  1. It's very professional of them to honour the previous prices! I'm rather upset about their new outside vendor policy...for some reason the work of mos tresort photographers seems to be a bit sub-par for wedding photography! I'm sure things will sort themselves out
  2. That's great that you feel you're finally making some progress! We're not marrying for an additional 10 months after you, but at the rate I'm going I feel like I haven't accomplished ANYTHING! It took us 2 months just to set a date. The Royal is still my safe bet, as all my other ideas have just fallen through for some reason or another...and keep doing so! It must have felt fantastic buying your dress!
  3. El Dorado Royale is on of the locations on my list for weddings. However, since Easter week seems to be the week that works the best for most people to take holidays, I suppose Easter weekend will be our wedding date. Karisma resorts apparently don't perform weddings during Easer weekend. Boo! Does anyone have any information regarding having your ceremony off-resort and organising a reception dinner on-resort? Is this possible? Can you still organise a dinner at their all-inclusive restaurant? cheers!
  4. You're the first Royal bride I've seen to show actual photos of the food...you definitely calmed my nerves in that regard. You wedding party also seems like it will be the size on mine. It looked like you all had such a great time! You look gorgeous! The lounge furniture, abosolutely right about setting the mood and balancing out the decor. Lovely!
  5. Excellent! That makes me feel a lot better. The Royal is still at the top of my list, but since I'm not getting married for another 18 months, I change my mind every three days! The quality of food is a top priority for me, probably more so than my dress Thanks for that!
  6. For those of you settling on The Royal versus any other hotels in the area... What are your opinions as to the difference in cost of wedding receptions between the Royal and other resorts? Meaning, the difference in price per person in nearly 50% more at a resort like El Dorado Royal or The Royal Hideaway. The hotels all seem to be equally as gorgeous but the Royal's reception options are just so affordable in comparison -- not to mention open to using outside vendors! Would anyone think that the food is of lesser quality? Is it because there is no varied choice in menu? Or it's the difference in not charging for a day pass on top of the private reception price? Thoughts? Kind of in a bind...
  7. I feel the same way you do about music as well. I would get a few more opinions from other wedding planners. Planners in the area seem to have their preferred vendors. I was told by one planner that there was only one beach club in Playa del Carmen where a reception could be held, while another has recommended 4 options. One cannot offer the music choice I requested as "it's not something they have available" while another gave me several. I'd ask around... The planner I am considering contracting has a sound system for microphones, CDs and iPods available for her clients to use for $250. I don't know whether this is portable or not. It's a bit odd that isn't a single portable public address system available in Playa del Carmen with all the weddings that take place on the beaches. I will ask her about the sound system for you and let you know the specs. Cheers.
  8. Hello all! After much debate, I think we might have a Royal wedding as well. Well, we plan on having the wedding reception there anyways. The quote I received for the wedding reception is just too good to pass up! I've looked at all-inclusive resorts with rediculous day pass charges, restaurants and beach clubs with expensive open-bar fees and private catering at a villa rental and everything just points back to the Royal. It also seems that the Royal is really keen to accept outside vendors of all sorts, which is great. We're not getting married until Easter Week 2010...that's ages from now. But I guess if I resever vendor services early enough I won't be disappointed. Yay for Royal Brides!
  9. Hello! I asked this same question some weeks back. I contacted a wedding planner with this question and their response was that because of the lack of facilities only live music could be played, but with the aid of an amplifier. This is only partially true, I reckon. How do music festivals set up in the middle of the dessert and blast their music for 3 days straight Amplifiers and generators. I'm sure that there is a way to organise this in the same way that there are portable PA systems for officiants to use at ceremonies. For about $250 you can get a portable PA system with an iPod docking station that got very good reviews, so I'm sure that when it gets down to the actual planning SOMEONE will be able to play the music you want
  10. Thanks for your resonses! They're all great! We are kind of in a bind about what sort of wedding combo we want to have. Option 1 would be have a wedding ceremony on a semi-private stretch of Playacar Beach, for which I'm pretty sure we need a non-resort WC to help us plan and then for the reception, rent a luxury beachfront villa, also in Playacar, and have a caterer provide food and have a furniture rental company set up a fabulous lounge/dinning area with a dance area --all on the beach. This option will require some serious planning, but will be sort of a one-of-kind event. I have a rough idea of how much this will cost. Option 2 would be to still have the wedding ceremony on the beach and then bus or limo everyone to the Royal for a beachfront wedding reception, with similar set-up to as mentioned before but done under the coordination of the hotel WC. The advantage of this option is I kind of already know how much it will cost, I just need to find out whether it's possible to set up a tent area with a bit of lounge furniture underneath it and globe lanterns. It's their beach, I'm sure they can do what they want on it, right? Save for bonfires. It seems like at the moment our families are keen to use their timeshare weeks, which means that maybe the majority of us will not be staying in Playa del Carmen. We plan to stay at La Tortuga Hotel and Spa for part of the time and then move over The Royal for the festivities on our last few days. Since we plan on our group being smallish -- around 30 -- the privacy of these two options sound good. thoughts?
