attending? We ordered cake for 30 people and we had 37 and it feed everyone, I have no idea how much was left though because they cut it in the kitchen.

I need some help from past brides who visited Dreams. I want to put a list of extentions for the resort in my brochure for example, spa, front desk, room service etc. Do any of you either have an idea of a list of different areas of the resort that you think i can include in this list and or the extentions?? i dont expect any one to have the extentions but if you can give me an idea of what areas to include in this list that would be very helpful. so far i have front desk spa room service gym ala carte reservation dr's office (i dont even know if they have one of these on the resort) restaurants Thanks girls I kept one of the daily news/info sheet from my stay that they deliver to everyone's room, and it had some of the extensions on it, which I have listed below. There are others but I can't remember them, you can get other ideas from the welcome kit brochure they give you at the front desk when you check in. I have it if you want a copy. Spa - Ext. 6403 (**The spa has a brochure with daily specials for the week so go by there when you arrive and check them out so you can get good deals) Concierge Desk - Ext. 3000 Operator - Ext. 0 Explorer's Club (Kid's Club) - Don't know extension Core Zone (Teen Zone) - Don't know extension Internet Center? (I can't remember the exact name) where you can pay for wireless internet in your room - Don't know extension * They call the gym the Fitness Center just incase you want to be accurate? I'm sure all your guests would get the point though lol. Also there are no reservations at the restaurants except if you want to have the hibachi grill at Himitsu there are three booking times for that I believe, otherwise they serve you Chinese there. Yes, there is a doctor's office on the resort. If anyone wants a copy of the newsletter or the welcome kit brochure I can scan it and email it to you. Just PM me your email. The newsletter lists all the activities, bar/restaurant opening times, drinks of the day , special events, explorers club, etc. You can even request to have something listed at the bottom of it (i.e. a guests birthday, wedding, annivarsary, etc.), which would be nice touch if it is one of your guests birthday while your there. Side note - We stayed in room 8207 and it was nice room and it was renovated if your booking a basic deluxe room (tropical garden view, bathroom was large compared to other deluxe rooms we saw) so if your not upgrading to a suite then that is a nice deluxe room. Building 8 where several of our guests stayed had a lot of newly renovated rooms. Happy Wedding Planning/Easter!
  4. Wow... lots has been going on since I was last on here! Congratulations to all the upcoming brides! You will have the best time at Dreams!! Time definitely flys by quickly, I can't believe it's already been 2 1/2 months since our wedding. We got the bill for the whole wedding minus our deposit while we were getting ready in our room for the ceremony. We then had a day or so to look it over for any discrepancies and bring it to Carolina after we signed it. We didn't have to pay it until we checked out from what I remember. 5. I have PowerPoint slide pictures my WC had sent me of the different table cloth and chair bow colours they offer if anyone wants to see them. I agree with Ska Ska that they are rather expensive when you can get them online alot cheaper. We didn't use them, we just used the standard white table cloths and chair covers they already use and we brought our own napkins in our wedding colour.
  6. The resort will send out your stuff for steaming to their laundry room I believe. Atleast that is what they were going to do with my wedding dress (must be a minimum of 24hrs prior) but I was paranoid something would happen to it, so I just ended up putting a pillow case over the dress and ironing it with the iron in the room which worked (weren`t many wrinkles to begin with though). The dress was silk taffeta incase anyone was wondering, I don`t think this would work well with chiffon. I have a copy of the laundry list receipt prices from the resort and the only item close to a bow would be a hankerchief and they charge $3 for ``normal service`` which I`m assuming is wash and press. So it might be expensive to get the resort to do it unless they can give you a deal to steam them since you have 60. Quote: Originally Posted by ska2m To Shelly: I actually am thinking of bringing my own as $5.00 per bow is expensive when i'm going to need 120. (60 for ceremony and then 60 again for the reception) I can't imagine spending $600 on bows when online you can get them for SUPER Cheap, I'm talking $1 or less per bow. Couple things I'm torn about is 1) that if i do bring them, will they weigh a ton....with all these new restrictions on luggage amount/weight, i don't want to pay extra for luggage. 2) If i bring them with me, will i have to steam all 120 of them???? I can't imagine them not being wrinkled... I can probably see what the resort will charge to steam them, but i definitely don't want to be stuck in a room steaming bows. (Maybe like the organza material won't wrinkle?). I also asked the resort if I brought my own would they charge a set up fee and i was told no...so thank goodness for that.
