Bringing own alcohol - corkage fee

Recommended Posts

Did anyone bring their own alcohol to their wedding in Cancun? There are several hotels that will allow us to bring our own alcohol and pay a corkage fee. We've calculated that this will probably save us several thousand dollars.

Have any of you done this? If so, where did you get the alcohol? (Costco?? Wal-Mart??) How did you determine how much you should purchase? If there were leftovers, what did you do with it?

Thanks in advance!

My Cancun wedding isn't until May 10 but I am also doing a corkage fee. I am purchasing all the liquor from La Europea LA EUROPEA They have everything that you would need and the prices are good. Although we are just guessing on the amount to buy, we are planning on buying 30 bottles and we are expecting about 100 people.

Thanks! Someone said somewhere that if you don't open the bottle that Wal-Mart lets you return ithuh.gif Have you heard that? I'd rather have too much alcohol than run out, so I was thinking if we had any left, we could just tip the vendors with it. But if we could return it, that would be better!

Let me know how this works out for you. I'm worried that it may end up being more of a pain than it's worth. Keep me posted! Thanks!!

hi! i know that you can buy alcohol at costco and return it if it is not opened...but you cannot return wine that has been cooled (white wine) because the label comes off when wet. this way if you buy too much it is not a problem. they have pretty much the same selection as the states for wine and alcohol choices. we are going to bring in wine and having an open bar for mixed drinks. check and see about the mixers (coke, soda, et.) because you can bring these in too.

Hi Ladies:

I'm wondering if anyone has purchased champagne at Wal-Mart, Costco, or somewhere else in the RM.

The house champagne at our hotel is very modest (read: icky), and I want something better to toast my marriage with.

And if you did, where did you buy it, what kind did you buy, and how did prices compare to home?

Thanks!!!

Hey girls, this is a GREAT topic to bring up. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else to buy wine in RM than walmart? I'm not a wine drinker, but my family and my Fi family are. FI family actually does wine tasting all over the world, and actually hold wine tastings for Molly Dooker in the US and we have a couple guests who are actual alcohol connoisseur's and god forbid they ever buy wine from Walmart. (They have to have extra home insurance for the $100,000's of dollars of alcohol in their basement.) I'm trying to keep to a minimum w/ what I bring w/ us due to excess baggage fees, so we'll need some fabulous wine down there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