  11. Hello all! My partner and I are planning on getting married in Playa del Carmen, Mexico during easter week 2010 -- not next year, but the next one (geez, huh?). I've contacted pretty much every wedding coordinator in the area and have a feeling on who might be the best fit for what we want. I've contacted and recieved responses from: -Weddings in Playa -Ajua Weddings -Caribbean Blue Weddings -Mica de Miralls -Yazmin de la Mora (I believe Sol Tamargo used her...) -Zulma and Walter at The Royal, Playa del Carmen I live in Australia so site visits are out of the question... Based on how professional and informative their responses were, Weddings in Playa and Yazmin de la Mora are my top choices. Yazmin de la Mora is actually my top choice at the moment, as she made it very clear that she has all the resources to make ANYTHING happen and included a price list for all of her services. Does anyone have any personal references they might want to offer on any of these coordinators? You can send me a private message, if that's more comfortable for you. Thanks heaps!
  12. Hey there! I just went to the website of cueva del chango. So cute! I've been in contact with a few wedding coordinators in the area about beach weddings are there in one that organises beach weddings on a semi-private beach area of Playacar, which is at the other end of where the Cueva is located. Before the resort area of Playacar. I am considering this place if I don't do it as a resort. They're Caribbean Blue Weddings. The quote I recieved was about $1100 and included their fee, use of the location, chairs covered with cloth and ribbons, simple decor, a decorated arch, the ceremony itself and a champagne toast for 30 persons. Ajua Weddings is another organizer that has access to lots of private beaches and they are good about emailing. Their quote was a bit steep for my budget. good luck!
  13. Quote: Originally Posted by aeroo Yes, the price includes the complete set up of dance floor, lights, stereo system, tiki torches, EVERYTHING. You've got a wireless mic too, for speeches. Walter is great at getting back to you. Just be patient because May is one of their busiest months. There are pretty much weddings every day. Good luck! REALLY That's excellent! Does anyone know what the food might be like with that set price option?? I still have not heard from Zulma either and it's been 2 weeks, well 2 emails in two weeks...must be busy season!
  14. Hello! Thanks for your input everyone! The files that AEROO posted are identical to what I was sent by Walter who is in charge of group events and receptions at The Royal. He EXCELLENT at responding to emails (he's been responding the next day or same day), while Zulma's timing leaves a little to be desired as I still have not heard back from her. I did email Zulma again about having my ceremony on the beach. While I would have been happy with the wedding packages on the webiste last year, when I thought that getting married wouldn't be such a big issue (nor would my partner EVER ask me), I certainly don't want any of those now. I want customization! Does anyone have any information regarding a (non-mayan) ceremony on their beach? I was considering the private beach in Playacar Phase I, but having it at the hotel (or at least in town) would save me the cost of have to rent vans for 30-40 people. I read that maybe it wouldn't be so private, but having specific music is important to me -- not so hot on mariachis or violins or peruvian flutes orchestrating tht big day.... Any info or opinions would be very appreciated while I wait for Zulma to get back to me. Oh, and for the beach reception, $70 (non-resort residents), $60 (Gran Porto residents) and $50 (Royal residents) per person will get you the following: -PRIVATE AREA ( BEACH, GARDEN, BALLROOM) -SPECIAL SET UP WITH WHITE TABLE CLOTHES, COVER CHAIRS AND RIBBONS, CANDLES ON THE TABLES -TICKY TORCHES AND LIGHTS UNDER THE TABLES IN CASE OF BEACH RECEPTIONS -DECORATIONS ( WITH PLANTS AND BALLOONS IF REQUIRED ) -SPECIAL DELUXE 4 COURSES MENU ( MENU CHOSEN WILL BE THE SAME FOR ALL GUESTS, THE HOTEL ADMITS MAX. 3 EXCEPTIONS FOR VEGETARIANS AND PEOPLE WITH FOOD ALLERGIES ) -INTERNATIONAL OPEN BAR ( PREMIUM BRANDS LICORS, BEERS, SODAS, JUICES, COCKTAILS, HOUSE WINES ) -WAITER SERVICE -SPECIAL BAR SET AT LOCATION -TAXES AND SERVICE Sounds lovely to me!
  15. Hmmm. That's actually quite good! The wedding package they have on their website (The Classic) or any of them to be honest is no where near to what we want. Are those packages customizable? thanks!
