  1. We also hired the services of Michael Weiler for our April 22nd wedding at the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana - he is truely an AMAZING photographer...and fun to work with! He is down to earth and patient! We paid $1000.00 and received a hardcover photobook with 200 pictures (beautiful!), 75 prints and a cd with over 500 photos!!!! We were married on Thursday, met with him Friday morning for an hour to pick out our photos, and he had our package ready for us on Saturday afternoon! Now that's service!!!! Â Â Â Â Â
  2. My husband and i were married at the Bahia resort in April 2010 - the Esmeralda is a new section to the right of the Bahia Principe section. It is beautiful but a different lay out than the Principe and Bavaro hotels. The rooms are located in large 5 or 6 story buildings, whereas with the Principe and Bavaro hotels the rooms are in 3 or 4 story villas which are located all over the resort. When we were there in April the grounds around the Esmeralda werent finished and the gates had not yet been installed at the opening to the resort. It looked empty, but i could be wrong. i bet its beautiful inside though! Melissa
  3. Did you try Michael Weiler - excellent photographer!!!!!! ...and reasonably priced! http://www.weddingpuntacana.com/ melissa
  4. Hi Kim, Are you planning to have a legal ceremony, or a symbolic (which means that you are not legally married)? For the symbolic, most couples get married by the justice of peace, or a minister at home prior to the ceremony to make it legal (this is the easy way, but not as exciting in my opinion). If you want to have a legal marriage ceremony in Dominican you need to have some documentation translated and legalized. It sounds like a lot of work, but its not really that bad. If you visit the below website, it tells you step by step what you need to do... If you have any questions, just email or call them...they are wonderful to work with...and they are very quick at getting your documents back to you... We used the first link... http://www.dominicanweddings.net/requirements.htm http://www.wedo.com.do/ If you visit the certificate tab on the first link, you will see that in order to be able to change your name with some organizations the certificate does need to be translated and legalized by the Dominican embasy in Canada... If you need more details, please let me know. Hope this helps! Melissa
  5. Hi girls, my fiance and i were married at the Gran Bahia in April 2010 and from my experiences i would just get one of your bridesmaids to do your hair. Dont get me wrong, the spa staff are amazing and i had the most wonderful massage there, but my hair did absolutley nothing in the heat and humidity. I was hoping to wear it down and curly so i booked my appointment at the spa (costs about $90usd). They curled it and put my extensions in for me, but by the time i walked from the spa to the room, it was flat. So i put it up in a bun and stuck a lily in it...it was really pretty. I'm glad that i ended up wearing it up because it was so hot (+33) that i would have died with it drapped over my neck and back!!! If your hair is fine in the humidity then it might be worth it, but i find that a simple look is best for a caribbean wedding! Much more natural looking... Just my thoughts... Good luck! Melissa
  6. The Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana is an amazing resort. My husband and I were married there in April 2010 - everything was PERFECT!!! The price was reasonable and the resort was immaculate. There was a ton of entertainment and the main pool was so fun during the day! The beach is perfect and there is alot to do at this resort because of its size! If you have any questions about this resort let me know! Good luck! Melissa
  7. It is not easy to use travellers cheques in Dominican, from my experiences. My now husband and i were married at the Gran Bahia in April 2010 and brought our money in the form of travellers cheques. The wedding staff said that we would have to go downtown to cash them ourselves and bring the cash back to pay for our wedding, or they could cash them for us but there would be an extra fee, which wasnt cheap. We decided that the easiest way is to pay with our credit card. it worked out well though. We cashed the cheques when we got home and paid off our card...
