  1. We had an amazing wedding, we wouldn't have changed a thing. We were really easy going about everything though, as we didn't have a set idea in mind. We aren't really traditional adn knew that it wouldn't be like a catered at home kind of wedding especially since we weren't paying for the extras. We didn't pay for any of the extras (or even the champagne / cake). Our wedding was in the afternoon, then we took pictures with our wedding party and families then met at the a la carte restaurant for dinner, we had dinner and mingled for maybe an hour and a half. Then we met up with Patricia the wedding coordinator and she let us use a conference room to view a slideshow presentation i had made with music/pics. We brought our own projector/laptop down with us, so we didn't have to pay for anything extra. Then after that we went to the bar and just got drinks together. At the GPR there are little coves that have green kind of water around them with lots of chairs and a straw roof. We all went into one of those and did our speeches and had drinks and visited. Around the main bar area at the Grand Princess they have a live band and a little dance area and tables all around outside. The band was playing that song "you say it best when you say nothing at all" - I dont' know what it's actually called.. just those words... anyways so my husband and I danced and that was our first dance. Our families didn't really see it because they were in the little hut area sitting down and having drinks and visiting. We didn't have a dance with the parents or anything like that, which I think the mom's secretly regret. We thought about bringing down our ipod and a bose sound dock/speakers and doing our own dance on the beach. In hindsight, I think that might have been really cool. The private reception is probably worth the money if you want a more traditional type wedding where you don't miss out on anything. You really have to be easy going and not be really set on certain details if you are going to go the route of note going with the private reception, because some things are possible - and some aren't. I felt really out of control, but by the time I was down there enjoying our vacation and drinking mojitos I found the little things didn't really matter to me as much. I could put it into perspective and was just so happy to be marrying the greatest person I've ever known. I found Patricia to be an absolute superstar though, she was happy to help with any and everything.
  2. I got married at the Grand Princess Riviera on Feb 1/2010. We choose to get married on the beach, because it was what we had always pictured - but the gazebo is beautiful. If you want to check out my photos they are at Saskatoon Photographers Saskatoon Wedding Photographers Memories by Mandy Photography in the blog under the March tab on the side to find them. Patricia was our wedding planner and she was an absolute sweetheart! I can't sing her praises high enough, she's a doll. Ever detail was taken care of, and even when I was asking for over the top things, she just smiled and said Don't worry Robyn - it's no problem! Amazing lady!
  3. P.S. SUZY - excellent review! I couldn't agree more. We thought the resort was amazing and so clean - pure class. The food, I would've rated the same as you. I wasn't a big fan of the food to be honest.
  4. We got married on February 1, 2010 at the Grand Riviera Princess and we were so blessed to have Patricia as our wedding planner. From day one, she was like a friend to us - or maybe more like a fairy godmother with a magic wand making all of our dreams and wishes come true. No matter the question or the detail, she had it taken care of and was an absolute pleasure to talk to. At first, I was a little leary planning a destination wedding because I felt very out of control and couldn't do a lot of things myself or know exactly how it would be. Patricia, put me at ease and didn't miss any details. We were so well taken care of, and she really went above and beyond our expectations. On our wedding day, our guests commented on what a pleasure Patricia the wedding planner is and how we lucked out by having her. Our wedding at the Grand Riviera Princess was an absolute dream come true. We honestly wouldn't have changed a thing. The resort was so classy and made us feel very special with the extra touches like a welcome basket in the room, special decorations in the room, a golf cart ride to the wedding spot, beautifully set up chairs, every detail was carefully thought of by Patricia! There were so many special details that it's too numerous to list them all in a letter, but they will never be forgotten by my husband and I and our families. They will be memories that are in our hearts forever. We have some beautiful professional photos of our wedding that really showcase just how beautiful the resort is and the ocean and beaches. If you want to check out some of our photos I'd be happy to send them. We have some really ones of the "details" too, like the wedding set up, dinner with decorations and placecards, etc. My email address is robynzaharia@gmail.com My husband and I are also talking about coming back for our anniversary because we loved the area, the rooms, pools, resort, ocean, beach & most of all the people so much.
  5. Hi Ladies! I forgot my log in to this site, and was happily surprised to see that you replied to me. How awesome - I feel special now. I've been soooo busy getting ready. I have wedding branding created and cute little tags for everything with our names, mayan riviera and feb 1/10 on them. Our slideshow is complete and I'm so proud of it. I used the song "this is our life" by Mary Beth Mariez (I think I'm spelling it wrong). It's so fitting and makes the mom's cry (in a good way). Then I used Stealing Cinderella for my pics growing up, and a beatles song for my fiances pics. Thank you so much for the link to everyone sharing their ceremony scripts. You just saved me a big headache and I'm so grateful to you for posting it. We leave in 2 days, and our legal wedding is tonight. We are just having 2 witnesses and eating Hunan Kung Pao chicken! yay! I just hope I don't put on a lot of weight before our wedding happens and my dress fits. We've been eating really healthy for the last couple months and now I'm too small for my clothes. It's very strange, I haven't been a size 25 since I was probably 11 years old. I can't wait to get to the resort and do a shot of tequila with everyone! I'm over the moon excited. All the best to you wonderful, kind hearted, generous spirit and beautiful women on this forum. You are going to make the most gorgeous brides ever!!
  6. Hi Ladies! What a cool thread you have started with lots of info/advice/support and friendship too! Sorry to bud in, but I saw that someone mentioned buying the things for the sand ceremony at pier 1. I've heard that beautiful speech about the sand combining into one, and wondered if anyone had the wording to help me out and if they wouldn't mind posting it. We are getting married on Feb 1 at the Grand Princess Riviera. My "to do" checklist is huge! I thought this destination wedding stuff was supposed to be stress free!
