  1. I originally wanted Moon Palace also, but i was too turned off the seaweed on the beach. I am getting married at the chapel at the gran caribe. I have not seen it in person though but it looks just soo beautiful. November is in hurricane season for mexico. Have you considered another month? but dont worry no one can predict the weather- it can rain no matter where u get married really. I am getting married in July which is technically rainy season so i get worried too. But keep in mind i also picked the gran over moon palace because their rates and packages are much cheaper!
  2. all i can say is WOW! Your MOH is def acting strange! after all that, she wants to go with you and act involved and has the nerve to hang up on you!!! I really hope the situation gets better for you. As you said previously, everyone clearly was aware of their duties as bridesmaid and MOH. I'm thinking maybe she started to get jealous of the bride? good luck and keep us posted. Also thank u for your advice regarding my fiancee's fam. We are working on that now. He will sit there and say,"i really want my mother there, etc but look at that torquoise sea!! lol Thank you ladies!! ANd it is true, having a destination wedding brings out the worst and best in people

  4. I feel your pain!! three of my bridesmaids dropped out, and now the airfare is higher than my original quote and there a lot of people that dont want to go now and i am sooo upset! and also my fiancee's fam is being difficult and he only has his brother attending!! Im faced with a dilemma...do i go ahead with the wedding in cancun MY DREAM!!! or do i cancel due to his family not being present. Its so hard to be excited when u have people bringing you down. I think your MOH is acting horrible, forget the boyfriend she should be there for her best friend and since she already accepted< WTF?! and i also have guests that want be to do all the leg work to find them cheap deals! im soo stressed out....I thought having a destination wedding was supposed to be less stressful
  5. congratulations! 50 people is a great number! I'm estimating about 25-30 i hope!! havent got responeses back yet
  6. I am from long island and will be getting married at the chapel at the gran caribe cancun. I agree a destination wedding is more beautiful and different than the typical weddings at home at villa lombardis! you pay less and get more time than four to five hrs!

I'm getting married in the catholic chapel inside the Gran Caribe Real and I really wish I had done this site visit before I put the deposits and confirmed everything. The chapel is beautiful just as pictured in the photos. However the entrance to the chapel is not what I expected... you have to go through a really loud and super busy lobby just to get to the chapel. The path from the lobby to the chapel is very long with a lot of turns so it's easy for guests to get lost. When I asked the coordinator if there would be signs or a staff member guiding guests, she said no. Then they told me that I only have 30 minutes after the ceremony to take photos. We have to leave after 30 minutes because they have another wedding after mine. When I asked if there was another place to take pictures she said no. The day of my wedding, I have to enter the chapel through stairs that are to the immediate right of the chapel entrance so the walk down the aisle is VERY short. I can't even imagine how I'll get good pictures walking down the aisle because you literally come down the stairs and you are right inside the chapel. The coordinator showed me another way to get in the chapel where the walk would be a little longer. That entrance requires that I go through a kids club where there is a pool with games splashing water. Going through that entrance would mean running a risk of getting wet before arriving in the chapel. I asked if they could stop the water games from splashing out water for just 2 or 3 minutes while I walked through there and they said no. I asked if I could just wait in a kids club room where they have tables and chairs for kids to watch tv and read. I figured I could just hide in there until the guests arrive so that I could have my walk down the long aisle. You guessed it, the answer was no. I'm also having my rehearsal dinner at the Gran Caribe and I asked the coordinator MONTHS ago if I could have it on the beach. She confirmed in writing but during the site visit she couldn't remember confirming the beach so she insisted that the rehearsal dinner was in another location. I had to correct her about my ceremony time FOUR times in a matter of 10 minutes. She kep saying the wedding was at 2pm or 4pm even though we have confirmed that it will be a 3pm. I corrected her and literally 5 minutes later she said the wrong time again. I'm really at my wits end. The most frustrating part is that they are not accomodating or flexible at all. She pushes back on everything I ask for and never provides solutions or alternatives. I've had problems with this resort from the beginning and I just wish I went with my instincts from the beginning. I'm so stressed out because I have no confidence that these people will do a good job on my wedding day. They are not organized at all, the communication has bee horrible and they are making no effort to accomodate me with anything. I spoke to her manager and she's probably worse than the coordinator - a very arrrogant and unpleasant lady. My advice to anyone planning a wedding there is to do a site visit before confirming and get everything in writing. I'm really dissapointed and upset. I had such a pleasant experience with everyone else I'm dealing with in Cancun. I'm having my reception at Le Meridien and I thank God for that decision. The Wedding Planner at Le Meridien is the complete opposite of the one at Gran Caribe. She has been a dream to work with - very professional, organized and pleasant. She is making every effort to ensure I have the wedding of my dreams. The reception place is gorgeous and everything exceeded my expectations in every way. I'm going to try to find a new place for a rehearsal dinner because the fewer events at Gran Caribe the better. Sorry for the rant but I'm on the verge of tears right now. I am soo sorry! I am also getting married at the chapel and i am disappointed that the aisle wont be long.....i wanted a decent length aisle to walk down as well. i can only say that i hope everything works out for us and the photographers are pros and can get great shots anyway.. are u using their photographer? i was thinking of booking an outside photographer
  8. i am having my ceremony at the gran caribe and the reception at the royal so my guests can see both hotels. my fiancee and i are also going to be staying by ourselves at the Royal. i havent decided on a location yet to have the reception though. did the hotel send anyone pics of choices? i didnt get as far as picking out the menu...I am keeping my fingers crossed that the food is good!!! I was also thinking about booking moments that matter photagraphy. their work looks beautiful!! i am a little nervous about the resort photographer i have not seen anything by them. please post your review of the food at the royal when you go for the tasting thanks! my wedding date is July 10 2010
  9. congrats!!!! I am also having a catholic ceremony at the Gran Caribe in Cancun. i plan to get married in the US first simply because it is cheaper and easier but im sure it will all work out if u decide to get married legally in Mexico. I do know that you have to pay for blood tests there and stay for four days with four witnessess. Good luck!
  10. congrats! i am also having a catholic wedding at the Gran Caribe Real Resort in July 2010. Good luck and please post pics of your wedding!
  11. I highly recommend using a travel agent to contact resort and book. I had trouble contacting on my own. When I have a question she contacts the resort for me and sometimes they take a little while to respond but they always get back. I just booked the chapel through my agent with no problem. I recommend getting married back home first legally and then have the church wedding there. It's easier and cheaper that way. U also need precana classes at home through the church then u send the certificate with your baptism certificate to the priest over there. Like I said I would use a travel agent so she can send all the documents for you and tie up all the loose ends! Hope this helps

  14. thanks for the great review! sounds fabulous. do you know if the hotel let your gran caribe guests over for the ceremony/reception without paying a fee?
  15. my fiancee and i have decided on the royal cancun as well. i am looking at july 2010. my travel agent has been taking care of talking to the resort for me and they do take a while to get back with information. i want to have the ceremony next door at the sister hotel the gran caribe because they have a catholic chapel. i am hoping to have the reception at the royal though. i agree....the wedding packages seem to be the most affordable. i am dying to see pics of receptions/ceremonies there. good luck and congrats=)
