  1. We got married on the 9th of June at Valentin Imperial Maya. I was really nervous about the Valentin. I had the resort booked for a year. I never had to pay an $800 deposit. I had my TA check several times that our wedding date was still confirmed. It was kinda chaotic. After arrival, I had an appointment to meet with the wedding coordinators (2) on Saturday at 10am. Everything went well. I was able to pick my flowers out from pictures they had online. I didn't find what I wanted there so I custom made my own. They arrived to my room at 2pm on my wedding day and we beautiful and just what I asked for. We did the private reception in the LObster Pot. People were eating in that restaurant. However, we were off to the side in a private area with 2 waiters. We had our own sound system. Everyone said that you couldn't hear the music while dining in the Lobster Pot. We cut our cake here because we wanted to use the beach for additional picture time. The private cocktail party was in the Gazebo. Everyone was there while we finished taking our pictures. They said the food was great. The WC didn't want to serve liquor there. Not sure why, but I laid out my requests and stated that if we couldn't get them met, we would be happy to take them off the resort and do the reception somewhere else. After this mild threat, I got everything I wanted. They set up a full bar at the Gazebo. The dinner at the reception was great. FOur Courses...all of them delicious. The cake- I originally ordered the chocolate. The WC messed up and sent a 3 milk cake. I am very happy for the accident. The cake was wonderful. They send it to your room after the wedding so we ate some the next day. All of the small details were really taken care of. I was very impressed by this. The people showed up to get the dress and the suit on time for pressing. It was returned by 1pm. They breakfast in bed the next day...they called just like they were supposed to. They wedding CD was playing at 4:30 on the beach for the wedding guests to listen to. Both coordinators were at the wedding and stayed with us until dinner was served. Any problems I had I just told them and they fixed it right away. Flowers. I ordered a bouquet of 3 gerber daisys and one tropical flower for my bridesmaid. It was almost $90. So, be careful if you are ordering a lot of extra bouquets. It seems like they are disorganized, but I think they do a fabulous job. I have seen destination weddings at Barcelo and it did not go nearly as smooth. All of the small details were not taken care of. So, I am really happy with the results. The wedding photographer...Marco...he is amazing. We had some really good shots and we had some just okay shots. However, our package came with 36 photos...I have showed most of my family and they all are in amazement of how good they are. (I can't figure out how to post pics on this website or I would. I have tried a few times) Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to email me at h_rosenthal99@hotmail.com. I will write a resort review on trip advisor today and see if I can post pics there. Hope this helps
  2. I am starting to really stress out. My TA emailed the WC to confirm the date and time 3 days ago and she still has not responded. My hubby to be and I have already discussed other reception options, such as taking everyone into Playa for a reception off the resort. I am really irritated with how poorly these weddings are being handled. On the other hand, I am really excited to be going to Mexico in one week. I just hope when I get there, the WC is more knowledgeable than she is acting. It is really frustrating to see family and friends spend this much money on a vacation and the WC can't even get her act together. I hope all goes well. I am praying for the best case scenario. Soon to be Powers- when do you get in to Mexico?
  3. Colby, so sorry to see you go...We are leaving in 22 days and I am so excited. The bachelorette party is this weekend...it's getting closer. Soon to be powers...what did you decide to do? Hope you decided to stay. I emailed the Center for Disease Control. They said everything was fine...just get some Tamiflu before you go. Let me know if you have any questions. But, I am sure you already figured that out. Can not wait to leave.
  4. What are the ribbons for, the wedding or the reception? Does anyone know what the chairs look like for the wedding? Do they come with any detail? Less than 2 months...the nerves are starting to kick in!