  7. We did the complimentary wedding package and then added on extras such as silver dinner package, sound system, etc. and there wasn't any extra tax or gratuity added onto anything in our bill and we had 37 people so we had over the package limit. We paid the $620 for the 20 people then paid $31 for each person after that. Kids were half price and they had chicken fingers and fries (might have been vegetables? I can't remember). We did still tip the wait staff and our wedding coordinator at the end of the night though because they did a great job. Quote: Originally Posted by MsClarke724 Does anyone know about tax and gratuity? I read that services are subject to 27% tax and gratuity. I was curious about the additional people I will pay for that are not included with the package (whether I would need . Any one have experience with this or have any input? It would be much appreciated. PM me your email address and I'll send it. I had my ceremony at the gazebo and after seeing both setups I would say the gazebo is much more private. I have photos of the beach set up from both directions (but it's not fully decorated as they were just setting it up when I was walking by). I personally didn't really like the location of it especially if you have to pay extra to have the ceremony on the beach because your right beside the water activity rental stand, it would have been nicer spaced farther away from there and from the beach chairs but maybe you can ask the coordinator to change the location. I didn't even notice the spectators at the gazebo ceremony once I started walking, the only place I noticed them was when they would look into the reception while they were waiting for their drink at the bar or when one couple walked into the reception not realizing it was a wedding but they quickly walked back out so it was funny.
  8. I also forgot to mention there is a great little shopping market a few minutes down the road from the resort. They sell a bunch of larimar, coral, and amber jewelery plus vanilla, mamajuana, and other items. If you are walking out the front entrance of the resort, turn to your right and it is a short 10 minute walk and it will be the first bunch of buildings you see on your right. You'll see a white building first (I think it's the police station), usually one of the vendors walks out to the road to greet you so that you come to their booth first. Pretty much all the booths have the same things so it's easy to get a good deal because they don't want you to leave their booth to go to the next if you don't agree with their price. Just be sure if your buying larimar jewlery that you get them to burn it first so you know it's not fake. We asked them to do this at the market and they didn't have a problem with doing it. A friend of ours was sold fake larimar from the vendors on the resort.
  9. Thought I'd add in names of some of the good girly drinks we had if you like those kind because sometimes it takes almost the whole week to figure out the names of them! - Sammy Sosa - Dirty Monkey - Banana Mama - Miami Vice (with Rum) - Coco Loco (?) - Wow
  10. Hi Ladies, We had the best time, you will love the resort! Here is a recap of the wedding stuff went, it will probably be somewhat randomly since I'm pretty tired. Message me if you have other questions and I will try to answer them. I have pictures of all the terraces (not set up for weddings), and the huppa beach set up so let me know if you want to see them. Arrival/Meeting: We meet with Carolina the day after we got there, the wedding coordinators office is just around the corner from the reception desk near the cash exchange window. When you arrive for your meeting go right in and knock on the inside door, we didn't see the sign on the inside at first so we were waiting outside for a little bit. This meeting took about 30 minutes and we just went over everything we had emailed about and more and reconfirmed it all plus we added more things. She also let me know the time of our hair hair/nail appts at this meeting. Carolina also told us to bring all of our stuff to her office the morning of the wedding. Carolina was really great to work with and really nice and knows what she is doing, so don't stress about it, everything will be taken care of in this meeting. **We had requested a room for the groom for the night before the wedding and we were told we could pick up the key on Sunday after 4 and had to return it the next morning. We didn't end up using the room though because it smelled pretty moldy (which is common given the climate) probably because it was a handicap room and hadn't been rented out much so it wasn't aired out. It wasn't that big of a deal to us, as I just slept in one of my bm's room instead.