  8. Hi girls, Here is our review of our PERFECT Gran Bahia wedding in April 2010. First off, i think we were the last couple to be able to use an outside photographer. We had Michael Weiler photograph our wedding and he was absolutely amazing! He made us the most incredible wedding album! When he arrived, he received a call from the main lobby informing him that from now on there would be an additional charge of $500 to bring in outside photographers... If you would like to check out some of our pictures, visit his website under Weddings - Melissa & Justin http://www.weddingpuntacana.com/Information.html When we arrived at the resort we were greeted by our wedding coordinator, Gleny - she is the most amzing person you will ever meet! We had an express check-in (i felt bad for our 40 guests as they had to do a group check-in) and were handed some yummy tropical drinks. They took us to our room which was fully decorated with balloons, flowers, champagne and deserts. Our room was gorgeous and had an awesome view of the pool which is beautiful all lit up at night. The next morning we met with our WC again to go over all the details of our wedding. We picked our flowers and decorations. We had emailed a picture of the cake that we wanted and they made it exact to the picture. It was beautiful. We brought our own cake topper. We paid for the Unforgettable package which is the best one they offer, and by far our wedding was the most beautiful one that week. They went above and beyond with our flowers which was one of the most important details to me. I wanted to have TONS of flowers and they definetly did that for us!!! We had a private reception at the terrace overlooking the main pool! it was gorgeous. I brought about 100 candles (tealights and votives) which were placed all over the terrace to light it up. They spread flower petals everywhere and all our flowers from the gazebo were brought down to the reception. We also hired a DJ which was a relief because we did not have to worry about music. He played excellent music for dinner and had a huge variety of songs to choose from. Alot of our guests were requesting songs throughout the night. We also had an open bar from 9pm to 1am because that was the only way were we allowed to keep the reception going so late - it was totally worth it! After 1 pm we took the party to the disco, then to the beach for some swimming to end the night. All in all, our wedding was everything we could have ever dreamed of...and the staff allowed us to enjoy the week with our family and friends without being stressed and worrying about how everything would turn out. A couple tips for you is to get a list going of all your guests room numbers because it is VERY hard to find people at this resort - due to the size. The resort booked our group's a la carte meals ahead of time (we were able to change them though) so it would have been handy to have all our guests room numbers to let them know dinner plans. We managed to get everyone together though. If you have any questions, or would like additional information or details let me know. Good luck - and there is really nothing to worry about at this resort...wedding are their specialty!! Melissa
  9. Michael Weiler is also an excellent photographer - my husand and i were married at the Gran Bahia report in April 2010! Michael did an amazing job with our photos!!! Here is his site... http://www.weddingpuntacana.com/Information.html And he makes the most beautiful wedding albums - check out our pictures under Weddings - Melissa & Justin
  10. Hi girls, My husband and i were married at the Gran Bahia resort on April 22, 2010 and it was absolutley perfect! The wedding staff are amazing and probably the nicest girls you will ever meet! They made it so easy for us to enjoy our week with our 40 guests and not have to worry at all about wedding plans. You will have a wonderful time, and the resort is beautiful. The only advice i have is to get a list of all your guests room numbers because it is hard to locate people at this resort. It is huge, but easy to find your way around. If you stick to the main trolly line, it will take you just about anywhere! When you arrive, the wedding coordinator will have a time set up for a meeting. We met with her the morning after we arrived and went through all the details (it took a couple hours), picked out flowers and talked about how the day will go. Everything turned out just as planned! They are very busy with weddings, but they will accomodate for anything that you ask for. All of our flowers were gorgeous!!! They were the nicest tropical flowers i have ever seen! If you are looking for a wedding photographer, the resort does have one on site. We decided to go outside the resort and hired Michael Weiler to take care of our photos - he is absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced! He makes the best wedding albums! He is very fluent in english and easy to talk to. During the ceremony he was getting close-up shots and i honestly dont even remember seeing him there...i have no idea how he got some of those photographs! i will try to attach some photos for you to have a look at... Also if you want to see some of our pictures, go onto the following site and look up Melissa & Justin under the weddings section http://www.weddingpuntacana.com/Information.html If you have any questions or would like more details let me know - i spent over a year planning our wedding so i can probably answer just about any question with regards to this resort. Good luck! Melissa

I had chosen the beach, but am growing concerned as I've seen some of the strange photos that people have there Claire Hi Claire, Congrats! You must be getting very excited!!! I know the feeling...! We are having our ceremony under the gazebo as i think we will have a lot more privacy there. I have seen pictures of beach ceremonies and there are people sitting literally right beside your guests, on their beach chairs. The beach tends to get VERY busy! Have you seen the garden gazebo - it is quite pretty as well. There are a couple of them to choose from. Let me know if you would like me to send you pictures... Just over two months to go!! Are you bringing any of your own decor for the reception? Melissa
  12. My Fiance and I are getting married on April 22,2010 at the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana - three months and a week to go!!!! If anyone has any reviews, i would be interested to hear them. Thanks!
  13. Hi Girls, My fiance and I are getting married on April 22, 2010 at the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana. We have 45 guests joining us and are having a private reception on the Piscis Terrace. Thank you for all posting information and questions. Its also great to hear review from "experienced" brides - thanks! We were told that in order to have our reception extended until 12pm, we would have to purchase an open bar for any time after 10:30pm. I would also like a variety of drinks available starting at 8:30pm...so am thinking that i will need to order bar service from 8:30 to 12pm, but its not cheap. I'm relieved to hear that there are alot of flower choices - its one of my top priorities to have beautiful flowers. Does anyone know if the judge speaks English, or will the ceremony be performed in Spanish and translated i've also heard that the ceremonies are very short (15 minutes or so) and that its a good idea to write your own vows if you want to extend that time. Any thought We've picked the Unforgettable wedding package as we wanted the "dinner for two" option for the following night. Less than four months to go!!!!!
  14. Thank you for the reassurance Tasha! My fiance and I are getting married at the Gran Bahia on April 22, 2010 with 45 family and friends beside us. I was a little concerned about the change in the Wedding Coordinator as i have been dealing with Cinthya the whole time. Gleny seems to be great in responding to my emails which is a relief. Did you use the photographer at the resort? I'm trying to choose one and am tossed up between Michael Weiler or Arrencife (on location). Any suggestions? We are having a private reception on the Piscis Terrace - and also paying for bar service for the last couple of hours, as we want our reception to go until 12pm. Thanks again for your post - its so reassuring to hear great things from experienced brides!!