  5. I have not heard about the times for the wedding...I put down for 4:30 and no one has told me anything different...but my TA does all of that stuff and I don't ask any questions. As far as the menu, you can choose one option from each choice with the exception of the soups or appetizer..you can only pick one from both choices (if that makes sense). Soon to powers...I have been to a few destination weddings and I know that usually the day you get there that the wedding coordinator will meet with you and go every detail until your heart is content. It usually takes about 3 hours. I don't know if this helps ease you mind. As for the programs I would just print the scheduled time that you already have...I am sure that the Valentin will keep that time...they only do one wedding a day. I have no idea what the centerpieces look like, sorry I am no help. I have 2 months and 1 day until the wedding..58 days til I leave. I can't wait. The June brides should figure out a time to meet up at the resort and meet in person..aren't we all there at the same time atleast for a day? Talk to you all soon Hailey
  6. Hello, two quick things.. If your wedding is in Mexico, some scented candles might be nice....I am using the glade ones and peeling off their sticker and placing my own. I just used clear address labels. Two..with the meds...see if you can find someone that works at a hospital. Those people generally get great prices on generic meds.
  7. Soon to be Powers, I didn't realize that the minister did all the weddings...I thought he only did the religious ones..so I guess I should worry about that now too. I asked for my wedding to be at 5. I guess I just assumed he would be there at that time.. Hailey
  8. I really like the pics...thank you for posting them! Soon to be Powers: I haven't heard anything about the centerpieces. Also, no idea about the minister..we are not using one so it isn't even a question of mine. Cant' wait....
  9. Colby, Thanks for the update. I was wondering what phone number you used to call down there. I couldn't use the 1800 number posted on their website. Also, when going over this planning, did anyone mention anything about paying $450 extra for the waiters to do the extra parties.... Did you get the middle wedding package...That is what we got. Only four months to go!!!
  10. Hello, all you soon to married women, First, I wanted to tell you that my travel agent emailed over a HUGE list of questions to Valentin about a month ago....and yesterday we received some answers. So, they do reply back..it just takes FOREVER. For those of you going through the middle package with the reception, you can have the cocktail party upon arrival and then do the reception later. They will set up a sound system on the beach for you to play music. 36 pictures are included in that package. You can pick you cake and flowers when you get there. (Those are easy decisions) SoontobePowers...are you getting married here in STL beforehand? That's what we are doing because I didn't want to have to worry about all of the details that goes along with getting married in Mexico. DOn't tell any of my family though!!! Just Kidding Day trips...this will be our third time to this part of MExico. Last time, we took a taxi to Playa del Carmen and then took a $20 ferry ride over to cozumel. We rented a moped and drove around the island all day..we had so much fun. So, this time we are renting four jeeps in COzumel for all of our guests. We made all of these arrangements by ourselves bc alot of the excursions the resort tries to book are overpriced and come with a really long wait bc there are so many people doing them. I would suggest picking up a FRommer's (travel guide) or looking it up online so that you are aware of all the options. The cab ride from the resort to Playa we heard was about $25 one way. That's not bad, considering these cab drivers will take advantage of the fact that you are a tourist. If you want to book excursion and have all of the details taken care of, then I would suggest that you go through the people in the resort. When you arrive, they will schedule an appointment with you and explain all of the touristy things to do. They will book everything and make sure you have rides to each place. NOt a bad option, but like I said earlier, we booked a trip to go to Tulum, we got on a huge bus and had to stop at like four other resorts...pick up people and then drive to Tulum. This took up a majority of the day. But, aleast you don't have to worry about the details. LEt me know if I didn't answer clearly or if you want the jeep rental place's info. The ferry tickets you can't buy in advance but there are ticket booths all over the ocean side of Playa. IT is not hard to get a ferry ticket. Hailey
  11. By the way...looks like i will be there for both Colby and Soon to be Powers weddings....
  12. Okay, chomping at the bit..can't wait to be there. We purchased wedding bands yesterday...making it even more exciting that the time is coming near. So far, for my gift bags I have: 24oz insulated cups for the guest glade candles (mexican rooms sometimes smell like mold) A copy of Frommer's for MExico (travel guide) Iteneriary for the day trips (Cozumel) Guess I should go to target and the dollar store to find some more little stuff. Are you all putting these items in your luggage? Thank you very much for the advice...appreciate it, like your ideas bc trying to keep the price down. The cups were expensive.
