sending out invitations...how early?

Recommended Posts

I have a question about STD cards and invitations. We have about 40-50 people we want to invite to our DW but at the same time want people to know we are engaged and getting married and when we get back from the DW we are having a reception. I am trying to think of how you tactually do that. What I have thought is send out a STD card with "we are getting married in Mexico on such a such date with a VT Reception when we get back - more information to come!" and then send out invitations with specific details to those we want to come to the DW and general reception invitiations to those we'd want to have come to the reception. I don't know if I am just making this harder than it needs to be but at the same time I don't want to hurt feelings by having to tell someone we hadn't planned on them coming and we can't afford it.

I did something similar...except we skipped the STDs altogether (saved time and money...with a much smaller guest list than a traditional wedding, most of our friends and family knew what we were planning anyway...so the save the dates just seemed kind of pointless). We were engaged in November, we finalized wedding plans by first week in January, I sent out invitations and travel information 2nd week of January, with a reply by date end of March, and wedding will be July 31st. Maybe a little early, but I read invites/information should be sent out earlier than normal...5-6 months ahead of time at least. I wasn't sure exactly about RSVP date, but figured by then most people would know, and I will be anxious to start finalizing things, OOT bags, and all those other fun details!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

FI and I decided to skip STDs and just send out the invitations really early. We're not sure exactly when, but it'll probably be no later than 10 months in advance. Also (and you guys are going to think I'm crazy) I'm not using a TA. I'm doing it all that on my own (I love this kind of stuff), so I want to make sure everything is set way ahead of time. Plus we're going the villa route and those need to be reserved really far in advance. I hope this makes sense!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