** Ceremony (Gazebo): We got ready in our room, and Carolina brought us the flowers about an hour before the ceremony. After we got the flowers someone dropped off the bill for the wedding ( the amount was what we expected it to be, so there were no surprises). We then met Carolina outside and she brought us over to the lobby and explained how everything would go. We didn't think to bring music to play while the guests waited for us to arrive, but Carolina had some on her ipod and played that which we thought was great. The only really annoying thing (which had nothing to do with the resort or staff) was that some guy in a speedo walks right through the procession and cuts in front of my MOH mid walk! He could totally see it was a wedding because I watched him stop for a second beside another couple that waited for us then decide he had time to walk between my BM and MOH through he obviously didn`t walk fast enough because my MOH had to stop for a second as he cut her off. Other than that the ceremony was great, but some guests had trouble hearing us, since we weren't speaking loud enough to get our voices picked up by Carolina's microphone. Also sometimes the poles in the gazebo can partially block views of the BM's and GM's but they set up the chairs so this doesn't happen much. Reception (Portofino): Carolina met us out front of the Oceana restaurant (stairs to go up to Portofino are beside the bar in the Oceana restaurant). The view on the terrace is amazing, all our guests loved it as they hadn't been up there yet, and there was a fantastic breeze up there which is a lifesaver when you're wearing your dress! Just to answer the question of one of the other girls here, the terrace is not exactly private because you actually only get half the terrace/bar and the other half is for the guests waiting to get into the Portofino restaurant. It makes sense though that you can't deprive the other paying guests at the resort use of the terrace/bar, but it would be nice if the staff told them to be quieter as there is a wedding reception going on as we are also paying alot of extra money to use this space as well. There was one group of people that were really loud during our speeches and someone had to get up and ask them to be quiet which they did once they were told it was a wedding reception. To divide the space they set up some palm tree leaves as wall barrier between the reception and waiting area for the restaurant, but you could walk around either side of it and see into the reception. No matter which terrace your reception is on you'll have people who can see the reception, this one is the only one where it seems they are quite close by though, but everything else about the terrace makes it worth it! Food: *Most of the food we had picked happened to be available at the World Cafe so whenever I saw something on our menu I tried it out. The food at this resort is fantastic! All our guests loved it, no matter where they were eating. Assorted Dominican Appetizers (meat turnovers, chicken wings, etc) - these were good especially if you have people who are picky eaters, but I would probably try something different if you can since you can get these at the World Cafe and at the Oceana restaurant during the day. Dominican Sancocho (Meat Stew) - This was soooo good! Everyone loved it. Chicken Cordon Blue - Very Good! Kahlua Flan - Good, most guests ate it, but I did see a few plates that hadn't been touched but maybe some people might not like flan. Wedding Cake - Very Good. We ordered cake for 30 which fed 37 people. Reception Dancing: Dinner went on longer than we expected but we still had time to do our first dance plus the other parent dances and play some dance songs before our three hours ran out. We rented a sound system and used our Ipod then went to the disco after the reception. We did have to slide the head table back to make more room on the dance floor. All in all us and our guests had a great time, and would do it all over again the same way. Carolina was great, she came over a few times to make sure everything was going how we wanted it, and the rests of the staff were wonderful as well. I hope this helps ladies and best wishes for your wedding day
  11. We are here now at Dreams, and the place is amazing! Food is really good, and our wedding Carolina has been great so far. Carolina greeted us when we were checking in and told us to meet her the next day for our planning meeting which took about 30 minutes. She basically went over everything we had emailed back and forth about and reconfirmed all the details. Tomorrow is the wedding so hopefully everything goes smoothly!
  12. Great photos Samantha! I am down to less than a week till our wedding, so I will let you girls know how it goes when we get back!
  13. I emailed Sharon back in June 2010 and she sent me this website link to view the onsite photographers work: http://www.tropicalpictures.com.do/. I'm not sure if it is the same company still used but you can take a look and ask your WC. Try clicking on the search this thread button near the bottom of the page and typing in Himitsu terrace, I remember there being a few pictures of reception sites posted here. Also if you go to the "Dreams Punta Cana Brides!" or the "Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa" facebook pages there are a bunch of pictures from wedding there. Several are of the Himitsu terrace. Especially if anyone has pictures of floral centerpieces they got. Thanks ladies!
  14. Carey - I made hair appointments for me and my bridesmaids by email directly with the Spa about a month and a half before we get there, I also made manicure appointments directly with Carolina which she still has to confirm. I would make the appointments before you go, just to be on the safe side. Here is the Spa contact info if you want to email them: spa2.drepc@dreamsresorts.com The person I emailed back and forth with was Laura Guerrero.
  15. Great planning journal lilboltz! I will be getting married there in just under two weeks so I will let you girls know how it everything went when I get back!
